  1. Great result, especially that trev. Question: do you run a two hook rig? If pin the lower hook lightly under the skin of the head it won't kill them.
  2. Scroll down a few posts there is another thread with more info.
  3. Hoping to be on the water again soon after a 2 year hiatus due to full time study plus work. Usually fish Harbour/Botany heads and Middle Harbour with occassional trips from Malabar. Also want to get out to Longreef this year. First I have to get a 2 week holiday out of the way tho.
  4. Kings can turn up pretty much anywhere in the Harbour at tmes. Spots I have either had success on the kayak or seen fish hooked are (in no particular order): - Spit Bridge - wedding cakes and other shipping markers (including any dropoff from Shark Island to heads) - outer part of North Head (my biggest) - North side of Goat Island (just watch to don't head into the no fishing zone toward the bridge) Some us downriggers, I prefer to use a decent size lead and troll live bait really slowly, mainly because I am cheap. Soft stickbaits can also work well, particularly around the markers. Salmon seem to be around now, you just need to find the schools and chase them. Jews - NFI Flathead - Not much idea for Harbour but if we want them usually drift the area between South Head and Sow & Pigs reef. Need to be really careful tho due to lots and ferries & other traffic. Hopefully we will start getting back on the water soon so will PM you once we get some time.
  5. Many of the shad style lures would fit the bill. Squidgy fish and Slick Rigs are pretty close
  6. Know someone who, when still a younf fella, was carrying a hessian bag of eeltail catfish home and managed to get spiked in the groin. Over 70 yo now and it is apparently still, by far, the most painful thing he ever experienced.

    Old reels

Should be pretty easy to service. May find schematics witha google search. Parts may be a different matter if required.
  8. Another option if u want something that is fine in swell around the heads is a Hobie Adventure with a single ama from a Aventure Island. Good speed and excellent stability
  9. Pretty easy to do. Mine is 90mm pvc with tapered endcaps like you put on a stink pipe. Start with about 1m pvc. Cut last 10cm off the end. Cut this piece lengthways one side so it can wrap around the rest of the pipe. Cut door opening about 2/3 of the way along the remaining section. Wrap cut piece around door. Attach a float with cable ties I used a length of pool noodle. Just remember the bigger the diameter the more drag it creates. Some have gone down to 50mm pipe. Also clean up any burrs inside or yr baits will get scaled. Will try to remember to take photos & post them
  10. I have a sit on with the powerlock style fitted into a scotty base. Bolts only protrude far enough thru hull to be secured. If you go to THEYAKSHED site there are instructions for making rod holders out of pool noodle that are secured under deck bungey
  11. Is this a sit in type or sit on top? Scotty, Railblaza & Ram all make suitable products. There are a few dedicated kayak fishing sites as well where you will be able to find information.
  12. I fish 30lb braid from a kayak around the headlands. Biggest so far is 113cm. The trick if fishing structure is to be able to lead them into deeper water before going hard on the drag
  13. As others have said there are some pretty good aftermarket seats around, particularl those by Surf 2 Sumit. Plenty of info on the specific kayak fishijg forums as well.
  14. What a great effort. Got one that length from the kayak but not as fat while fishing around North Head a while back. They certainly give you a workout. My first instinct when hooking fish close to structure is the head for deeper water.
  15. Spoke to the guys at Lovig & they get great reveiws. Only problem for me is I like to go offshore & they can't install a fly (Kokatat can for extra $50) so no way to releive myself during a long trip.
  16. Great result.Been trying to get the yak out but life & study keep getting in the way
  17. Have you taken the reel apart? Could be something loose that is allowing the frame or interenals to twist?
  18. I use a blue 9800mAh LiIon I got off ebay for $20. Get about 8-10 hours on a Garmin 300c and no issues after 2 years
  19. I run my kayak sounder (Garmin 300c) off a 9800mAh LiIon battery I got from ebay for about $20. Comes with over charge circuit built in and gets me around 8-10 hours on the water. Have it mounted inside a water tight plastic container. AKFF or KFDU sites will have all the info you need.
  20. Thanks for that. Was hoping to get out today but too much study to get through. Will keep an eye on the weathr for friday.
  21. Was the brown slime anywhere near a deep ocean outlet?
  22. Good to know they are about. Was thinking about hitting the eastern beaches in the next week or so.
  23. Any reports of salmon on the beaches. Not fished a beach in years but was thinking throwing a few metals might be a good way to get a study break.
  24. Fishing out of a kayak trebles are something I like to do away with where possible. In my experience jigging hooks seem to be the preferred way to go on larger lures.
