  1. Hi Raiders, Working on the lower Nth Shore has some advantages even when I live out near Liverpool. It makes for the perfect excuse to pack some gear on a Friday & take the opportunity for a detour on the way home. The thinks it's a good idea too which is great news. I usually throw a line in down at Greenwich near the Sailing Club & watch the sun set & the city lights come on while tryng to catch SOMETHING but that is not the aim of my Friday evening sessions. Good thing too becuse I've never had much luck. However yesterday I thouht things had changed when on my first cast a nice 25cm bream scoffed the nipper I had thrown out. Great I thought I'm finally going to have some luck with the fish. But it was not to be. 2 1/2 hours later & even though I'd fed them pretty well no other fish wanted to take the hook. Not to worry. After a chat to a 3 or 4 guys who regularly turn up on Fridays I found out I wasn't alone in the no fish dept. Looks like they weren't worried about that either though as catching fish on their Friday evening sessions is just considered a bonus. It's more about the peaceful relaxation of just baiting a hook brings after a week working in the hussle & busstle of our biggest city. How bloody fantastic is it that we can so easily wander down to the best harbour in the world & do just this. Catching fish is just makes it that little bit more memorable.
  2. CFD, Thanks with some luck I"ll give that a go this arvo. Hopefully will be wetting a line in the harbour from McMahons Point or around Grenwhich somewhere.
  3. CFD, Currently running Sufix Matrix Pro in 10lb weight. It cost around $50 for 250m. Seems to work well but as I said I'm very new to this stuff. Any opinion on whether is is good, bad, or indifferent quality? The usual set up I'd use if running mono would be main line with sinker, swivel then fluro leader. And thanks to evetone for the advice. This is a great site with extremely friendly knowlegable memebers willing to share advice & experiences.
  4. Hi Raiders, I'm pretty new to this fishing business but am enjoying every chance I get to wet a line. But I need some help/advice on this braid stuff. I have one rod that I use for most applications, an Ugy Stick Light 6'6" with a Shimano something reel loaded with 8lb braid. Bloody wonderful stuff it is too. You can feel every little touch on your bait or SP. The question I have though is I've been told you can't have a running sinker set up with braid as the sinker will pretty quickly stuff the braid resulting in a bust off when I fianlly do hook a fish. Is this the case & if so what rig should I use in place of the running sinker rig? Or should I go back to mono? Or should i have a second combo set up with mono for when I want to bait fish? Most of my fishing so far has been in BB & the Georges River so there is a mix of bait & SP fishing. Any advice will be apreciated.
  5. Thanks James, As it happens she did have her drag set reasonable heavy so maybe your right. She allways tells me mine it set too light but I have never been snapped off like that. Then again it was the first time we have ever had a bait taken like thet too. She is loaded with 8lb braid & ususally runs a 12lb leader on a 6'6" Maple something rod. Nice light set up for a lady to handle & she usually does very well out fishing me on every trip but one. Any advice is always welcome tho & thnks.
  6. Hi Raiders, A new memeber & my first post. Put in at GRNP ramp at about 10am. A late start I know but when you don't have to get up for work & it's the middle of the week why rush when you know there will be hardly a boat on the water. was at the helm as usual & we motored sedatley towards Lugarno & anchored in about 11feet of water in a nice spot that looked good for a few bream but even if there was nothting on the bite who cared, I wasn't sitting in an office. So we burleyed up & put some nippers on to see if we could manange to catch anything. A few bites & some lost bait & eventually a few nice sized bream showed up. Over a period of a few hours we managed to land 6 good looking bream ranging from 25 to 30cm. As usual the out fished me both in number of fish & variety but I was lucky enough to hook the biggest of the day while the rod was in the rod holder & I was tying a new leader becasue the had just been smoked by something that grabbed her prawn & took of like a rocket headed for Botany Bay. I recon it was something big as it snapped the 12lb leader in a couple of seconds as it took line at a rate of knots. In additon to the bream we landed a 27cm flathead a small flounder & a yakka that was about 20cm. All in all a great day even if it was a bit windy at times but as I said........ who cares cause I wasn't at work.
