  1. thanks glenn, yes it's a terrific hobby or past time mate. i got into photography originally through fishing, snapping our catch some 25 years ago & it grew on me. first thing i pack on a fishing trip is my camera, sometimes getting a nice image is easier than getting a nice fish.

Hey bretto, you may want to rephrase that statement,it's partly correct, you pack the camera but whether you put the card in the camera is a different story. :074:

  2. Top report to open ur account with brother! Well done...

Hope to read many more of ur reports like that!!

    cheers

    Kiro

    Boonga,

Well done mate, great fin, seeing these fish on your post will have everybody excited and starting to get ready for a good season hopefully.Again well done and welcome to fishraider.

    Dave

  3. After a summer full of rat kingies finally managed to land a more respectable pb. Great day out - wind was howling so we had the harbour pretty much to ourselves in the morning

That kingy looks to be in great condition, well done mate, nice fish

    Dave

  4. Thanks very much for your reports kero, roberta & excalibre. im heading up on friday & now im excited with the good reports you have given me, also just checked seabreeze and it doesnt look too bad, just mid strength nor-easters, hope there right.

    cheers brett

    Hey Bretto,

stop looking at seabreeze because the more look at it the worse the weather will turn, and our weekend there full of high hopes will be down the tube.Just keep positive, flat bar, slight breeze, and a few mates taking there boats up for some hot action.

    Dave

  5. Lukeric,

I was going to ask you how have you been, and if anyone has raised any beakies out at the Kiama canyons, but you sounds like you've had your hands full up there in Coffs, sounds like a great trip. I can only hope i have the same success in S.W.R on the 6th feb.Going up with searabbit, and another mate so we'll have three boats covering a bit of ground.Nice big dollie like your beauties will do fine.Well done

    Dave

  6. Well done mate! so this week it i'll be should have been here last week.

Hey raiders this bloke got me on mt first yft, thats karma right there, you deserve that!

Hope i get to fish with you again soon.

    Lata Raida.

    Waynie.

No problems there mate, i'll get you out there again for sure, Searabbit was kicking himself when i told him how good the water was out there on Saturday,he thinks he missed he's opportunity.

  7. Cracking fish, no doubt the quality has improved over the last couple of seasons.

How was he caught? Troll? Cube? 24kg?

Thanks mate, caught on the troll, using 15kg,first fish of the day, so didn't matter what happened for the rest of the day,i was rapt.

    Dave

  8. Nice Fish.. We just don't see enough of the big boys any more..well done

    Ross

Unfortunately that seems to be the case Ross, and you would know that better than the rest of us ,but in saying that these last couple of seasons seem to be an improvement on years gone by.Thanks for your reply Ross i appreciate it coming from a legend.

    post-1999-1225058444_thumb.jpg

  10. Spooled,

The guy who told me that the albacore were off bass point went to Kiama canyons and cubed all day for one small fin about 10kg.

They wont be too far off though.

Let me know if youre out one wend maby meet up one day.

    Will do mate,

Unfortunally due to kids footy presentations and then there baseball this weekend is a total loss on the fishing front, but hey hopefully they will be out there in good numbers the following week.If your going out this weekend i hope you get into them

    Dave

  11. dandas you will find most if not all GPS units store the input data of marks/waypoints etc on the head unit..not the map card...

spooled again, thats a timely reminder for all of us to keep a vigilant eye on our gear as theres always someone game enough out there to sample our hard earned toys :ranting2: ....

at least you still have the head unit with all your fav marks etc...

its something i worry about at times when solo late at night as you see the groups of guys milling around being anoying and its unfortunately gotten alot worse over the last 10 - 15yrs...

i used to fish as a kid on various sydney wharves overnight sometimes solo but these days even as an adult it would worry me at some spots..

as for lost gear at the ramp,i lost a d shackle from my safety chain once (not the biggest thing to lose) but dangerous if you cannot secure boat correctly so now leave it on bow..

have seen guys lose all sorts of gear from trailers etc....

maybe we need some councils to fit cameras at known trouble spots to help with vandalism and theft, prob not likely of importance to local councils though....

    cheers...steve.......

    steve,

Yeah your right i still have all my marks stored in the unit,it was when i entered one of my wayward points i couldn't understand why i couldn't get a gps fix, then i pulled the side plug out ,that's when they would've heard me bellow in Cairns.

    Dave

  12. Did you interrogate the :wife: ?

Maybe you've been spending too much time fishing and not enough time :1pash:

    :tease:

I did ask her Mariner, with toungue in cheek remark and it got the response i thought i'd get.She likes to eat the fish i bring home anyway. It's just disappointing that there are these people out there who believe they dont have to work for anything, especially when you can steal it.

  13. Guys,

I just thought i'd mention something that has happened to me recently and to see if anyone else has had the same thing happen to them. Some sneaky low life has stolen my chip out of my navman depthsounder/gps unit.Went fishing last week , put my sounder on and could't get a gps fix. When i pulled the plug out of the side to my disgust my chip wasn't there. Some c l o w n has stolen it on my last trip at the wharf while i went to get the trailer,it had to happen at the wharf because i went straight home and put the boat in a lock-up garage, and it didnt move till last week.Just wondering has this happened to anybody else?

