  1. If you don't want to spend more than $50, you could get just about any mono' line for that much. If you want braid that's pretty long & cheap, you can get 250m of Sufix Matrix Pro Braid for $50 or go on eBay (but be careful there, lots of knock-offs & factory seconds). I see you're from Liverpool, the tackle store there just closed down. The Compleat Angler at Auburn (just a lil' pass Fairfield) is a good tackle store close to you that has the Sufix Matrix Pro Braid. I've tried alot of mono' lines & if you're going to go for mono' you could save yourself time & money & buy Mustad Thor line from ***** cheap. I use the Thor line on one of my spools & it's great. The only other mono' I liked, was the Berkley Trilene Sensation which you get from *****.
  2. I liked the rod alot & have regretted selling mine eversince. Only sold it because I was big into finesse fishing at the time. If it's the rod I would snatch it up, it's one of Shimano's nicest rods they have ever made (my opinion). If it's the reel, Daiwa have a nice Sealine range that varies in prices etc that I would get instead. I also sold a vintage Shimano Bullwhip rod that I am trying to find again... sometimes you just got to hang on to those classic beauties. They are far & few.
  3. Great report crystalliser, well done. I use the extact same SP as you, it's my go to one but I mostly only catch flatheads with it. I also use a pink smilin' jack but mostly catch tailors on those. Probably because the location where I using them. Shame the flatheads don't put up much of a fight, the majority of my one's only did a dash or two than gave up. Nice tubby looking luderick you've got there.
  4. Right there in that picture is the best blackfish/luderick spot (My opinion). It's the bend near the mouth of The Entrance. If you fish there, note there is a HUGE current! A favourite landbase spot of mine up that way is the 3rd Jetty at Long Jetty just around the corner from The Entrance. Here is a picture of it I took: P.S. Here is the catfish I caught not too long ago. It's 66cm & about 3Kg.
  5. My favourite bream lure is the Halco Scorpion 35 Sneaky (Suspending). That's the lil' one with the straight bib that Bushy designed. The chrome gold with orange back pattern, is the most potent one for bream. If you manage to find it in *****, which I have never managed to since it's always sold out, it's under $8 so it's a good deal, at tackle stores most sell it for $12.
  6. That's the best flattie I have seen in a very, very, very, very, very, very long time. Top stuff!
  7. Another fishing report from you guys with another unit like that & people may very well be calling you the JewKings whether you like it or not. hehe That's GOLD!
  8. First! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! That was a really well written report that I enjoyed reading alot. Thanks for posting it. Well done on the catch, it's extra special when you land something like that when you're landbased plus using lures. You landed it on light gear too which is the icing on the cake. It's a Kodak & Mastercard (priceless) moment all rolled up into one. I hope you keep landing them.
  9. I find the Maxima line has a really thick line diameter compared to others & it has that silky kind of a coat that slips on the spool now & again causing minor problems. The Penn line, has great knot strength but after extensive use gets knicks in the line & you have to chop it off. The nylon line that I have loved, is the Berkley Trilene Sensation line, you will feel the difference right away & it's worth the extra dollars buying. You can get it from Big. W On my old eggbeater I was using the Mustad Thor line from K-mart which I liked alot, I liked that more than the Penn line. Any Berkley mono line is pretty good, so I would go for that name. I am thinking of buying a spool of the Berkley Iron Silk line, has anybody tried that?
  10. 45 fish! You won't need a gym membership if you keep catching that many, it'll be all the workout you need.
  11. That was a really enjoyable post to read. It's great to catch a fish the first time fishing, well done.
  12. Now that's what I call a first post, HOT DAMN! Anymore fishing reports like that & you will have to start your own fan club here!
  13. Top session, well done! You'll have the nicest seafood smorgasbord this Easter!
  14. femalefisho I like reading Jim's reports on the other site. You guys do so well & it's really impressive that you catch so many quality fish. Well done! Your first snapper rocks! My first snapper was only a juvenile snapper.
  15. That's awesome! You must've had a suuuuuuper ball of a time trying to land it on 4Lb mono.
  16. Thanks for the reviews guys! I might go & buy it now, I'll be using it to "try" & can jewfish from rivers. The line looked a lil' too white & not see-through so in the brown water being 30Lb I thought maybe the fish could see it, since 30Lb doesn't have that small of a line diameter. Most places sell 20-100lb leader for $30 & up for only around 25yards, that Penn leader is only around $20 (in K-mart) & you get 100 metres of it. Seems a lil' too spoiling so I needed to ask.
  17. I was in K-mart yesterday & seen how they mainly only sold Penn 10X Leader, leaders. You get quite alot of line for a cheap price. The thing I was curious about was why it wasn't see-through like most leaders, it has a white look that doesn't seem very well hidden in water like leaders are suppose to be, maybe it's just me thinking silly. Thought I'd ask if anybody uses this leader & how effective it is? Because it sure is great value for money.
  18. Top session! The old war horse of a bream finally met it's match. P.S. What were you using for bait?
  19. Never hold your farts in. They travel up your spine, into your brain, and that's where you get shitty ideas from!
  20. Also what's the best Gulp! 6" Sandworm colour? There only seems to be four of them.
  21. Thanks for the help. Those Gulp! sandworms may just be what I was looking for. I've been wanting to find a SP where I could use like I would bait soaking. Sometimes I like taking a break after flicking for 2 hours & would like something in the water while I have lunch or just rest. Plus most my friends are old school fishos & they buy those frozen prawns from the service station & when they run out of them they always whine & want to leave, I could give them some of the worms to use when they run out., so they bait supply doesn't determine the fishing hours I wonder how those simulate baits are, the ones that come in the bag & look like lil' fish bits like beef jerky...
  22. You're a great help mottyman Just wanted to ask, do you have to downsize your hooks to use the salt worms effectively or can you use the same jig heads as you would with minnows & grubs, I use Gamakatsu Round 25 Jig Heads Size 1 hook, 1/16oz weight, for 2-3" grubs & minnows would this jighead be too big for the worms? The Gamakatsu size one hook is the same size as a Mustad size two hook or those who know Squidgy's a size 2 Squidgy jighead. I've only been catching flatheads with SP's in the Georges, the sand worms might broaden the species list for me.
  23. Having the free spool for live-bait on the baitrunners, would that outscore overhead & spinning reels etc for catches? I've always been curious with baitrunners & wanted to know if any of you Angler's swear by them, can't do without them etc. & why that is? I am thinking of getting one myself. It'll be nice if Shimano made newer versions that weren't so bulky & I don't mean those carp ones they have out in Europe.
  24. The Biomaster is released for the Japanese market. It's the model above the Ultegra & below the Sensilite. Similar to the Stradic. The new 2006 model Biomaster are great, they are lighter & look like the older Stella's. You are best importing them using eBay, which is also about the only place you can read the specs in english. I believe they have a 4kg drug which is enough unless you're chasing pelagic species like Kingfish. You might get spooled by a 10Kg Kingfish with that sissy drag. They cost around the same price as a Stradic though don't come with a spare spool, so you may be better off just buying a Stradic since you will get a warranty etc. plus if you needs parts you don't need to speak Japanese in order to get them. Go on eBay (not the local one) & use the search feature. There are always a few on there.
  25. Those are really small hooks for such a big fish... except for the size one baitholder which was size I thought carp fishos would be using. I will use my luderick/blackfish hooks & corn bits. Are the sweet corn cobs you buy in a can to use with salads okay? Or carps don't have a sweet tooth. Thanks for the help!
