  1. The Marlin are still around alright, searabbit and myself were fishing just the back of Texas for Kings two weeks ago and nearly got spooled by we think must've been a blue on my Stella , line parted ways and the Marlin could be seen jumping in the distance, great excitement for a brief minute

  2. Good weekend at Jervis bay chasing kings along the cliffs, caught 6 squid in morning, they were a bit hard to come by, but we headed out in pretty ordinary conditions on Saturday , big swell, rain and a bit of wind, perfect we thought, anyway converted 6 baits into 3 kings, 14kgs, and two 9 kegs fish, also pulled hooks on two fish, one was a big fish, but it was a first for me to be fishing this area , I'll be back againpost-1999-0-65438000-1435033883_thumb.jpgpost-1999-0-69419800-1435033857_thumb.jpg

  3. Mate sounds like you still had a fun day out, we were at botany wide fad, divers were there too, I had spoken to these guys last time out there, they were pretty good about it they took there turn drifting past like everybody else, they even got out and starting fishing rod and reel for them, told me weren't to many big ones down there, told me bigger ones hanging wider, they ended up getting a good ons on the troll

  4. Gday guys,

Just after some advice on jigging kings in New Zealand , going there. Next week ,I've heard of a couple of good charter operators, but wouldn't mind some feedback from anyone who has been jigging there and who'd they recommend .

  5. Fishbones, mate I had four going, managed to get a couple in, but was tangled with the third, rest of the morning I just ran two, 1 had a xrap the other a skirt, too many hassles otherwise, limiting my chances of another one I know but with one on the deck wasn't complaining

  6. G'day Raiders ,

with the weather reports being so favourable decided to go and try my luck on the yellowfin ,headed out of botany and headed se for about 40 kms, a few boats already scattered about,, didn't take long and soon there was plenty out enjoying the sun and great flat seas, fish were breaking the surface all day in patches but weren't all that interested, I managed 1 about 35kg ,only a guess I didn't have it weighed, about 1.30pm I decided to call it a day as fish didn't want to play, plenty of dolphins and whales keeping me entertained for the long but quick trip back home. NOTE TO SELF : take someone with me next time, too much of a challenge trying to wind other lines in while keeping pressure on fish and fighting him to surface then gaffing , bit of a tangle but as we all know worth the effort.post-1999-0-24251000-1378252020_thumb.png

  7. X2, but location is a start. Kudos goes to the OP for not being shy about the spot and show it in the photo, as it will help some people on here. I know of that spot it is not that secret but I only caught 1 soapie here :).

    G'day Raiders,

i did have a good day on the jewies yesterday, and from the pic most would know of the spot and how far along the road bridge i was,no point in hiding it,this is what this site is all about i thought, sharing your knowledge and information,in saying that, just because they were there yesterday doesn't always mean they be there today, but it's a good spot to try.

    Cheers Dave

  8. hi people just a quick post here,, went out wednesday 3-8-11 headed out with a mate in his boat (sideshow) it was an awesome day on the water we headed to the mountain for a drop and bagged out with big gems in 2 drops so we decided to start a cube trail with the nice drift we had, after an hour or so both rods go off at once the 24 hooked solid and the 15 took off so hard it half spooled then popped the line before we had a chance to button the drag,,so hooked up on what we knew was a big fish a shark decides to turn up swimming way to close to the line and us frieking out i convince him to leave by sacrificing one of out gems, off he went happy little camper, as we were watching him swim off with his feed another shark says hello, god damn it are you serious, so again i sacrifice a gem and send him on his way,,after a good hour fight with lots of big circles we see colour and he comes to the boat for us, before we knew he was on the deck and we had ourselves a weighed 57kg yellwfin for dinner, as it was dark we decided to head home and call it a day and start the big tour of cleaning,,,,

    hope you enjoyed the post

    cheers

    Congrats boys,

Bet you were happy once you had him tail slapping on the bottom of your boat.Well done

  9. Hi guys,

Just wondering if you could help me by telling me the best places to pick up some live yakkas and squid in botany bay please.

    Cheers

    Mick

    :1fishing1:

    Mate,

in the little bay behind mol.point near the tug boats, you'll usually see plenty of boats in there getting them.

    Dave

  10. well deserved nice king, you end up sore after gettn bounced around all day in swell like that.

    Well done roosterman,

Searabbit and myself took a couple of crews upto Terrigal on Sunday for a shot at the kings, with one guy on each of our boats laying on the bottom of the boat a little green around the gills as swell was fairly pumping through probably around 2.5 mtr, it was left to us to do all the jigging, mate there must be that many jackets around,we lost jig after jig,and also got busted off by a few kings as well,i think leader must have had a few nicks in it from jackets,as fighting king to nearly 5 metres under boat leader broke about 1/2 way down, good king too.Ended up with a few, plenty there, just have to get to them.At least you got a couple of good fish.