    Dave

  14. Netic,

Great haul of kingy's mate, always a great read after you've posted. And as usual i was skimming through the post just to get to the ending to see your fish, before going back and examining the post. With the amount of boats in middle harbour this weekend i might head offshore at Terrigal for a spot of jigging, and try for a kingy, they wont stand a chance in the harbour.Once again good to see you posting again :thumbup:

  15. Gee I LOVE Lake Lyell,

We got away a little later than hoped due to i had steped on 4cm of nail at work and also having a wicked flu ment the mrs was demanding no trip the the doc no trip. So sat mornin saw me loading the ute to the gunnels with gear, tinny, fire wood and more.

Got to the lake at about 3pm only to find the spot i had hoped to camp taken by a bunch of rowdy but entertaining bunch of fellas on a boys weekend. So in goes the tinny to start hauling everything to the other side. Givin the wifes quite pregnant i had to do pretty much all the work with her doing as much as she could, i recon shes a bloody legend just for joining me. Didn't get set up til after dark so fishing was gunna wait til morning.

We woke sunday mornin to a steady drizzle, but it just wouldn't be Lyell without it. I was joined by my now rugged up properly Mrs after the coffee had been made, and down to serious fishin now. The first twitch of the rod came at 7.30 then the other rod got a more positive touch at the same time i say to her ready ready NOW and she comes up solid to her first trout. I was a bit disapointed didn't jump for her but it went hard enough on 3kg to give her a good intro all the same. I was a bit nervous as i ready my self with the net but sweet as, strait in and a big goofy smile from the Mrs, a nice hen of 40cm brings a big cheer from the fellas on the other side.

There was a few missed very tentitive bites there after and it wasn't till about 12ish that a rod buckels over releaving me from cooking lunch as a absolute beauty leaps into the air. Luckily it was a very slugish fight cause about 4m up from the fish ther was a big stick now caught up in the line, so i call for help from the Mrs only for the line to somehow get transfered from the stick to her finger as the fish jumped. Luckily all came sorted and i slid the net under this big buck rainbow 54cm.

    post-4283-1213077383_thumb.jpg

    Choice!

Was a bit quiet after that with a couple of about 30 cm fish realeased (they looked so small by then). At about 4.30 pm PJ Garn turn up to bunk in for the night, with all his stuff carted over it was around the camp fire with a port and a cigar to contemplate what all the poor pepole were doing tonight.

    post-4283-1213081256_thumb.jpg

Next morning saw the three of us keen as tending our rods for some very tentitive bites. Given things were a bit slow a couple of about 30 cm fish caught by my wife found there way to the esky. Around mid day PJ Garn andi went for a blat in the tinny only too return to see my Mrs holding the landing net aloft with another 40cm hen. With storys of how this one put on a good airial display and how the trace broke as she netted it in in near mid air we all got back to the job.

    post-4283-1213079022_thumb.jpg

A few small fish followed mostly to PJ Garn with him reluctantly keeping a 30cm fish. Pulled the pin about 4.30 tired, dirty but satisfied. Got to say it was the slowest old ducks birthday weekend i have fished but with all the small fish in the lake it holds good for the future if the water stays up.

    Lata Raidas.

    Waynie

Well done waynie ,the missus has done a great job ,not just the fishing side of things, but for driving up there and camping all with baby on the way. Some good fish to be had as well.Wonder if the searabbit has seen your post yet,on thursday he was contemplating on going with you.

    Dave

  16. Great work Dave. It sounds like you had an awesome day!

Can't complain about three fin like that!

I've never caught a YFT so I'm very jealous.

    Cheers

    Peter

By the way, how many blocks of pillies would take out with you for cubing?

Also, did you troll at all?

    peter ,

trolled from the 500 fathom out to 1000 where the water hit 20.3 and then cubed. Only managed a couple of stripy's,but they cubed up beautifully.we used about 15 kg of pillies, the fin were full of them.

  17. post-1999-1211863780_thumb.jpgHI guy's

With all the fin around at the moment i had to get out there, arrived at the boat ramp to great conditions and the anticipation trebled for those on board as you got the feeling it was going to be a good day.About 10.00am we arrived at our spot water temp. reached 20.2 then stayed at that so we decided to start the trail, took a while but fin showed up at about 10.45,had a screamer of a run then hook pulled for some reason, disappointed but at least now we knew they were in the area. The next hit us at 11.30 and it was all hands on deck as the 2nd rod goes off. By 12.30 we had our third in the boat,we decided that was enough for the day and a long trip home we turned around and pointed fo shore. The fish went 27.5 ,28 and 38kg.

    Dave

  18. Lukeric,

is your boat completely silver or polished aluminium,if so i think it might of been you i past yesterday when i was heading wide off shellharbour. We managed three fin ourselves all from 11.30 till 12.30, then headed in at 1.00 doing 27.5 knts all the way in water was sensational.

    well done on the fin.
