  1. I've heard of that Braid slipping thing but have not experienced it myself, all my braided reels are spooled directly onto the spool with no backing so fingers crossed that it doesn't happen because re-spooling is a pain in the backside.

Don't think i will have trouble with the 2500 slipping unless i hook onto a monster :D

8LB will fill up nicely, but if you want to put backing on then you can probably have roughly 30-50 yards of mono and then 150yards of 8lb braid.

  2. thats why I bring a bag with me

take all my rubbish so I can put it in the bins afterwards

or you could wait for some big seas and that will usually leave hill60 and bass pt spotless

Big Seas won't help much with Windang Bridge :P The rubbish that gets washed off the rocks at Hill 60 and Bass point usually ends up in the local swimming holes or in some poor animals gullet. Better to re-educate people in regards to rubbish than hope a wash comes along to take it into the ocean :)

  3. Hi Guys.. i have a 2500 sized reel.. i plan to spool it with 150 yards of braid.

I am going to back it with mono first, but how much mono do i need? is there a trick to determine how to put enough mono in order to use the whole 150yards of braid?

I suppose i could put all the braid on first, then the mono until it is full... then take it off and mono first, braid second?

    Regards

I have a 2500 stradic FJ spooled with 150 yards 6lb Sufix 832 ghost braid and have had no problems casting or getting spooled.

The spool looks and feels full, the only thing i add to it is a leader and that's it.

Don't really see a need to have mono backing when you think about the target fish you catch with a 2500 reel. Would love to see a Bonito strip 150 yards off the stradic when i can almost skull drag the sucker in. Rat kings give me more of a fight but the braid has yet to get stripped. But the main staple of fish that the 2500 targets barely take anything, add on the casting distance and you probably have 90 or so yards to spare for the fish to take....if you let it :D

Casting wise, metals fly forever and plastics go where i want them to go.

It's nice to have reels made to accommodate braids these days, don't see why people would want to mono back braiding, but to each their own i suppose.

  4. Good work.hope they start cleaning up there mess on the rocks i drove past about a month ago and it was bad

    It's still a mess.

When i lived down there and went regularly, me and a few islanders used to clean up a bit and also mouth off those who tried to walk away without taking their trash.

These days the islanders go to the secret hole and when i occasionally pop in to Hill 60 there are only a few regulars (old timers) who are too timid to stand up to the new generation. A few more years and I'll give up living in Sydney so i can haunt my old fishing holes again...Can't Bloody Wait

  5. I work at a place that has these cases so can't really tell you a price. If you want one like mine you can get one at an electrical wholesaler like TLE John r Turk etc, or do a search online for a slr case, pelican case comes to mind.

Basically it's a case with foam inserts that can be removed to fit your needs. You can get them in either shock proof plastic or aluminium, I prefer the plastic for my reels, no worry in regards to rust. They are usually waterproof, mine is, so once I get a kayak it will come along so I can switch in and out when needed.

  6. What is Celibacy?

Celibacy can be a choice in life, or a condition imposed by circumstances.

While attending a Marriage Weekend, Lyn and I, listened to

the instructor declare, 'It is essential that husbands and wives know the

things that are important to each other.."

    He then addressed the me,

'Can you name and describe your wife's favourite flower Geoff?'

I leaned over, touched Lyn's hand gently, and whispered,

White Wings Self-Raising Flour, isn’t it babe?

And thus began my life of celibacy.....

  7. I usually only use loops knots on my HB lures that i retrieve at a constant rate because the knot is suppose to allow the lure to do it's job by mimicking the bait fish's swimming action.

Plastics (jigheads) i just tie on like i would a hook as the movement is usually done by the plastic :)

If you are losing your leader try a knot that breaks at the knot and not the leader/main joint. It doesn't always work as planned due to frays from rocks and wear and tear, but in prime conditions you can usually save yourself from re-tying a leader.

My set-up is usually an Albright from Main to Leader and then a uni knot down at the lure if i am fishing snaggy areas.

  8. You see many of them crabbing boats in the water last night?

They're killing my prawn and crab haul!

It's embarrassing coming home from a prawn trip with barely a kilo of prawns and 2-3 crabs.

  9. There are farms in NSW, just none that are in our waterways. They are usually recirculation tanks and the Barra are usually bred to table size and sold.

There was a farm down near the southern highlands which is up for sale at present due to high electricity cost.

There is one up near Nelson's Bay i believe called cookabarra. Saw it on Sydney Weekender a while ago, not sure if they let you catch your fish for the cooks to cook it for you.

There was another one somewhere up there also that allowed you to catch your own Barra from the pond, but you had to buy it per kilo once caught. Think this one closed down.

Should go entice the natural hotspring operators and see if they are willing to set up a fishing farm as a side business using the heated water to keep the water temps at 28 degrees for them Barra's. I'd pay to fish :D

  10. Prawning is done in a similar way but is harder to do than netting Gars.

Prawning with a head torch or hand held torch while walking the shallows is a pain but you can get your required qty for bait this way if you are after them for just bait. They're eyes reflect the light so you can spot them if you know what to look for, but the little buggers like to run.

Gars however are attracted to the light and become pretty docile so you just scoop the little suckers up, provided you have found them. I usually bring along a burley tube with chicken pellets to attract them then scoop them up. Not a fun way to catch them but if you are hunting for them at night it's the best method besides throwing a net over them. I'd rather catch them on 4lb line and a float in the day time, they look like mini Marlins jumping outta the water

My preferred method for Prawning is an underwater light and standing in a run out tide and wait for the little suckers to drift down towards you to be scooped up. They try to run away from your light when they come into range or pretend they are part of the weed they are hanging onto. Much easier than stalking them in the shallows, but like all fishing, it's a matter right conditions and luck :biggrinthumb:

Not to sure where you would go in Sydney as i usually do it down in Lake Illawarra.
