  1. Anyone have any luck with jewies at hexham on hunter river, possibly around the bridge or else where on the hunter near hexham?
  2. caught 2 salmon. 1 of them was 60cm, which is a good size and i thought it was a record between me and a mate, but we sized up his and his was 72cm. However my 60cm was a fat one. Put on a great show too, jumping out of the water about 4-5 times. Seems that the tailor have moved on from stocko beach, all i get now is salmon. After it slowed down we planned to head back, but on the way back while driving high on the dunes we noticed a massive flock of birds (1000s) all about 150m offshore. We cast out hoping to catch any ones that strayed close to the beach but got nothing.
  3. Whats the best line for the beach, i find that a strong abrasive mono line is way to thick for casting and sags because of its weight and is moved too much by the waves. I was thinking a 30lb braided, but i heard the sand could break the line because of poor abrasion?
  4. yeh just ganged pillies, never let me down before. I think im gonna try that, cut a fillet off a salmon and put it back in.

    Harbour Jew

    what rig were you using?
  6. Me and 3 other mates went fishing early saturday morning on stockton beach. There was a current running to the north all the way up the beach and most of the surf was huge and coming from the left and right. I was running a 30lb abrasive line on a 6000 size reel so i didnt have much line left on my reel and the line because of its thickness was getting smashed by the waves. Despite that 2 mates had pulled in 2 salmon already and then i was on with something big, i suspected a big salmon or a massive taylor, it pulled my rod hard, more then anything else i had but then all of a sudden i lost the bastard. Another mate right after that pulled in a school jew I ended up changing my reel with another 600 size with 15lb line and 30lb leader and casts were much further and easier in the waves, but by that time the fish were gone and i got nothing. Funny enough, no one caugh any taylor in the end it was 4 salmon and 1 jew, usually its taylor every hook up with the odd salmon. I was very surprised about the jew.
  7. wow im placed 11th on that ladder... 904 points, all guesses.
  8. Im in the newcastle area, so im not sure where to catch them. I've seen a couple under the bridge at stockton, but im not sure if i want to eat anything from the harbour in newcastle either.
  9. I went Saturday night too with full moon, under the bridge stockton side, no bites either. My mate went to stockton 3am saturday morning up near the signa and landed fair few tailor. I dont know how you caught a flatty off stockton, i've never caught one yet, good job.
  10. I wanna start catching some crabs with crab nets/cage. What kind of cage/net do i need? Further what kind of bait? Just need some general tips overall. Cheers.
  11. Yeh with the new port stephens ban in fishing .. it could be a problem.
  12. What species of fish (NSW area) are most abundant in winder (mostly beach fishing)?
  13. The tailor is great to eat.. The Australian samlon sucks, but i ate it anyway. Cut all the red meat out of the salmon (ended up being hardly nothing) cooked it in the oven with a bit of salt, garlic and lemon.. then a bit of grounded black pepper.
  14. I was using 20lb with a 60lb 50cm steel trace.. using size 5 and a 2ize 4 sinker. My mate was using 35lb line with 35lb trace same sinkers and got far better action. think the steel trace was a giveaway.
  15. Went out to stockton early morning session, first line in pulled in a massive salmon. Changed positions after nothing for a while. Then we went next to the signa (right side) and every line we through in we caught fish. The only thing that stopped us was that we ran out of bait. I've been reading some fishing books in relation to beach fishing and if it wasnt for the info i got out of it i would of never caught the fish. I was always looking for flat calm places on the beach when i really want to look for white wash foam. Also finding gutters on the beach looking at the water coming in and water going out. Works like a charm. Beach fishing is awsome. I swear though me and my mate look like idiots. We dont catch too many fish, so when we get bites we go nuts trying to bring the bastards in. Get so wet from the water (frolicking through the waves like idiots) we strip down to T-shrits and undies. People drive past and must think WTF.
