    Makocraft

greetings i had a large 6m stessl and it was superb. I regularly keep in touch with the guy i sold it to, and he is estatic over it. i have high regard for the stessl boats and the new mako ones, quintrex. bluefin, trailcraft, stacer, sea jay, allycraft etc etc are great boats, in fact i feel aussie aluminium boats cant be beat. i have placed an order for my new mako craft, and it should be available within a couple of months. ilk
  2. congratulations a great fish, definitely makes the trip to browns worth while, incidently can you tell me how big is your boat and do you go to browns often, how does it handle the conditions. also how long did it take you to land the yellow fin, thanks ilk
  3. guys have any of you moored an aluminium boat. what are the corosion disadvantages (if any) , can they be easily overcome, ilk
  4. Greetings all regarding salmon not tasting good, just try the follow recipe, you will never pass by another salmon again. in a bowl, have prechopped fress tomatoes, in very fine pieces, in it add some salt, crushed fresh garlic, and finely chopped onions. place a few table spoons of vegetable oil in a large chinese wok, heat it up real good. Then add in quickley your diced salmon pieces (roughly one inch squares). as soon as these salmon pieces get white, quikly add in your bow of tomatoes, onions and garlic, stir this for a few minutes, (about 2 minutes), then take off and serve. the trick to this method, is that it a quick cook up, so the salmons natural oil, will not overcook and become bitter, nor would the tomatoes, try it, you will absolutely love it. regards ilk
  5. Greetings Fishraiders Tried Watsons bay baths, for great results of leather jackets. found the ultimate rig , is to basically use a very soft rod blank of around 10 to 12ft, place an eye on the the end of it, and from it, tie about 2 feet of 6lb nylon, then tie a pencil float or something similar (very light float), then off the end of the float tie off enough nylon, so the whole rig will span the length of the blank, attach just enough split shot to keep the float just on the surface (ps keep the split shot towards the hook end), the hook can be either a size 12 short or long shank. believe it or not, I hardly had any cutoffs with the short shank. (if you can get thin size 12 or smaller short shanked fly hooks, its better) ilk
  6. Greetings, For distance casting, what i do , is to use a 50lb dacron leader , 12lb nylon line, stiff rod and massive sinker My main line would be 10lb as this would handle most tailor and salmon, (as long as you play them) If your rod is around 12foot, use about 18ft of dacron, around the 50lb breaking strength. With a fine needle, weave the nylon through the centre of the dacron, occasionally the nylon will exit, its ok, re enter it into the dacron again and continue. run a sinker on to this dacroned nylon attach the end to a swivel, then a small trace and then your ganged hooks. at the top where the nylon entered the dacron, bind it down and put some super glue. you will find that when about to cast , that some of the dacroned nylon would be over the spool of your reel a few times, with the stong out dacron, you can really belt into the cast, the results are absolutely amazing. ilk
  7. Greetings, Last night at high tide, I went passed pier 9, to my surprise, heaps of bream were caught by the anglers there. next morning got there, and berlied under the pylons, with good effect, landed six very good bream in no time. Also say a king go passed, as well as very large bonito, patrolling the area. PS, during the weekend, apparently most of the parking bays are off grounds to parking between 11pm and 6am, so check out the fine print on those parking sign posts. regards ilk
  8. Greetings fishraiders Tried for salmon yesterday late afternoon. No results but the scenery was quite good. The guys at the Northern end on the large rock platform did ok. There were about 7 of them, and they each got between 2 to 4 salmon. however they were taking quite a risk as the waves were coming over the platform. On the beach there seemed to be millions of sand crabs, destroying the baits, so for a while I tried to free float my ganged pilchards out through the rip, again no takers. I caught and released on of those crabs, their body was the size of a hand, I wonder if they would make very good bait for jewfish, (just like red crabs and groper ) ???? ilk
  9. well done, proves if you put effort in your fishing, land based can give good results ilk
  10. Going beach fishing, probably at Garie or stanwell park beach, high tide is late in the evening, should be good
  11. Greetings Planing to make a trip to one of these southern beaches on Sunday, as high tids is late in the afternoon. has any one got any recent tips and suggestions. regards ilk
  12. Greetings Fishraiders Made a few trips to botany bay and picked up some nice bream. I find I either have to really pelt out the baits as far from the boat as possible or just float them right next to the boat. They are my most prolific ways of cathing bream Baits always green prawns. I was fishing mostly in the middle of the bay over sand. Incidently I caught quite a few whiting which I have been told are winter whiting. They have light brown streaks on their sides. Does anyone know about them, and what would be there legal size. ilk
  13. frigate fillets turn out to be exceptional for sushi, just keep them in good condition from the time you catch them, you wont be dissapointed (as long as you like sushi)
  14. Greetings all Just got a job lined up in Weipa, it will be for nearly 2 months starting from early december. Planning to specialise in fishing the main jetty there. I was there a few years ago. Fishing is sensational. Anyone wanting detailed reports regarding the jetty fishing up there, during that time, they will be more than welcomed to drop me a line. regards
