The day started at Tunks Park boat ramp at 5am. A quick launch and out to Balmoral bait grounds. The Lowrance showed bait fish everywhere and within 10 minutes three of us had filled the live-bait tank with medium sized yakkas. Those small ones are hard to come by at the moment.
Fished North head for two hours for zip. Anchor got stuck and rope snapped trying to retrieve. There goes my $300 Sarca Excel. It was only 4 weeks old....
... I really need to buy a reef pick.
Without an anchor we were destined for a day of drifting and trolling. Caught bucket loads of pinkie snapper off the bottom of South-Head with two going over 40cms. Drifted live yakkas, and brought in several huge squid but were unable to net them, and they had no interest in my squid jigs. Eventually I pulled a jig apart and tied the spiky bit onto a half eaten yakka. That got one in the boat.
Also had a mammoth Sgt Baker take a live yakka... never seen that before.
Then fished the Quarantine station for several undersized flat head and 1 legal at 44cms and 2 flounder just over 30cms.
Trolled a couple of 12cm Yo Zuri lures from the quarantine station, to north head out and around the coast to Manly then back again. One hit off the NH point that ran before chucking the treble then nothing.
Finally headed home about 2.30pm with a feed of snapper, flathead, flounder and calamari, all caught on fresh peeled prawns.
No Kings but not bad anyway, and the yakkas were released to be Kingy-food another day.
Im out most weekends in Aquaholic so if you see me say hi.
Cheers,
Cam
