Some really nice Kingie baits there squidyJ. I’m not a great “ squidder” (only chase them to get Kingies), but a small amount of rain doesn’t seem to affect them too much, but a lot of rain causes them to go deep as fresh water is less dense than salt and so floats on top, where the squid can’t survive. When I’ve caught squid after heavy rain, I’ve had them die in the live bait tank as the pickup is at the back of the boat and sucks in the fresher, less salty water.

To catch them after a big fresh, I hunt around the ocean headlands on the run in tide, which brings in the salt water and pushes the fresh back, after really heavy rain (like now) I think they might head out to sea or sulk in deep salty holes.

    Interesting point. Thanks

If you look at the photos below you will see one important thing that you need to check before you try charging any battery and that is that the polarity of the charger matches the polarity of the battery.

This becomes even more important when using non OEM batteries + just make sure you have + to + and - to - otherwise something will go bang !

This charger can do two types of batteries which can be seen on top of the charger itself and although this one is li-ion the same principles apply to Ni-cad or Nimh.

Also note that cheap replacement batteries may not have the inbuilt thermal cut out ( this is the third terminal on the battery which can be seen at 12 o’clock position in the charger socket and on the battery )so they can catch fire .

somewhere on the charger it should tell you which types of battery it can charge as seen on the label of a Ryobi charger ( bottom photo)

    Agree.

I have many different cordless tools (brands, types and voltages) and I would use only dedicated charger designed for the same type battery type.

  3. You can either go with 4 strokes Merc, yamaha, suzuki, honda or 2 stroke fuel injected Evinrude ETEC. Advantage of new ETEC is less servicing and weight. Service is required after 3 years or 300 hours.

Sorry, I've just read, that production of ETEC is shutting down!

  4. Great report.

Fished there 8 years ago from the boat but it was way too hot. All the fish was sitting too deep in the lake so we went too see the hatchery in JB. Interesting.

The crabs will be along the edges of the drop offs, and also out in some deeper water. At this time of year, I have caught them in 30 to 40 feet of water, and a couple of them today were in that depth when throwing a line out from the boat.

Low tide is best as there is not too much current flow on the run-up tide. Crabs move about quite a bit, and will even swim up off the bottom and cruise along near the surface on occasions. Just a matter of finding them, usually not too far out from the weed beds.

Caught blue swimmers with fishing rod in the past, but I didn’t know that it can happen so often. Thanks
