  1. Yep, on Pittwater Rd. Anyone know how the lake is fishing at the moment? Might head down there early next week
  2. Bad luck on the flathead. Sounds like a nice day out though!
  3. Had a quick browse through this forum and found this: http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=38134&st=0&p=286755&hl=+eastern%20+frogfish&fromsearch=1entry286755 Looks to be the same
  4. Burleyed with bread and pellets for them, but couldn't get any. Saw others trying for them too, but not much luck either.
  5. My friend caught this at Balmoral jetty. Looked like a cross between a leather jacket and a puffer fish and it was rock hard to touch. Any ideas? Thanks
  6. I've only got a pair of bathroom scales so I had to make do with that. It gave me an estimate of 3.5-4kg after bleeding, before gutting. I hear they don't taste very good but given it was my first, I decided to keep it anyway. Thinking about how I should cook it up for dinner . I used 10lb mono main line with a 6lb fluoro leader. How did you go today?
  7. I've only just got into fishing. Been going on and off for about 6 months and I've only caught two legal fish in my life, the largest being a 30cm whiting. Arrived at around 10am. It was completely dead for about 4 hours except for an octopus which we lost. After high tide things started to liven up a little. Something kept nibbling and stealing my bait so I downsized to a size 10 hook. Chucked my line out in front of the jetty and instantly hooked onto a small cuttlefish. Never caught one before, so I was very pleased! The next hour saw a few undersized bream and snapper being caught. Then something had a go at my bait. I thought it was another undersized bream at first until it started taking out some line, so I thought maybe a legal bream. I've never caught a legal bream either so I was pretty stoked! Today was the first day I decided to teach myself how to use my drag. I normally just fish with it off. I managed to bring it closer to the jetty and I saw it was MUCH bigger than I anticipated . I got it to the surface and we borrowed a net from a fellow fisho at the jetty. Had a few nervous moments with the fish going around the jetty and the line getting tangled on the pylons. Had the drag too soft and I was wondering why it wouldn't come in further . Managed to get it into the net and I was over the moon! Turned out to be a 66cm salmon! Caught on a size 10 hook with a peeled prawn by a guy with no idea how to fight a fish. Would you believe it. I'll take this as a learning experience . That smile will take a long time to wipe away
  8. Well, keep in mind that most of what he says is for the camera. And personally, i do find his antics pretty comical
  9. A few years ago we went up to Long Reef for a biology excursion and our task was to catch something in the rock pools and write about it. One group found a blue ringed octopus in their pool and the demonstrator caught it for them with nothing more than his bare hands and a little plastic scoop. Brave.
  10. Wow! Biggest mullet I've seen is about 30cm. Might head down to Narrabeen Lake at the end of this week. Try my luck there in front of the caravan park. One last question, what's the best way to rig a worm onto a hook? And do i need to burley?
  11. I'm using bait for my fishing. I normally use a size 4 long shank baitholder for all my fishing Is there a particular way i should retrieve my bait, or just let it sit there? Also, is the jetty at Bobbin head a decent spot? Thanks
  12. I've been fishing on and off for about 6 months now and i haven't had much luck at all. I've only caught 2 legal whiting at Narrabeen lake in the summer and nothing else worth mentioning besides that (was bloody stoked when i caught them though!) I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on a good species to target for a beginner and how I'd go about catching them. What bait I'd use, rigs, tides, times etc. Also any good spots to fish? I live up in the north of Sydney, near Chatswood. My usual spots are Narrabeen lake, Bobbin head and Balmoral beach. I'm not quite sure what my rod + reel are, but they're made by Shakespeare, and heavier than a bream combo. I normally use 10 pound mono main line and 6 pound fluoro leader. Any help is appreciated to help me catch a bit more consistently Thanks!
  13. Hi everyone, I'll start off by saying i used to go fishing with my dad once or twice a year when he had a day off work. I loved every moment of it, but we never really geared up very seriously so we only ever caught undersized or more commonly, nothing at all! I'm a little older now and ive decided it'd be nice to start fishing more seriously and take it up as a hobby. I plan to get started by fishing narrabeen lake because im familiar with the area. And with this, i have a thousand questions All of my questions below apply to narrabeen lake. My dad taught me to tie a sinker directly to the main line and a hook further down. A bit of trolling through the boards has told me that people seem to tie leaders and all sorts of things. What kind of rig should i tie? And what hook and sinker size should i be using? What time is best to fish, and do tides apply to the lake? Further, what bait should i be using (my dad and i normally cut up live beach and blood worms - seems to catch us small bream) and where should i be aiming when i cast? A few of these have already been answered in the narrabeen lake article on here, but wanted to know what everyone else thought too. Thanks in advance
