  1. The motor did slow dramatically so I killed it and there was steam smoke/steam coming out of the top cover. I pulled it out of the water to check for a bag or something around the prop but was ok. The motor hadn't been used since march. could it have been a blocked thermostat?
  2. Hi all, I decided to take a run up the river on sunday morning cause hadn't been out in a while. Anyway after about 15 minute boat ride at about 2/3 throttle my nearly new Johnson 15hp outboard decided to get hot. I let it cool donw and dropped a line. I started it back up to move during the drift and it would not idle. Kept fishing for a while and when I decided to move spots the motor just died about 5 minutes later and a bit of steam coming out of the engine cover. Obviously it was hot. Got the boat back to the ramp and pulled teh cover off the engine and the head had changed colour and the spark plugs were melted. Any ideas? I put 400ml of oil in a 20l tank?? Motor did have water coming out the back of it so was being cooled. Motor would maybe have 20 hours on it max. Someone help !!! Cheers Ben
  3. got my images but no idea how to put them on. anyone help?
  4. I went up a fair way was fishing near mangroves. Gulp is a berkely soft plastic, looks like a little worm or grub. I tried a berkley power mintow in a yellow colour but didnt get anything with them. Funny thing was i didnt catch anything else but Flatties with the gulp. My mate that was with me got a nice size flounder with a gulp as well.
  5. Hi all, Put the boat in at Oatley around 6.00am and headed around to woronora river. It was to be my fisr day using soft plastics. Went and bought a new rod, reel, braid and some plastics on saturday. Headed up the river a little bit. Started drifting along and was using a green Berkely Gulp. Had a few nibbles then bang I got a hit and had my first fish on Sp's. Was a small flathead so threw him back. Stayed there for a few hours after the tide change and ended up getting 6 keeper flatheads biggest being 45cm and the rest being around the 35 mark. Fish went off the bite so headed around and tried at Oatley point but no luck there so called it a day. All I can say is I dont think ill be going back to baits for a while. Was so much fun using Sp's. Im at work at the moment so ill post the pics when I get home.....
  6. oh well guys just got back from a few hours on the water. Got out around 8am and headed around from oatley to como bridge. drifted for a while and got a small taylor, few small bream, squire and a ray of some sort. headeed right up next to the bridge and still didnt get much. i latched onto a few blue swimmer crabs but only managed to net one and i have a pic but dont now how to attach it. all in all pretty quiet day but it was good to be on the water. will try and work out how to put the pic up.
  7. Hi guys just wanted to ask a few questions. Im going out in the morning and will be putting the boat in at Oatley. Was going to head around the river and fish under como bridge and maybe up river towards woronora.... my bait will be fresh prawns and i do not have my depth sounder working yet. Any tips of where i should try? Going to hit the water around 8am or so. Any tips would be great Happy fishing over the easter break guys.
  8. Well boys went out yesterday for a few hours in the morning and decided to try the 3 channel mark poles that are close together. Anchored up about 30m from them and started a burley trail with chook pellets. tried for a while with weight on the line but had nothing not even a touch. changed to another rig using light weight and started getting a few small squire and bream. was starting to get a little bored and then BANG i was on to something that had some more weight, brought it up and was a nice flathead about 40cm, was pretty happy as have never got a flatty in the bay before. Decided to hang around for a while and then my father in law hooked something up, at first he thought it was a bream but once again was a nice flatty measuring 47cm. We were pretty happy at this stage but the bite's went off so decided to make a move. tried 3 other spots and got nothing but little stuff. I did hook up a big blue swimmer crab and got it to the surface and just as i put the net under it, it let go of the hook and sunk to the bottom dam could of had a seafood platter for dinner. Anyway was still a good day and was happy to catch something with a bit of size. Will try again this weekend hopefully, Thanks for the tips guys.....
  9. Thanks guys didnt get a chance to get out on the weekend so will have to wait till next weekend.

  12. Hi guys, New to the forum as you can see this is my first post. Just really started to do a bit of fishing since me and my dad got a new outboard. I live in Oatley and have been putting the tinnie in there and making my way out the river towards the bay. Over the last few weekends i have been fishing just off the channel markers in the mouth of the river. I have caught a few decent bream around the 30cm mark but other than 4 or 5 of these most stuff is just small squire's. i dont really want to go to far across the bay until im a bit more confident with the boat and tackle. I have tried the drift there with fresh prawns but still yet to see a flathead. So my question to all you seasoned veterans is. Is there any tricks or places in this area (off the point near georges river s.c) to help me catch some better fish? Any tips for bait or rig setups i should try. Look forward to your reply's... ben
