  1. I have one in the 2-4kg I think. It is a very soft rod. If you are going to do bait and soft plastic get it. Otherwise I woukd prefer something a bit stiffer.
  2. Will do. Thanks Regards Michael
  3. Coincidently I too saw this on google maps and tried it out last Saturday as my regular spot is getting popular with swimmers. In 1.5 hours only got one follow and caught another tiny squid right near the boat ramp. Tried about 10 different jigs of various sizes and colour. Red got the follow, pink hooked it. No action on natural, green or white. I will leave this place for a month or more to let them get a bit bigger. On a side note, I would suggest fishing an incoming tide (this is when I have had my best results off the rocks for squid). Good luck!! Regards Michael
  4. Me and the girlfriend are heading up to port for the weekend. Seeings though it is my choice for a getaway i get two solid days fishing. We will have the boat for fishing in the bay. Any reports? Any news on jewfish or Kingies? Was thinking of trying for squid, flatties, whiting around shoal bay or salamander. Also witches hats for blue swimmers (same areas) Regards Michael
  5. I would have to agree. The most professional, helpful and entertaining crews around. Regards Michael
  6. That would have been a sight to see. Are you going to be heading out again this weekend? If you aren't sick of tuna yet I would suggest trying this.
  7. Congrats Dave! What size did you get then to? Regards Michael
  8. Thanks for the day out out Damo, I really enjoyed it. I may be keen for another trip out mid-late week with my brother. I will know for sure tomorrow, he has to confirm with work. I will give you a call. Regards Michael Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
  9. Hi Damo, Count me in on Saturday if there is a spot left. Michael
  10. No haven't seen any others accept for those on this website. Be sure to keep a big bait on the bottom. Not sure if I will be up till Saturday night though. Good luck. Let me know how u go.
  11. Have been spending a bit of time up the coast. I have two reports Saturday 13/04/2013 Started off trying for squid but the dolphins were clearly visible. Didn't have much luck on the squid only getting 2 little arrows. Saw some yellowtail hanging underneath the boat so dropped some berley and the bait jigs and quickly got 10. The decided to hit the bottom to get some rock cod and anything else. Turned out to be a good decision. Ended up with 10 rock cod, 2 octopus, 1 maori cod, 1 snapper at 32cm (with another 2 at 29cm which were released), 2 flounder and a flathead. All the fish were eaten by Sunday and Monday nights. Sunday 21/04/2013 Launched at Shoal Bay thinking that the southerly would make it ok. Was completely wrong! The swell was coming making it very difficult (I was on my own this time). Thankfully a pro fisho held the boat for me while I parked the car. The plan was to get live bait and then head to salamander bay for longtails and jewfish. Saw the longtails busting up for literally seconds only to have them disapear for 20 min. At one point they were only 10m from the boat. Had a livie on the top under a float and one on the bottom. Feeling frustration with the tuna I put both rods on the bottom one livie and a butterflied yakka. The butterflied yakka went first. As I was netting it (70cm Jewfish), the fish tangled the other line and I could feel the weight of another fish. Unfortunately, but luckily the other fished went away. When I brought up the livie it was destroyed but still kicking. Called it quits shortly after that as I had to get back to Sydney. Here is a pick of the jewfish. The first one I have caught for about 15 years. Looking to give it another go this weekend (hopefully). Putting the boat back on was a disaster. I was the person at the ramp that everyone looks at and wonders how long they have been doing for. Another pro fisho waiting for them to pull the nets in held the boat again while I reversed the car. The swell pushed the boat up onto the shore, I was soaked up to my waist. It would have been quite a show for everyone. Other than that, it was an awesome day and thoroughly enjoyed it. Cheers Michael
  12. Thanks Geoff. I am aware of that area, however I am in a 4m hornet and don't like going offshore unless it is glass. Damo, thank you very much for that. I will give it a shot this thursday or weekend hopefully. It is very close to where i caught a jewfish on the weekend. I have 5 yellowtail left that I will butterfly worst case.
  13. Was wondering if anyone knows of a reliable yellowtail spot around this area. I fished the area on the weekend but had to get my livies from shoal bay. (Will post a report tonight) I Would prefer not to spend so much time travelling and spend more time fishing. Cheers Michael
  14. I will be heading to coorongooba creek for the weekend. I believe this is around a similar area. Has anyone got experience in this creek or is it to shallow?
  15. Bit of a delayed post. Went up the coast to Wyong last weekend. Stopped off at the local petrol station and got two packets of the best hawkesbury prawns I have ever seen. On the water by 7am managed well over 20 bream between 15cm - 37cm and 1 whiting. Also lost another massive whiting just at the boat. Almost lost one of my rods when a bream smashed the bait and took the rod for a swim. Without realising I found myself in the water with the rod in my hands on to land a 26cm bream. Needless to say he was kept for dinner. Having not fished the area before decided to concentrate our efforts around the drop off just out of the river you launch the boat. This is where we found most of the fish. Sorry no pics. Michael
  16. Thanks Stapo. If the rain holds i'll get out there.
  17. I'm heading up there this weekend but staying around wyong. Im taking my boat up. I was going to anchor up in a channel amd scoop prawns. Do you think it would be worth while giving it a shot?
  18. Hi All, Considering building a couple of lobster pots to set while I flick plastics for snapper. Just wondering if anyone has made a lobster pot and could provide some details on the materials and preferred dimensions (fisheries website is not so clear) they used. Regards Michael
  19. I have the tyrnos 12. There are two things i dont like about it. - the reel is loud when you wind with the ratchet off. - The paint is a bit crappy. (could be my fault though - chips really easily). I have it on a deep jig 200 and am happy with it. I know you said you were downrigging with it but if you are bottom bouncing or jogging with it at all the noise gets annoying. Cheers Michael
  20. Around the same location, and about this time last year I had a fairly large kingfish follow a 35cm blackfish right to my feet. A couple of weeks ago fished the same location for blackfish while my dad was using bream gear and a small laser lure. He got smoked by a very large fish. Also saw large boils around the area throughout the day as well.
  21. I have Tyrons 12 with 50 pound braid. It is on a 200 deep jig. I run it at around 8 kg at strike. This gives a better drag curve for my purposes. I do a lot of different styles of fishing, live baiting, trolling jigging with it. If you have too you can always go to sunset. But this handles just about anything. Also on a side note, what do you think of the reel? I don't know why they made it so loud (with the clicker off), gets a bit annoying when jigging.
  22. Hi, Is there any chance of getting a group together for the 20th or weekend after?
  23. Troll live baits if you can keep them on your yak. I'm pretty sure you will be able to get longtail that time of year as well. Cheers Michael
