  1. The fight was incredible! My mate asked me later that day what pulled harder the 113.5cm Jew on 4pound line or the 1meter King on 50pound. The Jew was a longer fight but the answer is hands down the 1meter King as it never gave up and ripped line off the spool
  2. Cheers BIGMAN Caught it down in Jervis Bay
  3. G’day Raiders Well after a cracker of a day on the Kingies the weekend before where my mate Shane8 finally caught his first legal Kingfish (after many years of failed attempts), we just had to get out and try to get a meter+ model. We were on the water by 4:30am collecting bait and with a few in the tank we headed off to the first spot. After setting up a yakka under a balloon out the back of the boat by 5:15am, we began to pepper the edges with some top water lures when “Pop” the balloon bursts and I’m in. Looking at the Lowrance sounder and noting that the water depth was only 40foot I prepared myself to hang on and hope for the best. After a great fight I had the fish in the boat and on the truth stick. My 1st meter+ Kingfish!
  4. Now we just need to both crack the 100cm Kingfish! Sunday/Monday next week is looking good to head out again
  5. Off Ulladulla on Saturday the 21st of June 2014, made it out to the 1800 line with not a tuna insight. We did get a 117cm Dollie at the 500 line near the Ulladulla Kink. Hoping the weather settles down soon so we can get out there and chase them again.
  6. Well done Shane8 you will have to do some more estuary fishings with me then! Well done on the sailfish in Darwin yesterday (I'm surprised you let your wife get to the rod 1st!) Catch up with you when you get back mate
  7. Cheers everyone, it will be a day I never forget! Im heading out again this week chasing Bream & Snapper, see how I go this time
  8. Hi Raiders I headed out for a quick morning fish on St Georges Basin chasing Bream & Snapper on 4 pound gear but I ended up with a 113.5cm Jew fish instead. After a 45 minute battle around the basin I had it boat side and landed! It was caught on a 80mm bloodworm wriggler.
  9. Great video and even better fish, well done!!!
  10. I headed off Currarong on Sunday to fish the Banks/FAD as I heard that there were Marlin about and a heap of bait. Well there was a heap of slimys around but no Marlin and to make it worse when I got to work today my staff ring me up to tell me that they were catching them off the tubes and in Middle ground at JB! To make it worse, the only two fish caught (Sampson & King) were by my mate. Just my luck....... Hope that the Marlin stick around for a bit and it fires up even more
  11. I've got two screen shots saved to my desktop with the winds on Seabreeze NNE -2 & WSW -1 on Tuesday 27/8/13 but how can wind be in a minus? if it goes backwards does it not just change direction? This is the time I change to using WillyWeather
  12. Spotie, Your 100% right about the new size limits, but I heard that this does not apply for the pros? Thought that I read somewhere it was still 45cm for them..... If so then that sucks as it defeats the purpose.
  13. Cheers Scratchie Yes got a few just size lizards & tailor There was massive amounts of whitebait throughout the system as well. We did plan to go up the back of the river and go for the trifecta (Bream, Bass & EP's) but the wind destroyed that plan.
  14. Hey Raiders Just a quick post from an early Sunday morning session (before the wind turned everything to ) Had a mate give me a call on Friday afternoon inviting me to head down the coast to Batemans Bay to target some Jews on plastics but with the reports of high winds throughout the day we changed the plans and hit the Shoalhaven river a little closer to home. Ended up on the water by 6:30am and tried a few spots before coming to one of the more well-known areas for Jews and with the tide starting to slow it was only a matter of time. I ended up boating this nice little 60cm model at about 8:45am and my mate boated his 65cm model (photo to come later) at about 9:30am (before the winds picked up at 11am) As the new size limits have come into play for these river ghosts (70cm) we got a few happy snaps and released them in good condition to fight another day. Off the water by 12pm and not a bad way to spend a Sunday morning.
