Yeah had the same problem, could not raise a livie if you paid me, none in the burly trail and none boated. I gave up by 8.30 and decided to use the old squid and pillies i had. Lets hope they return soon Cheers

Thanks hooked4life i was stoked with my first Jew, at least it was leagel size. Yes the crashpad is great but a bit thirsty on fuel, twin 165hp to keep the crashpad moving, 40L/hour @ 20knots but great to have a bit of space. Its a Bertram 25 Corsair, not the fly bridge. Cheers

Hi All, Hit the water for new years eve, decided to bring the rods as the and i were staying on the boat for a few days after new years and what a good idea that was. We dropped anchor between Fort Denison and the Zoo about 7.30pm and had a few My mate Neil decided to wet a line and in went the bait jig, one baby snapper and then a livie ..... yee haa I grabbed the Penn 850 and attached the leader, Neil attached the sinker and on went the livie and sent him down to 800mm off the bottom. About 40 mins later i am checking the line and the livie was still going strong .......... 5 mins later Neil yells "the rod" and i grab it and we call it as a Jewie, a few runs and he was boated. Hi all, Went for a lazy afternoon fish at Cockatoo island and to my surprise i landed a rat king on a pillie. I caught a 40cm plus Trevor there a few weeks ago and that got me thinking maybe i could get a king and today i did, although it was a rat i was happy to see them so far this side of the bridge. Good news for me because it is only 10mins from my mooring on my way to the main harbour, looks like i will be fishing there on my way home each time Sorry no pic, cant find the cable for my phone Cheers Ben

Was fishing from the boat with no weight and i am a bit of a lazy fisherman to tell you the truth and just drop it straight down ..... or float down the burley trail in this case. My rods spend most of there time in the back of my ute so that will give you some idea of how much care i take of them ....... want to chase some YFT and kings this summer so i better get serious and rig up the new TLD25

Thanks guys, he put up a good fight similar to a king. Caught a few last weekend near the heads and they were a good size but not a good as this one. The was impressed and wanted to keep it but i said no as it was caught west of the bridge, she said whats the point of fishing if you cant keep em ......... i did not bother explaining ..... Cheers

Went for a lazy fish with the just after the lunch time high tide at Cockatoo Island. Droped anchor (with the new winch, what a dream) and got the burley trail going, sent out a lightly weighted bit of pillie and put the rod in the holder. Within a few mins the rod goes off and i am doing my best to keep the line away from the props as it put up a good fight and a nice trev was boated. They went off the chew after that but that was my PB Trev of at least 40cm i think, sorry did not measure him. Cheers Ben

As the others have stated chack and see if there is enogh room to mount it and if there is then you can reinforce the deck with a piece of timber underneith, does not need to be fibreglassed in. Looking at a pic of your boat i cant see how you will fit it ? I dont hink you have the room, you need 400mm below the underside of the deck to allow enough room for the rope and chain to fall. You also need a flat area to mount it. I am fitting a Muir Storm 850 winch to my Bertram 25, all i need to do now is connect all the wiring, fit the switch at the helm and i am ready to go. I have a 170hp Volvo inboard 6cyl late 60s early 70s in a 21ft half cab and it is very strong, one thing i like is the volvos have the sea water impeller pump on the motor compared to Mercs have them in the leg so you need to take the leg off each time you need to replace the impeller. It has 1100 hours on it and thats when the clock stopped working so it would have a few more on it now and still going strong. Even when they are not running properly you will always get home, i have never been towed home. Inboards are easier to work on in the water than an outboard if you have a problem, i also have a Bertram 25 with twin 165hp inboard Mercs and they go good, they should they have just been rebuilt . A few things to check: 1. Check that the Gimbal bearing is ok by going for a test drive a turn left and right and listen for a bearing noise (like a trailer wheel bearing noise). If there is a noise then the leg needs to come off and replace the bearing in the transom housing (not in the leg). A small amount of bearing noise is ok especially at full lock. 2. Check that the rubber bellows are in good nick, if they leak then you will need to replace the gimbal bearing. 3. Check for movement in the lower drive shaft by holding the prop and moving left to right. If all of the above are ok then it should be fine, just listen for any strange noises and the usual visual checks and it should serve you well. Cheers Ben
