  1. Sure does get u pumped eh Matt, great to see you out there trying , too bad the fish werent as hungry as they have been, Keep on Dads back now for the new Razorline to get you out there more often, I think Ray was keen on seeing the damage left on trace from the Beakie hit, i hope you kept it as a souvenier. Cheers Dave
  2. Sunday was nice had a 1mt swell with 1/2mt chop a bit close together at some times but nice we travelled back at 5.30pm doing 25knotts the whole way Mate i run the same spread everywhere 7" to 12" skirts, JB was skirts
  3. Rabs Water temps were around high 22s when we went in Feb and 22 at JB last week. Fishlexic putting in hours alright boat is 14 months old clocked up 510 hrs and just over 6000ks on water.
  4. Nice fish Stevie thats bigger than last years effort isnt it. This ones almost as big as you, Ha Ha, only joking buddy. Cheers Dave
  5. Well its been a long time since ive posted been flat out chasing fish and working in between, started in Port Stephans on the 10th to the 18th, Saw the FR crew on Broadie on the Sunday, we fished the first day with Joe, Dave, Tabsy and Iain, for one late fish that won its freedom at the boat after 30minutes and to virgin angler Dave, Next day lighter crew with Tabsy back at work, better day with 2 fish hooked and fought with only one being tagged by Iain with me on rod a Full on Psycho Little Black. and that was the last fish we got on our 8 days, but very unlucky after that, thanks for all the help and experience from Iain, Tabsy and Ungry. Last week we headed to JB with Caige, Joe and Chris, still trying to break Joes Virginity on one of these beasts after dropping 4 so far, we trolled all day hooked up our first fish on a cheap Lure in Hong Kong possie, 30 minute fight had her boatside for Joe, tagged by me and traced and revived , 80kg Stripe. Getting late in arvo for drive home to Sydney so motored away towards the heads with spread out and 4ks from the action our shotty gets nailed as we see a beakie caught up and i mean caught up in the spread, well Caige was on to fight his second fish, went hard for 40minutes before getting fish off bottom to boat before seeing it pull drag away again, by this time Caige was sore and needed a break so Chris already harnessed and eager took over and in 10 minutes had it boat side tag in i went to plier out hook when we realised the beauty had been hooked in the top of its head, no wonder it went so Hard. Last Thursday hit Port Kembla late in arvo for fish on my buddies new boat for 3 x bonnies and a couple of rat kings home in bed at midnight, Saturday out wide Sydney with Joe 11 keeper Dollies then Trolled out wide for an hour or two for no joy, back home for quick shower then down to Jb , yesterday with another mate Ray trying to break him in, hooked several Beakies ,fought 4 with one going on 15minutes a nice stripe to have hooks pull on all, action packed day but no prizes, Cant wait for next week end and some nice needed sleep, Addicted to Beakies you bet. By the way I gave up smoking a month ago from 1 1/2 packs a day to Zero and i havent killed anyone yet came close though.
  6. My young bloke picked up his biggest one to date on saturday. And another one that went 9kg landed by Iain on my boat Wide same day after double hook up with beakie.(Beakie Dropped)
  7. Me , Caige, Buddys Joe and Dave ventured to shelf today for beautifull blue water to 23.2 deg but absolutely sloppy conditions, no bait to be seen but the water looked promising, set spread 5ks south of 12 mile heading SE to shelf into some decent 3.5m sets of swell at times and wind up near 20kn blowing SSE, just inside shelf near kink we had the shotty get wacked and maybe bill wrapped as it ran for around 100m before dropping and not comming back, set spread again still heading south had long rigger wacked and pulled 1/2m and within 15 seconds the fish comes back and nails it big time, peeling line on the 24 Tiagra 50w at a rate of knots, pulled at least 500m off in one consistant run(Not showing itself once) before we had Joe harnessed up and started to chase it down, within a minute of turning boat we had an almost empty spool then all of a sudden slack line. Retrieved the line to find the main line with clean cut through, no marks or sign of stretch, it seemed to be cut not far above the plait as no evidence of curled line at end , generally shown if break at