  15. Great work mate and a great report as well. Congratulations to both of you
  16. Mate Well Done, a great report (was very jealous reading through it)
  17. Well with all the posts being plastered up on the site about the abundance of YFT being caught off shore and the weather conditions looking great for the weekend, we decided to once again take the little boat wide in the hope of big tuna. We hit the boat ramp (Port Kembla) at 6:30am and jetted out to the 500 line. And with conditions like this it did not take long at all.... On the journey out we came across a field of baby dolphin and seals going nuts feeding on something, was a great sight but as there were not visible tuna there we moved on. We put down two deep diving lures and headed to the Shellharbour Canyons to find the temp break After towing the lures around for a few hours we came across a pod of humpback whales breaching and so we just had to stop and watch for a little while, stunning sight We then realised that we were not there to watch whales and set off again in search of YFT. After around and hour, I notice a flock of birds in the distance and they were diving so we pulled lures and shot over to find fish smashing the surface. We stopped short of the bust up and put the lures out but before we could do anything BANG my rod went off.... After a very short time (5 to 10 minutes) we had the fish on the deck and after a quick celebration we set off again. My mate could not even get his lure out and we were on again on the same rod & lure. Again after a very short fight we had fish number 2 on the deck. With the slight disappointment with the fight, I chucked the lure on to a lighter rod & reel then set off towards the bust up. BANG, we were on for the 3rd time within 20 – 30 mins, this time the reel screamed off to the point I thought I was going to get spooled. 2 mins in to the third fish and the hooks pulled, I was spewing but hey that’s fishing. We trolled around for the rest of the day but unfortunately no more luck. As the wind picked up from the south to around 20knots we made our way back slowly to the boat ramp completely soaked. A big thanks to mr.e.d for putting us on to the fish, the advice was 100% spot on. Cheers mate
  18. I was in at one of the boat shops in South Nowra and when I was in there the guy behind the counter got a call from his mates out at the Jb Canyons letting him know that they had found YFT.
  19. Yep I totally agree, i was fishing the Island a Port Kembla once and it took me almost 1 hour to get back when an unexpected wind showed up. I only attempt to go that wide when the weather pattern is good for a few days after I plan to go out. Very nice upgrade with the import, I was looking of doing the same in a few years (buy a house down the south coast this year) how much did it set you back?
  20. Hey All With all the talk of small boats heading out wide I thought that I would share my hunt for the ghosts of the seas. As the weather was looking good for the weekend (past) and my dad starting his first day of retirement, I suggested that he jump on board to target SBT off Wollongong. Although I received some great advice and support from one of the Raiders (cheers Mr E D) we took the gamble not to join all 100000 boats at Browns Heatons and stayed south We hit the boat ramp (Port Kembla) at half 5 and got the boat in the water ready to head straight out to the 1000 line and drop some lure in the water. Well after a shaky start with the VHF packing it in and the front livewell backfilling we ended up leaving 1 hour later. Once we were out there we trolled around past the 1500 line hitting water temps ranging from 19.2 through to 20.5. We spent most of the day trolling lures until late afternoon when we stopped back at the 500 line for a cube as we picked up a stripy. Apart from the stripy we did not see any other action The boat we took out was a 510 quintrex topender with a 90hp etec, we took two 20 liter jerry cans as back up but ended up not needing them. Went through around 100 liters of fuel for the day covering around 200 km's (approximately) I'm guessing this was due to the great conditions as last time we were out wide of JB we used a bit more Hoping that the fish do show up again and a bit closer this time as although we could of pushed wider I still am hesitant to do this Cheers
  21. Thanks guys for the info, hoping to get my first Yellowfin or SBT this year Good luck for tomorrow mr e.d
  22. I headed out wide today about 50kms off Port Kembla to Kiama Canyons and beyond for a big fat zero.... Do you know where abouts in Wollongong they were hooking up?
  23. Well done mate, Its days like that which keep us all heading back out chasing big fish Great work
