  1. I managed a 100 in BCF vouchers. Would make a decent dent to a nice rock black fish rod.

I also need to switch out my braid for some mono as I'm tired of getting busted off on the rocks.

    anyone has some mono recommendations?

  2. Hi Raiders,

I've been told by many to start keeping a diary of moon, tide, wind and swell etc after a fish. Just wondering if it's possible to back check tides, swell, wind.. etc. Places like seabreeze and willy weather etc only go back a day or so.

    cheers!

  3. I will pretty much only be working a few days a week (when I am needed to supervise students in a lab if someone else is sick) and on Saturdays (I know, it sucks, but I tutor chemistry on saturdays to fund my fishing addiction)

So! Apart from that, who is free for a fish? :P

  4. Hey Raiders,

For the past 4 years I have been working hard on my PhD thesis on the development of new medications for mental disorders. I honestly could not have dealt with the frustrations and headaches that come with research and writing a 340 page document, formatting it and finally publishing if it hadn't been for Fishraider.

80 000 words later and I am less than 2 days away from freedom! Although I have not been able to wet a line as often as I would have liked, I have managed to check out these forums a couple times a week which has kept me sane in knowing that there are plenty of fish out there to be caught!

Special thanks to Royce (Luderick -Angler) who taught me the dark arts over the past year. I have been absent from his weekend fishing trips for the past few months but it helped me through the weeks when I was heading out every Sunday.

    So Thank you all!

I'll be fishing a fair bit over the next few weeks!

  5. I hesitantly left a message regarding some undersized fish getting kept around the cronulla area not expecting much.

When I rechecked my phone 30 minutes later I had 3 missed calls from Stuart, a fisheries officer.

Upon returning his call, a guy who just showed up where I was fishing picked up his phone, asked where the culprits were!

It was his day off as well! He didn't have his badge on him so couldn't do much but mentioned he would be back in the weeks to come!

Just wanted to say that our reporting of illegal fishing matters, and are taken very seriously.

So if you ever doubt whether or not anything will happen, well they do!

  6. It's not really a matter of which soft plastic. Most sp fisho's will use a range.

I would probably try a shad in two different colours, and a squidgy wriggler, maybe a fish shaped sp in a couple of natural looking colours.

    Use a heavier jighead.

Let it sink, just wait, there isn't anything wrong with it sitting at the bottom for 2 minutes but there is something wrong if it never gets to the bottom so my advice is just open the bail arm and wait for an excessive amount of time.

Then start your retrieve, couple of flicks take up the slack wait 45-60s... Couple of flicks take up the slack wait etc etc...

This being said... I've never caught a fish on soft plastics so everything I've said could be terrible advice.

    :)

  7. Hi,

First time poster, and sadly no beginners luck... Went down to Gunnamatta Bay first for a fish around 10:30 on Thursday night. Cold, windy and no bites... Decided to relocated to Wally's Wharf afterwards. Got there to see 2 other guys pull in 4 nice squid but i got nothing :(

I was wondering where are some good land-based fishing spots around this time of year in the area, and what to fish for?

    Cheers

Really depends what you are looking for.

Down south, most of the hacking holds bream and flatties, they are just harder to target.

My advice would be to have a search of the forums around here, find a place that looks good with the wind behind you. Fish a few hours each side of high tide, preferably around dawn or dusk.

Don't underestimate the importance of Burley. If you burly hard, it's rare that you would go without a fish.