double. Turned around back over mark after copping a few over side of boat with conditions worsening and trolled back to 12 mile before returning home in poor conditions. A couple of questions for the experienced game boys if you please. (1) Could the line breakage not showing sign of stretch at cut be due to increased drag on an empty spool after being set at 8kg on a full spool or would have line shown signs of stretch at end. (2) I believe we had hooked a sizable blue, but did not show it self at any time during run, is this common. Have Hooked a Black, 2 Stripes and a presumed Blue once at PS but all breached water at begining of fight. (3) Do i need to look at decreasing drag pressure on stubborn fish when spool empties with over 500m of line out on a Tiagra 50w (4) Am i right in saying if main had broken at the double then the end would have shown signs of curling which would be at beginning of double. THEORIE. Maybe the line had a previous nick in it. Also line was 24kg Stren Clear Thanks and good luck out there. Dave

    The Shelf

Hi Buddy, i have a GPS with Mapping Card showing shelf line along East Coast. It is the 200m line with bottom dropping quite sharply from this point. It is about 28ks South East of Sydney Heads while heading to Browns, The shelf is much closer down south than North. For example Shelf is approximately 17ks out of JB heads and approx 44ks out of PS Heads. I Can get you Gps co ordinates but depends on what point North or South as Shelf line changes so much . Cheers Dave
  9. Small crew , just Me and Joe as Caige had slept in (Man was he on fire, im glad i wasnt there when he woke at 8.30 seriously peeed off), Caught up with Flightmanager launching at ramp and Stumpy at bait grounds. After picking up a few Yakkas, We Down rigged and trolled the North headland ,with yakkas, tackle shop squid and striped tuna, dropping 2 kings at Blue fish, Slow searched North before Sounder started showing a heap of fish with sweep on top and kings below, dropped both down riggers and had 2 baits on surface, heaps of Sweep pickers but after a short time we had a triple hook up, awsome fun with only 2 of us ,on rods and the boat still motoring forward at 1.8 knots, over the next 2.5 hours with several double and triple hook ups in same location boated around 30 kings with only 3 keepers to 75cm and a few bigger ones dropped at boat, due to Uni knott failure (Definately need to look at the cause of this). Jigged up 2 more solid Hoods at wreck to have them pull hooks at boat, i believe due to too much drag applied. Top action packed day and brought home a feed as well. Sorry No Camera so No Pics. Cheers Dave
  10. Great Report, Congratulations with a Nice Black, looks like a great day was had on the water. Cheers Dave
  11. Actually the pic (Above)of Bow shackle is the only correct method of attatching chain to a Sarchor as the pin being a flat surface will eliminate the shackle binding along slot in anchor, shackle binding in slot will make the retreival of anchor almost impossible in rockie areas due to shackle being unable to slide up to heavy end, which is required to break grip to bottom, Also this shackle needs to be stainless steel and be only just smaller in diameter than slot size,(Gal shackle will bind due to harsh surface against the hard surface of Gal anchor and a much smaller diameter pin will allow more sideways movement of Pin causing it to bind at times) . Fishos having an electric winch as i have will have the problem of finding the right size shackle to just fit slot in anchor (Minimum Tolerance required) and also fit the usual 6mm chain, this can be over come with the use of an additional shackle of smaller size to fit chain 6mm and attatch to main shackle as discribed above. This is the only tried and proven method of keeping your costly anchor from being devored by the sea floor. With holding issue, soft mud bottom will always be an issue if big swells or current are encountered, but generally the more rope or less angle to sea floor you have will over come this problem in most circumstances. Cheers Dave
  12. Was at 12 mile about a week ago, absolute desert, nothing showing, the predicted winds dont look good for tommorrow, but good luck and be safe if u get out. Cheers Dave
  13. Hi Buddy it got real nice out wide dropped back to under 1m at shelf but did go through a few big 2.5m+ sets on way, beautifull out wide.
