  1. There is a tackle shop on the highway just south of Palm Cove, before the shopping center. They have a heap of pamphlets for charters & should be able to tell you who is good.
  2. No such rule in some states about it being mandatory to have life jackets on. Eg in Qld it depends on how big your boat is & how old you are. I also don't reckon there is such a thing as a wave pattern. When crossing bars you simply have to read the water in front of you. You are sort of right Alphabet, he went right when there big sets building. About 20 seconds after he went over, there was a lull where he could have got out easily.
  3. 100g is way to big for the bonnies. 35g or even a 25g are the go for them. How big were the kingies? Might have been worth down sizing your lure & then throwing a live bonnie down & hang on...hehe
  4. cordless drill with a masonary bit will do it easily. You probably wouldn't even need the hammer function.
  5. I have 2 rule 500gph pumps & they prime themselves, but it can 10 seconds or though. The pumps are through transom or do you have a pickup through the transom to a hose then to the pump?

    70hp Help!

Good move. I can remember when I pulled my 70hp apart we were impressed with how clean it actually was. Put it down to 2 things. The first was how often it was used. On average at least once per week. The 2nd on how long it was flushed. Putting it on the muffs was the first thing we did when we got home, we unpacked the boat while it was flushing. Usually at least 5 minutes or so. You need to allow the motor to get to operating temperature when flushing for best results. Hope all goes well with your repair.
  7. You shouldn't have a problem with your setup as long as the pump and intake is below the waterline Sounds like a pump problem. What brand of pumps you using?
  8. Humminbird haven't introduced the Geo referencing lock as yet. I believe Lowrance has though. If you do get one from the states, it will only have imperial measurements. Metric won't be an option.
  9. The real job will start in a few weeks as the clean up continue and then the rebuilding begins. With 75% of the state affected it leaves a lot of people, most of the tradesmen out of action to help with the rebuilding. many of us will find ourselves away from our family while we rebuild this great state. Words I thought I'd never be saying having grown up in western Sydney. Queensland is gods country and it will be rebuilt better than ever. As of now, we are watching tropical lows and cyclones well off the coast. We are going to be lucky to be not hit by one of these in the next 4 weeks I reckon. On the Goldy we got away relatively unscathed, I don't feel this will be the case over the coming weeks...... but gees I hope I am wrong.
  10. I'm lazy & only do them when they are needed. Not as a matter of recourse. Could be up to half a dozen trips before I need to retie one cause the leader is too short. I use the "No Name" knot. I think the knots hold up well.

    70hp Help!

I rebuilt a 70HP yammie a few years ago from a catastrophic failure of the crank bearings. Thing was just as good as new when finished. I'd rebuild it & get rid of the oil injection while your at it
