  1. exactly right you can sit there and explain the logical and right way to do things which is what most people do, but some people are just too arrogant to admit theyre wrong. thats why i just laughed it off which i know made him burn (made a note of his license plate just incase he tried to do anything to my car while i was gone). Had the fish made a run in the opposite direction i would have lost the rod as it wasnt in a holder! luckily line went under the boat back against it i just heard the butt kicking against the bucket and grabbed it. Will hopefully get out earlier this coming sunday give it another go, this time armed with squid jigs!
  2. Woke up and decided to get a few hours in on the bay in search of something to take home after a few hopeless jewhunting nights at cc bridge! was planning on hitting the water around 6ish, ended up gettin there about 10ish haha oh well. first tried off the 3rd runway for bout 40 minutes with no luck, even with 6 or so boats anchoring up within casting distance didnt see any catches, thought i'd give the molly pt boat club a miss and headed to the oil wharf i think it was, nothing biting, changed strategy and floated out a squid strip on a jig head for a bit of weight n forgot about it, 10 minutes later it goes off and the damn drag was too high fish snapped the line, rigged up another jighead, another squid strip and 20 seconds later i was on again, after a few runs up came my first kingy n thankgod it was a keeper just, had been looking forward to having some fresh sashimi for a long time so i was stoked. nothing after that. Big thankyou to the guy who gave me his leftover squid he had caught in the morning while at the ramp couldnt have done it without you, gotta learn how to do this thats next on my list! bit of a letdown was how some people behave at the ramp, as i was reversing my 4wd and setting the boat in another bloke pulls in at the pontoon in his tinnie. im by myself so walk the boat off the trailer and down the pontoon, park my car, then come back a minute later and see him with his boat behind mine up my arse sayin you couldnt wait for me to get my boat out like he was there first? even though i had my trailer in the water while he was stil coming in...
  3. just lost my anchor at molly pt last night, must be a goldmine down there when it comes to anchors and chain!
  4. a popular electronic online auction site comes to mind... was actually looking at crab nets on it the other day few to choose from
  5. thanks Trung, im never in the water before 4pm gotta get out earlier, its amazing how people are like sheep when they get to that place. there will be like 10 boats all anchored up in 1 small patch, then i go there decide to anchor up a little away from them to fish in peace, withing 10 minutes at least one of them thinks Oh he must know a better spot, and then before you know it your swamped! God help you if they actually see you hooking up!!!

    Beach fishing

Always good to have a look from higher ground if you can and try and spot the gutters etc, this is where the fish normally like to cruise from experience. We used to fish Cronulla at sunset, hightide or just before always got us the best catch, always used to cast just where the surf starts from the ocean, using a patternoster rig and big pyramid sinker on the bottom, not only to keep it down in the surf, but also heavy enough to be able to cast over the waves into the sweetspot. try adding a bit of red electrical wire tubing just before your long shank hooks this used to give me crazy luck compared to the other guys i fished with! Size of your gear really depends on how strong the surf and current is, make sure its up to standard as we used to cath a few jewies as well. and do yourself a favour and learn how to catch beachworms, not only were they the best bait hooking us 8 to 1 i'd say compared to others there, but they are alot of fun to catch as well.
  8. haha gotta love the fog yesterday morning! I think im gonna have to start waking up and heading down early instead of the arvo, i was there in the arvo for nothing! and yes, took my mother out with me and she didnt wanna stop fishing for yakkas haha.
  9. great effort mate, mind me asking what time it was you were hooking up? I went out but in the evening about 6pm, got some yakkas even a slimy, had em on the surface and on the floor but nothing taking em, didnt hang around too long though as the wind was starting to pick up. I was catching the yakkas near another boat and anchored up at molly near him, i was the one talkin to ya and using a pepsi bottle as a make-do float! wanna see if you had any luck after i left
  10. haha, i was too busy making sure i wasnt gonna hit any other boats as the tide changed and we all swung around, damn it gets crowded! what time you hook on if you dont mind me asking? yea if theres one thing great about fishing that bridge its how relaxing it is i was there till the morning.
  11. May as well introduce myself, my names Ali, 23 yo., White Quintrex Estuary Angler 4.1 Have been fishing for over 13 years now, started off at cooks river, then got into the drummrs and blackfish, then learnt how to catch beach worms and started fishing kurnell and Cronulla, at one stage we were catching 1kg whiting off cronulla one after the other, these looked like fish on roids. Then me and the old man bought a boat, just a 4.1 quintrex but perfect for the bay, i remember when we usd to go out years ago we would set anchor usually off 3rd runway or the drums and there would always be something biting withing 2 minutes. Sorry to say he passed away 3 years ago and i hadn't taken our boat out since. after gettin her serviced reg'd and ready i've been trying my luck under sylvania bridge and around the bay for the past week, managed one jewie so far, may try the runway again one night soon, or molly point for some kingy action! And a big thankyou to the guy who helped me out at the ramp on loop rd if your on here, i usually beach the boat while i park the car, at low tide the sand turns into mud that you will sink a foot under as we both learnt the hard way haha!
  12. i must have driven past you i was there bout 8 in the morning after collecting some yakkas from near the tuggies, a crazy amount of boats parked up on that corner i didnt bother to stop my mistake, gotta get in on this kingy action! quick question, when your there do you anchor up close to the wall or stay out towards the markers? and were you letting the yakkas down to the bottom? edit/ just saw the 15.1.11 date, still everytime i go past at least 5 boats near each other there.
  13. some great info here, last few nights ive been targeting jewies, have had 2 rods out one with a yakka the other squid strip, using about a 30/40lb trace with 5/0 hook on the strip and double snell for the yakka. funnily enough the one time i did land a 60cm specimen the other night, it was on another light rod with 10lb line that i threw out with a 4/0 and squid strip just for the fun of it. seems lighter tackle works best. fish was caught an hour after full tide at night. have been told low tide is best, but that may be for the bridge i was targeting.
  14. at least someone had a bit of luck hehe, yea i was just behind(botany bay side) the 3rd pilon from the sansouci side. I caught the other one on squid strips, tried yakkas and squid strips saturday night no luck. Im thinking my gear may be too heavy, as i caught the eel and the jewie on a light rod i had setup for catching live bait that i just put a 4/0 and squid strip on.
  15. Hey Guys, found the site while trying to find some recent reviews on the bay, a grea resource indeed! Been trying to land the elusive jewfish under the captain cook bridge for 3 nights now. after hooking an eel, hooked up soon after to find a 60cm jewie. this was on the runout tide. that was thursday night, had another crack friday night until bout 1am, only another eel, then pulled an all nighter saturday night but nothing. I guess the only consolation was there would have been at least 6 boats each night and i did not see anyone land or hook any fish other than the one i caught for the 3 nights. Gave up on the bridge and headed to the bay soon after sunrise this morning, first stocked up on a few yakkas at mol. point, cruised past the 10 or so boats already lined up, didnt look like there was any action so headed out near little bay trolling a livie but nothing. bit of drifting but no luck. came back in and set anchor at the drums, again no luck. I dont know if it just wasnt my week!
