  1. What sort of hard bodies did they respond to, Dan? Neil.
  2. I can offer some advise (in case u don't get any offers to show u what to do). Most beaches will hold fish which are feeding on other fish, crustaceans, etc. Check out youTube for how to identify gutters...these are deeper water channels which will usually have fish feeding in them. Basically, the waves form as they hit shallower water beneath them so gutters are identified by the break in wave formation. Best times are early morning and late evening (darkness encourages fish to feed usually). Gang hooks with full pilchards work well but u need to berley regularly. I usually cut a pilchard into 4 then throw these into the wash where I'm fishing, fairly regularly. You really just have to plod on and u will get fish. U can also use a paternoster rig with a full pilchard on a gang hook close to the sinker and maybe have a smaller hook a bit higher up with worms, pippies, or other bait to improve ur chances. Make sure your sinker holds ur bait where you cast and you should get some fish. Fishing is a game of patience...good luck, Neil.
  3. Don't forget it's closed season for Cod...good luck. Worms and (even better) small yabbies r best for yellas. Neil.
  4. I need to have my 3 manual inflation PFD 1 serviced as they are out of date and I don't want to fork out for 3 new ones. There is nobody (I can find) in the Riverina who can do this. I will be going over to Kiama in a few weeks, if anybody knows of somebody close to there. If not I can always mail them to a qualified business for service. Hope somebody can help. Neil.
  5. Hi Luc, congrats on ur 1st trout. Mate of mine who is a very keen trout fisher loves Tassie Devils but makes a few alterations which improve his hook up rate. He takes the wire out and runs his line through the lure with a red bead in front and behind the actual lure. He also replaces the treble hook with a pair of staggered single hooks. Worth considering, he has caught many a decent trout over the years. Cheers, Neil.
  6. Well done, gr8 report. Would have got the adrenaline going...Neil.quote]
  7. ...Or maybe some people, like myself, want to do the right thing but genuinely can't negotiate their way round modern technology as well as their younger counterparts...fair go.
  8. I've got a few impoundments close by which I would like to try. Need advice on methods ,lure types, etc for catching Redfin.... Neil.
  9. [Hi Honk, Use all the advice you've been given re pillies, gang hook rigs, star sinkers and poppers. I always use pillies chopped up for burley, throw a few in fairly regularly...this will set up the action and bring the fish to you. Pre dawn and post dusk always seem to work well...sometimes overcast days help too. Hang in and you'll get into them soon, mate. Neil.
  10. [Gr8 yarn Tony, hope u all get to do it again soon. Neil.
  11. Yep and the wind probably deterred a few too.
  12. Recently had a week in Merimbula, an area I'd never fished before. Got some good local knowledge from Jewstalker and we managed a few hrs on the sandflats of the Bega River together. We managed to score a few flatties. I spent the next few days exploring Pambula lake and managed some nice bream, flatties and trevally, though the wind made fishing very difficult. Heard there were some whales frollicking off the Main Beach at Merimbula so went down for a look. Great to see these huge mammals playing just offshore. While there I happened to notice the potential in a few well-defined gutters so decided to have a few hours fishing early next morning, before light. Caught quite a few Salmon including a monster just under 4 kgs...next morning I managed a 3kg plus model from the same gutter. All in all a very worthwhile trip and I didn't even get to explore Merimbula Lake. Looks like another visit is in order. Big Neil.
  13. Decent flattie mate. Well done. Neil.
  14. Very clever and shows the gullibility of fishos. Lucky for us that fish can't read or access this site, haha.Big Neil.
  15. Hi Alby, I thought a few of those replies were abrupt and not really indicative of most Fishraider site users. I have fished at Cape Jervis and caught plenty of fish, mainly King George whiting and Snapper. Although this is only a few hrs South of Adelaide, I'm sure you will find other areas closer. I'm assuming you have a small boat, so just be careful to pick a calm day with good weather forecast, leave the boat ramp and return during daylight hours. Some launching places you may need to consider the tide height for launch and retrieve, though this is not as important for a small boat, as a big one. I find the fishing great in SA and we come over there each year. Cheers Neil.
  16. Glad ur making a good recovery. Looking fwd to catching up ,if possible, in July. Cheers, Neil.
  17. Hi Pete, maybe u can let me know how u go? Cheers Neil.
  18. Hi Luc, wow thanks for the in depth info on ur home territory. Can't wait to get there now...u got me revved up. Don't have a GPS capability in my little tinny but just cruise an area looking for drop offs and usually observe a likely spot at low tide for signs of habitation. I do have a depth sounder and use it to help find likely spots. Haven't been using soft plastics for long but love covering lots of territory using different types and retrieves. If u would like to give me ur mobile we may even catch up for a session. Gr8 thing about this site is that everybody is so helpful. Cheers Neil. Now how many sleeps till....lol.
  19. Hi Battler, I don't get to the coast very often and usually go to Batemans Bay or Tuross. I tend to steer away from mags because they fill me with the desire to get away regularly and that frustrates me cos I don't have the resources or time to do so. I do love every time I manage to get to the coast as I get a bit fed up catching Carp in the Bidgee. Thanx for replying, I appreciate it mate. .
  20. Hi Jewstalker, my daughter and son in law have shouted my wife and I a week in Merimbula early July. I have a 12ft tinnie suited to estuary fishing which I am planning to bring with me. I enjoy soft plastic and bait fishing, also vibes. Have heard that there's a big lake connected to the sea (tidal) which sounds very promising. Do u have any info which would be of help in locations for flatties, bream or whiting. Also like to break things up with a bit of beach fishing for tailor, salmon, etc. Thanx 4 ur reply, Neil.Just saw that u had put another post up with good info. Can I obtain a descriptive map of the area so I can identify the places u have suggested? Thanks again.
  21. Any F/R have information on river /estuary fishing at Merimbula in Winter? Neil.
  22. Good to see my Carp fishing is having an impact, haha.