  14. Went out of Sydney yesterday, Slimies were a no show after spending an hour chasing, hit 12 mile for a desert with nothing showing, hit the shelf NE and trolled with Beakie spread out just east of shelf line in 22 deg water about 12ks north of Bait Station before turning East and then south travelling 8ks outside shelf line in fabulous 23.2 deg water , no bait or bird activity but water looking so promising, NE winds came up about 2pm as predicted by Sea Breeze on way back, found a Private Fad wide which held 250mm kingies and same at wave rider, great day out, no prize but always next time. Cheers Dave
  15. Great Video Oz, Ant sure has that jigging style down pat, jigged next to him a few times and still cant work out how he keeps that smooth action going for so long, Too bad on the lost Hoods but would of been a blast, Im loving JB also, great place, hoping to be back down at end of week. Cheers Dave
  16. Hi Buddy , the leveling kit is a hayman reece set up, with an additional square frame for setting up on a straight draw bar, i cant find this on website but i did take info off one from Coldys towbars and made my own to suit the large tubing on my trailer, so they are available. Standard Set up on caravan The Bracket required for straight draw bars
  17. Hi Chris this was our first Beakie to boat after a few lost close and i wasnt going to let myself be able to accuse one of my faithfull deckies of losing fish boatside (If thats what happened), so i put on the gloves and tried out the task of Trace and Tag myself so i was the one to blame if things turned out for worst, with many more T&Gs to come hopefully. My Aim is to get Caige up there during point scoring rounds , our first season with JBGFC. Mate the Shirt, i handed out some harsh words due to failure to wear shirt , but the reply was i only gave him one which was dirty from saturday, what can i say, some more shirts on the way i suppose, Game fishing = Dollars. I will be getting video shot during fight edited by a professional with the addition of background music and pics , with some great action of the young bloke and the presentation night afterwhich i will be happy to get to you later buddy.Cheers Dave
  18. Great work once again boys, i hit Botany on my mates boat "On Edge" for a trip to Fads that didnt eventuate due to outside conditions, but still got to trial run his new outriggers and downriggers, sounds like we should of hit the harbour, but thats fishing, we still ended up with 3 kings downrigging the bay (Even picked the kings before they hit on his NorthStar (Navman) sounder) 2 on yakkas and 1 on shop bought frozen squid with 1 keeper at 70cm on a yakka, (we couldnt catch squid even if our lives depended on it). See you out there real soon. Cheers Dave
  19. Hi all fished the tournie last weekend with Caige and a couple of mates, No go Friday due to weather then saturday a few missed hook ups out wide trolling, Sunday the fun day for us flat water , trolled well wide to 550 fathoms before heading north to the canyons. Caige first strike chasing points for junior running beakie spread had solid hook up on 24 on the shotty, Beakie showing high constantly, chased hard while the little man gained line 40 minute battle and she was boat side , first Tag and Trace for me and first Beakie actually to boat for us after a few lost close, then a huge effort to revive this beast, ten minutes in total before she was able to swim away under her own steam. Back at presentation Caige pulls the big one with Highest Tag and Release Junior Point Score and a absolute huge array of prizes, He cant wait for show and tell at school wednesday. Cheers Dave Chasing Hard Boatside
  20. Great work buddy, we didnt turn a reel all day, even started 14ks SE of browns for troll north into shit conditions, . Did you weight YFT looks in great condition, nice and fat. Cheers Dave
  21. There is a temp break from 19.5 to 16.3 deg about 11 ks SSE of browns TUNA territory and would you believe North of browns 9ks there is a temp break from 19.5 to 24.7 deg BEAKIE territory, will be out tommorrow chasing both with different spreads, changing at browns and head home in NE wind. Heres Hoping, Looks good Boys , Get out there. Cheers Dave
  22. Last week on run north from browns we had 19.5 deg at browns then not far out about 2ks we threw out spread at 19.2deg and had hook up before we had all spread out, 0.3 in that area and later further North another 0.3deg change made all the difference, did not see any bait or birds all day just slight temp break, best thing it kept all crew alert . We ran from 12 mile too browns without temp change staying at 19.5 , the 0.3 deg change worked well
  23. We have the full set + extra 37 and 24kg outfits now and also re-rigged all the Pakulas and tested running on water, all we need now is God , Weather, and fishing the right area to be on our side.LOL Bring on PS in Feb. Racked and ready.
  24. Mate as you have seen i have a AWD 6 speed Auto Territory, pulls boat weighing inexcess of 2500kgs, have transported up and down coast several times like a dream, the 6 speed just nails it, would highly recomend this vehicle for towing ability, i did fit tow bar self leveling kit due to weight but tow weight under 1500kgs should not be a problem , like all towing weight ensure tow ball weight is close to 10% of total weight , mine has 230kgs on tow ball but self leveler transfers weight back to front leveling out ride and making it as good as it gets. Cheers Dave
  25. One is better than none good work anyway, better than stressing at work like me, im hoping to get out for short day sunday but will have Beakie spread out, heres hoping, we need to catch up again out there, always makes a better day when you have contact with other guys fishing different areas, as we did last time. Cheers Buddy. Dave
