  1. sounds like my old boat, i used to own a 28' trophy (97 model) with twin 150hp mercury 2 strokes, browns and back trolling all day for 600L+ on a good day! not to mention oil! my new boat a Deep Vee 310 SE has a single duo-prop 370hp diesel, we went past heatons and back on sat (12hr day) all for 190L, i was pleased!! plus a YFT on the way back!
  2. Hey mate, we caught the yft today, trolled to heatons and on the way back about 2-3nm NE of browns we got just the one. Didn't turn a reel before or after Good luck, very quiet out there today, I think we just got lucky!
  3. hey i wanna come too lol ....my boats docked at the spit, im bit busy now but ill have some free time mid-jan onwards!! keep the reports coming
  4. getting a nice session in like that before work! thats dedication! great effort, i think ill need to try it one morning! good work
  5. all were caught on the little 7 rapala red/white minnows. Other colours didnt seem to work, popper didnt work either. I had a large SP prob 10cm, they chopped it to pieces but couldnt hook any up! I find the little rapalas are magic, pretty much gets anything, only problem is ur trolling so damn sloowwww!
  6. After countless trips and NO kings cause of this that or the other, i went out yesterday for a troll. With the wind howling, i decided to troll along south head as it was relatively calm. Just before i got to north bondi came across a school of kings and it was on. Trolling 2 rods by myself it got pretty exciting at times. All up 7 kings one at 65, 6 at 55-60cm plus a few dropped. Not much to take home, but at least i got my first sydney kings! After a 1m + that i got in mexico earlier this year, ive got the bug! hopefully ill crack the meter mark here this summer! they disappeared by around 2pm, trolled all the way back for zilch!
  7. Apparently they tagged 159 Albacore and 27YFT, plus "many others kept for the table" i read elsewhere. Can any one enlighten us as to when we can expect the Albacore and YFT's to show up off sydney? their migration pattern? And will trolling skirts/minnows all day do the trick? thanks in advance
  8. i actually got a fuel meter put on with the new engine....setup is a deep v 310se single sterndrive volvo penta d6 370hp duoprop, @4.5 knots troll it uses 2.5l/ph which is nothing on a 31footer, @ 7.5-8knots that goes up to around the 10-11l/ph mark, @cruise which is 20-22knots it uses 45-50L/ph, WOT 26-30 knots depending on weight and seas 75L/ph. She was originally built to survey for gold coast fishing charters and they did a full report on her in the Bluewater magazine back then
  9. Thanks fellas, bit new to the marlin fishing, so i think skip baiting etc will be experimented with this season, hopefully i'll get it right soon rather than later!! I need to get better results for 40hrs of trolling! i worked out if i keep up the this pace ill do 600hrs first yr and 30 odd salmon lol!!
  10. After 6 years of being boatless, i finally got myself a new boat in late july. I repowered it with a new D6 did the bits'n'pieces and finally on the water! Looking desperately on this forum to see where the fish are these days, i was disappointed to hear the fishings been a bit quiet. Anyway its been 3 weeks and ive clocked 46 hours on the new motor! Here's the result.... Thu 11/10--Long reef wide, very quiet 4 legal sized Snapper/Trevally on pillies Thu 18/10--Trolled South Head for 1 salmon 60cm, 1 trevally, 4 tailor all on CD7's Wed 24/10--SOuth head all the way to Maroubra! for zilch, on the way back we got a nice salmon 55cm at Nth bondi, back to middle head for 2 tailor and 1 trevallly, all on CD7's Thu 25/10--Trolled south head for zilch(big swell) back to Nth head zero again, then middle head for 3 tailor, barely legal again all on CD7's We did spend last weekend cruising to hawksbury with freinds, managed to troll half way up before they started whinging that we're going to slow but no fish! Anyway, ive learnt alot from the posters on this forum, hope i can give back to the readers bit more fruitful info in the future. Can't wait for the marlin!!
