  1. I have found it to be a needle in a haystack. My father-in-law and I have been regular sailors for 20 years between Pittwater, Box Head, Juno Pt, and a few KMs out to sea. For years I chucked a lure out the back, as many times the yacht is travelling at a good trolling speed......Christmas trees, spoons, deep diving Rapalas & bombers.....

Must have trolled over 150KMs for one fish off Barrenjoey Headland.....a kingfish - around 50cm from memory. Most of this trolling between noon-4pm, so not ideal.

Rather than random trolling, have had much more success in the tinny searching for schools with the sounder, and birds showing us the way.

Try slowing it down to 4-6 km/h, i catch plently of mine with a rapala magnum, for tailor around the mouth of mackerel and down till about jerusalem bay its filled with small tailor. bonito and salmon on the western shore around the basin and from flint and steel till around lion island.

  2. Mate,

no need to wade put, its only a short little flick to the eddy.

Let me know how you go

    Cheers

    Chris

I went down yesterday with some plastics, I was casting onto the western pylon and got a 38 Flathead 2nd cast, with a 4" jigging grub. it was too windy to get some good casts in tho. i was down there the first hour of the run in but the place was left in a mess... A dead undersize tailor on the oysters and lines and rubbish everywhere. Thanks for the advice.

  3. Mate,

I cant't talk much about the lane cove side...It the shallow sideof the river.

Back a long time ago, I used to live locally and always fished the hunters hill side.

I have seen a 40ish CM snapper pulled from the middle on a pillie bait (not mine unfortunately!

My favourite trick was to lob there in the last hour of the fall.....

There had been giys there all day lashing the water to foam with bog baits and 3oz leads...

I would lob up with a flick rod and Mr Twisters...remember them? 1/4 Jig head/

Quick flick downstream of the eastern bridge pylon ....nice eddie there...

    On with a decent flattie...60+

Gone in 20 minutes with the other guys going WTF!!!!!

only every the one fish as I was not being greedy,

Did it on a regular basis.

You might want to give that a try!

    Cheers

    Chris

Did you wade out and Which side of the bridge the side (closer to harbour bridge?)

  4. Hi guys,

Im going over to singapore in a week and im thinking of taking my Trion which is 3-6 kg (7 foot, 2 piece ) and i was just wondering whether i should take it and the risks with taking it. Im flying singapore air and it will end up in a travel golf bag if i do take it. I've heard stories of staff throwing "fragile" bags around more thank regular ones. Also should or would I be able to hand carry it?

    Thanks.

  5. Is anywhere near the flying fox park etc any good?

You might want to try a bit of beach fishing around Northern Beach es ( north narra ) as i seem to get a few fish every time. For Land Based in Pittwater try the non surf side of Palm beach and wade out a bit and use some SP and ganged pilchards if you want. Try around the marinas as they can hold some good kings.

  6. Loads of spots mate. Considering your looking to anchor up overnight, i'd avoid flint and steel... Juno Pt is certainly an option, but other areas like Rail Bridge and Wobby Beach may be more suitable. I'm no expert on wobby but i know of a fair few jews coming from there. Deep water so not a bad place to anchor overnight. Fish fresh baits (preferably live) and you'll have a good shot. Hawkesbury has some cracker bream so its worth throwing out a strip of mullet or other bream bait when anchored up. A little burley goes a long way!

    Cheers, Tom

Thank you alot, regarding the fresh bait, would you know any spots? Whenever i seem to go to the hawkesbury or pittwater i always get atleast 1 Yakka but is there anywhere particular ?

  7. Hey guys,

Just getting ready for summer and some overnighters in the pittwater/hawkesbury area. Im just wondering if anybody knows any good Jewfish spots. The area which would be accessible would be from about Scotland Island to Jerusalem Bay ( incl. Brooklyn ). Also, i've heard reports of good squid coming out of Mackerel beach and im just wondering if anyone could confirm this. I need a spot where i can be moored as if get nothing id like to sleep  . Any spots or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  8. Decided i couldn't be bothered to go to uni today, with the weather being so nice. So i skipped a few lectures and rocked up at the caravan park at round 3.30pm. Flicked my blade around for a little while for zilch. The wind was picking up so i decided to head to Woolies bridge instead. Managed a flattie on a 2 inch gulp shrimp and then another 2 within the next 2 hours or so on a 3 inch minnow grub. Ranged from 38cm to 43cm and all destined for dinner. Picked up 2 undersized flounder as well on plastics and they went back in to grow some more. Packed up at around 6.30.

Chatted to a few guys who said the fishing was a bit slow in the lake at the moment, hopefully it starts to hot up soon.

    Cheers

At this time of the year is it better to fish closer to the sea or near the back of the river? I was thinking billarong reserve or the entrance. both with sp. What do you think?

  9. Spent all day there today, loverly sunny day but a resounding doughnut. Fished SPs at various spots, opposite caravan park, Lakeside Park sports fields, Middle Creek. No bites whatsover. Watched a few other anglers in between, only thing I saw caught was a bream barely larger than the prawn it was caught on... Probably still too early, although as others have said, you might just be lucky! Anyway, that's what I always tell myself when I go.

Do you think now would be better? Im thinking of going down.

  10. Google will do the trick.

I checked them out a few years ago. About 80% of stores are in the same street (can't recall the name) along a stretch of a few hundred meters.

I did not find pricing all that cheap but it depends on how much you spend.

The shelf price can drop considerably with some haggaling.

The most important aspect is to know your prices before arriving. If not , it's difficult to determine if there prices are good or not.

Bottom line , don't expect to save heaps & if there is a quality problem it's unlikely you will be taking it back.

    Geoff

    Thank you. Helped alot

  11. Hey guys,

going to singapore next year and im just wondering on if there are any decent stores for fishing tackle. Im interested in Cheap but good fishing gear excluding rods but am open to any good deals as long as they fit in my bag. Thanks

  12. Hey guys im going out on my boat tonight and need to find a place to moor and fish through the night. Any suggestions. I was thinking flint and Steel but maybe not. ALso what type of fish/what the bottom is (sand or snaggy). All spots down to about jerusalem bay and from around scotland island. Any suggestions greatly appreaciated. Just looking for Jewfish flathead or some pelagics but that might be a bit early

  13. I fished palm beach yesterday, with bloodworms on one rig and ganged pillies and a surf popper on another. 2 hours, good gutter and high tide............one lousy dart and a small tailor. Gone a little quiet but any beach with a gutter as good as anywhere else.

alright thanks for that, do you think it was worth it?
