  2. Found one guy, got quoted $900!! New unit I thinks $1500ish(waiting for quote).... I think new one it'll have to be. Do you think the old unit is sellable?
  3. Hey all, i was chipping away at the ice built up in the isotherm fridge in the cabin and pierced a hole through the little freezer compartment and all the gas came out(stupid, i know!!!) anyone know someone who can fix this and regas it as well, preferably on the north shore?
  4. Try 5/0-7/0 circles, single hook either thru the top or above the eyes
  5. i know im late but was bored at work so had a little play around with it
  6. Great learning lesson, I was happy all the gear stayed intact! Here's a great video I found, at the 10:20 mark it shows how a blue died during the fight.... http://vimeo.com/85321072
  7. i guess the only way to learn is thru experience, so i say my story, then again u come home a bit down, im still depressed lol
  8. jumped once at aroun the 15min mark and a second time prob around the 30min mark, both times skipped across the surface for dunno i guess 50m!! im just not experienced enough, when i saw the spool empty, i realised all my knowledge of fishing is meaningless!!
  9. We kept trying to drive away from it followed by a quick retrieve but with a few meters of line left we weren't making much progress! Next time I guess
  10. NE of the heads , i think 500-600m, we cruised til we found the really nice water from memory we had a 38nm trip back, conditions were awesome all brand new gear too, back to the tackle shop !!
  11. lol so i spent 2 hours just holding up dead weight on full drag thinking i have a chance!! no wonder im in so much pain! guess i gotto learn somehow
  12. yep it was def a blue......u think it had died? thats why i couldnt lift her up?
  13. so ive only ever caught one stripe marlin on a charter in cabo mexico before.....so last friday we had the morning to fish so headed out to chase my first sydney marlin. Couple of hours into it we found great water 23deg so started to troll, half an hour into it we saw birds and dolphins splashing about, no sooner had we passed it the long rigger starts screaming(37kg standup) couldnt believe my eyes and more than half the spool emptied in seconds!! with 2 of us onboard we cleared the other lines and started chasing her to retrieve some line, 15 min into it the big blue comes out Greg whos well experienced called it for 180-200kg!! now im strapped up into the standup gear trying to bring this beast in but everytime we gain a bit she takes double. anyway an hour into the fight thinking that i have her in control she takes a massive dive to the bottom, with only meters of line left on my reeel, i put it in full drag which stops the fish, but for the next 2 hours i couldnt gain nothing on her, we tried everything but it was a stand off.....3 hours into it i couldnt take it anymore, she'd taken every ounce of energy out of me and the reel was next to empty and we had to get back as greg had to go back to work, so we cut the line!!! i wasn't going to share this post as im still depressed about it all, but maybe some of you can shed some light on what we could've done different? one things for sure, ill be back again and again until i get one boatside!!
  14. used to catch a few when i was a kid at clontarf! im boat based these days, but you should try around the spit bridge or maybe grotto....even better invest in a used kayak for a few hundred $ and you'd be amazed how much more you can catch when you're further in the middle and on the move covering a greater area!! don't give up, you'll eventually find your way
  15. get a rapala or halco redhead bibbed minnow about 10-20cm long, will get you kings and salmon everytime!! i usually troll til i find them, then chuck a livey, squid or whatever....BTW the earlier the better, try 530-6 for better results havnt really fished your way, but id say headlands good luck
  16. well done!! looks like an awesome week! i notice the teaser you use in 2 of the pics...you recommend them, or have any thoughts? I run a similar one but not sure if it really makes a difference....just bought a dredge, but yet to try it cheers peter
  17. went out to the FADs this morning, got a dozen dollies, only 3 keepers! reports on the radio were quiet on the beakie front..... back at work now, wishing i could stay out all day!!
  18. you gotta be happy with that!! well done!
  19. the deep divers you can troll 8knots, but 6-7 is best. the smaller you go the slower you should go also. just make sure you get the rod tip vibrating nicely and then you know you're speed is right! always troll a redhead in your spread!
  20. XRAP's are a type of bibbed minnow lures made by rapala, great lures i might add. If youre not good with lures, try pilchard on ganged hooks, works great! dollies can be found around any of the FADS or any floating object out at sea for the next 2-3 months!! good luck
  21. We should hopefully be out. Call sign MAHI I was on the boat today listening to all the chatter, lots of fish sighted but not many caught. From memory 1wahoo couple of dollies, only couple of YFT late avo & few stripies. You got to be in it to win it :-)
  22. just an update, we trolled to heatons and back yesterday for one small YFT couple of NM west of heatons, nothing else all day. Saw 3 other boats out near browns, heard of 1 shark caught on the radio and that was all!