    Dave

  11. Was out there on Friday. Lost more jigs than I ever have out there to jackets. Including 4 jap imports. Ouch! an expensive day.

    G'day Marty,

Searabbit and myself were out at texas on Friday, managed to land 4 legals, plenty of rats and got smoked by a big fella, dont know how to stop these big ones, may have to go upto 80lb braid, was using 58lb torture braid on 8kg of drag and couln't stop him,all over in 10 sec. We also lost about 20 jigs between us,if you paused for a second jig was gone to those pesky jackets

    Dave

  12. Yeah I thought the boy would have gone flat out but, he did the right things..FOR A CHANGE.. and listened to all the advise and took his time.. and yes he was totaly buggered..

Dont forget he might be tall but he is only 16 years old and I have never been so proud..

    Yarraone,

Well done, and pass on my congrats to your boy,job well done.I didn't realise he was only 16,a great effort and one i'm sure he'll remember, and i bet he's on your back already about booking with the lads again

    Dave

  13. Here's a a bit of a read for anyone that is keen on going out of Terigal to chase some kings on jigs. Hope you enjoy.

Well my dad finally got a weekend free so we have been checking the weather all week and it looked like Sunday was going to be the best day we have had out yet (weatherwise).

But it wasn't... instead of 0.3m seas and 6-8knot winds it was more like 20knot winds and 2.5m seas.

This is a pic as we were leaving terrigal boat ramp, it was actually looking pretty good untill we hit the 10km mark, then it just blew up instantly.

After aprox 45minutes of punching our way through the swell we arrived at our destination and sounded around to find the best spot so we wouldn't just be jigging where there was no fish.

    post-14559-12824726628_thumb.jpg

And soon enough we found this nice little patch of reef that was showing fish a couple of metres of the bottom, so down go the jigs and up come the........... BARRACUTAS :ranting2::ranting2:

I absolutly hate these things as all they do is waste your time and destroy your jigs/assist hooks.

Anyway after moving away from the cutas I jigged around for a bit more and hooked another one but this was just any cuta... it turned into a kingfish right beside the boat :074:

Well, not really but what actually happened was a kingfish followed my hooked cuta right up to the surface, I left it swimming there for a bit then before I know it the kingy strikes at the jig in the cuta's mouth, somehow knocks it of the jig and hooks itself and takes a few good runs. I know it's hard to believe but I asure you this is what happened (the video up the top shows the kingy I caught... if it works... first time posting a video)

    post-14559-128247386507_thumb.jpg

Overall it was a great day considering we only got one kingy and at least when we wern't catching fish the whales and dolphins kept us entertained with their arial displays.

    Cheers, Prawn Star :1fishing1:

    G'day Prawn Star,

yes mate just like Kiwi Waynie said, we were out there and you weren't wrong about the weather reports, about 4km from the mark swell was hitting 2.6m easily and blowing about 20knots,but with the hope it was going to drop off and get the weather we wanted we kept going.Day ended up perfect for the run home, travelling at nearly 35knots all the way home. Unfortunately for all the hard work only one king@ 69cm and a monster trevally caught on a jig, a little disappointing but thats fishing, next time it will be different i hope.

    Dave

  14. Howdy raiders,

Haven't been fishing much lately but the forecast was to good to let another fishingless weekend pass me by.

Went all over the harbour and the colours for zip.

Finally got this little fella down rigging in middle harbour. Probably should have started here in the first place.

Went just under 90cm and weighed in at 5.75kg.

    Cheers

    Dave

Well done Kingiemaster, living up to your name,he's a solid fish

  15. Left rose bay at 6:30am.Dropped the line in only a few miles from the heads as we had plenty of time to reach our destination a few hours before tide.By 12pm we had 10 dollies ranging from 75cm to 100cm. As i began to set up the spread for marlin zzzzzzzzzzz the line i had just put in seconds ago went off (short corner).30 minutes later we had him at the boat. Then again as i was putting the line out within 5 minute zzzzzzzzzzz short corner again.1 hour later he was at the boat with the leader wrapped around its tail which made it hard for us to bring up.What a top day, water temp was 24 degress

    G'day,

Sounds like you indeed had a day to remember on the water mate, well done on your captures, nice feed of dollies and two marlin, does it get any better?

    Dave

  16. Well done mate, just goes to show that your dedication paid off for you.Sometimes you just have to stick to your guns and not move when youv'e got a good cube trail going even if your crew dont understand and are getting a little impatient,i've been in the same situation as you several times, once again well done

    Dave