  15. from sydney to proserpine airport (whitsunday coast). then its $15 to airlie by shuttle bus or shared taxi
  16. greetings fishraiders had a great time at airlie beach last week. the weather was absolutely perfect. on a bit of a budget so i just did a bit of land based fishing. used the old wooden wharf to catch my squid at shute harbour, apparently its out of bounds to fishing, didnt realise until someone told me. , but most of the locals use it for squiding nonetheless. there were also lots of herring, it was impossible to get them on bait, locals get them via a cast net. caught the last bus back to airlie beach, at the backpackers/magnums lots of fun and drinking, very good crowd. went to able point marina well before sunrise, used my new shimano jig stick, its rated to 5kg test drag, it seperates just above the reel seat hence its a great travel rod, matched with my full metal pen 6500 spinfisher (10kg maxima, spooled on real tight), i lobbed out my freshly caught squid. had a very large trevally on within minutes. overall airlie is a great destination, the fish dont jump on your line as they do up in weipa, but if you put in a good effort with fresh bait and at the right times, you will get good diividends. I will seriously be checking out air fares with jet star, apparently they are now $85 each way on many flights, if this continues, I might even get a small tinnie and leave it up there, possibly a ten footer, as you really dont need to travel too far from the shore for decent fish. r
  17. hi be very careful with molineux point. those large man made blocks are very steep, its very easy to fall in between them, potential of serious injuries are very high. further there are many large wave crashing into it, its just too unpredictable a good land based place in botany bay, is called browns rock. its just east of bare island past those two beaches. go to matraville bait and tackle they will give you good instructions how to get there. likely species are kingfish jewfish(when its very rough) bream salmon tailor etc. regards 0
  18. Greeting all fishraiders With airfares on special, i got a trip to airlie beach for 109$ each way, which is a bargain. apparently now, its gone down to $85 each way. i will be there from the 3rd of september planning to mainly fish the shore, as apparently theres good prospects for giant trevally. if all goes well , i wouldnt mind planning another trip there, but this time i will do some research on camping in one of the many island national park camp sites. so far i know that a boat company does the regular rounds of dropping off and picking up campers at very reasonable rates. if any one has had any experience from airlie and or whitsundays it would be nice to hear from them regards ilk
  19. Hi in regards to open boats, i had a very large stessl, i found it to be exceptional in every situation. they definitely make an open 6.4m boat, if you ask for it to be as basic as possible, the price will be absolutely affordable, I guarantee you. that boat went brilliantly with a 75ph. if you need more info on it. do reply. i believe that i have a lot of knowledge on them. regards
  20. hey pretend fisherman you sound like a backstabbing coward if it really bothered you , why didnt you mention something at the very begining maybe some of the those undersize fish could have been spared i am sure they wouldnt have punched you get real, and get over it ilk
  21. try south sydney amateur fishing club, they are at corner of macquarie and hastings st at the suburb of chifley which is next to matraville, they are a top club, both ansa and fca afiliated, they regularly hold sydney comps with hundreds of participants from lots of other clubs. they meet every wednesday, for a social, and the actual official meeting is the first wednesday of the month from seven thirty pm. i gaurantee you that you will be impressed with their achievements, and definitly worth driving there
  22. tailor are a great fish to eat. Rember to always keep them in good condition, from the very start ie. place them in iced seawater with blocks of ice as soon as they are caught. I have mine filleted, no bones or skin. place them in a pot of water that has already had some rice (tea cup) and risoni (looks like rice, buts its pasta) boiled earlier, then let the tailor fillets simmer under a low boiling heat. at end throw in squashed tomataoes and garlic, and some olive oil,, drain most of the boiled water, and yu would end up with one of the most tastiest dishes ever. good apetite
  23. Wakeup All that cost for some small reefs, just think about it. Maybe one day, fisheries can come up with some decent idea. But then again, all of those costly reefs or rubble, would suit the divers setting off from the nearby bare island area. I really had enough of these ivory tower public service fools. ilk
  24. I am all for it, need more of them reefs in the bay. However I am also going to write a letter to fisheries, to firstly support them for what they are doing, but also, to let them know that as custodians of our fishing licence revenues they must install these reefs at fair expenses, and that they should make an effort to find equivalent methods or resources in maximising our funds . I will be fuming if these patented rock balls cost a billion million dollars, when at the end of the day, heaps of cheaper alternatives are on hand ??? ??? ?? PS PS Apperantly HMAS Canberra is being planned to be towed in from Perth after it has been stripped down, and sunk as an artificial reef in a to be decided choice of a few spots off NSW, (this has info has been sourced from the Sydney Morning Herald) NOW THATs A REEF
  25. PS Is this a fishing or report ?? Or are you some type of politician, trying to explain your views. Please look around the fishraider site for the appropriate section, thanks
