  1. Went out sunday arriving at browns after 1pm, took my dad, my bro and my son and battled the slop and tried to have a bash at browns. It was blowing a gale and trying to get to the bottom was not easy. We did manage to catch a uncommon fish called an OPAH . Opah are a pelagic that hang with marlin and tuna but have been caught down deep also. They are very nice eating and are held in high regard by Tuna pros that occasionally catch them on their long lines and they fetch very good prices at market and turn up at nice restaurants on their CATCH OF THE DAY menus. Anways, thought i'd share it with you guys & gals just in case you catch one and thought to yourself instead of Opah, or Moonfish cheers changa
  2. Shane, that will be a change from your new boat Good luck and see you on fri or sat nite for beers changa

  4. Yes, fishing starts tonite at 6pm. last i saw the entrants list was over 700 and coming thick and fast(but that was 2 weeks ago and we get heaps in the last week or so. Good luck to all fishing, i may get out for a couple hours but nothing serious due to setting up for weigh in etc. Come say hello, have a chat and a beer. its gonna be a great day. Everyone is welcome to come along to the weigh in, not just entrants. If you never been in a comp or been part of one, then come along and have a look. its HUGE and heaps of fun. we even have jumping castles etc for the little ones which should keep the happy changa
  5. Out of the 8 australian records 4 wahoo, sydney/botany hold 4 of them with the biggest being 44kg(thats just on 100lbs ) I caught a 100lb'er non 24kg(possible record fish) in cairns one year and it was a whopper. Wahoo have super vision and a think they can see badly rigged hooks. hiding hooks in rigs works well for them and mostly twin hook rigs are better. Sydney has experienced a good wahoo bite this year with many reports of captures. changa
  6. Hey moonie, wish you told us earlier(i know its prolly not your fault) but i reckon i could have got a swag of entrants for him. Bit late now but i will spread the word. Is there any other outlets for entries? changa
  7. Red, i think you missed your calling. You are a great presenter and should do more of it. Cant wait for the next one!! Online, great to meet you mate. you have to stop drinkin that light beer, it will kill ya changa
  8. Kingy, why cant you make it to pitt town? We dont start them too early which allows people time to travel. I regulary travel to Sydney game club which takes me longer to get to than collaroy changa
  9. Hey moonie, i take it you heard about the 42kg jew caught last week in the hawkesbury? now thats a CRACKER !! changa
  10. Red, I would personally like to thank you for a great night and a fantastic presentation and talk. As someone that doesnt target Jew much nowdays(moreso because i have 4 kids and chase marlin more...lol) but used to fish for jew a lot with some of the best jew fishos around, i learnt plenty. I reckon the day you stop learning is the day you hang up your rod. Forms will be on their way to your house soon mate. For those interested, some up coming events are: CRABBING the ins and outs of how to catch truckloads of blue swimmers and muddies. Also, MONSTER SNAPPER !! yes, that right, there is huge snapper off sydney and We have the gun fisho talking that catches them. Also, as winter get closer, we will be having a YELLOWFIN NIGHT on how, when and where to catch these golden beauties. then as winter closes we will be into gamefishing stuff like MARLIN,DOLPHIN FISH etc. rigging for them, lures, live baits the do's the donts and many more. We will keep you posted. changa
  11. This is no DVD or charter operator makin a dollar as a showman. Its a local RAIDER that has caught many thumpers(more than most) that may just give you an edge next time you fish for them. If you can make it, see you there
  12. Hello raiders, If you are into Jews, and more importantly, MONSTER JEWS then you really need to find out some secrets from a well respected JEW fisho. Tonite and tonite only, he will be giving away a few tips and secrets. If you are interested in attending it will be at Pitt Town fishing Club inside the sporting club. 139 Old pitt town Rd Pitt Town (same place where the HAWKESBURY CLASSIC weigh in is held) Entry is only a gold coin donation. I know its last minute but things have been real busy. If you like you can email or PM me with confirmation or call me on 0408 46 49 45 regards changa
  13. Glenn, great fish mate, wherever it come from Keep at it, great to see good fish around this time of year. Red, time for a few beers at night ? changa
  14. Davy, the fish you speak of is an amberjack. People always confuse ambers and sampsons when juveniles. Moonlite, nice fish! What a bonus. Certainly wouldnt be whinging about that bycatch changa
  15. I used to love fishing spencer. There is some crackin holes there and some real good country. The biggest jew we pulled outta there was only about 8kg but it always had good variety. Also had its share of big pikes and rays too. We had a place there we called 'LIGHTNING' simply coz it used to go off a lot. changa
  16. We caught a big bull (approx18kg) last week and when cleaning it, what was inside? a dolly the same size as the one in this thread changa
  17. Mick, i have fisher there for many years targetting marlin, tuna, flatties, kings, Jew,bream, whiting etc. What sort of boat do you have and what are your target species? Boat launching will be dependant on what your target species are. For river species and inshore/offshore fishing you will have to launch in the macley river main ramp. Fishing offshore you can also launch from back creek ramp if you have a smallish vessell (say under 5m) and you dont have to contest with a bar that can sometimes get nasty. changa
  18. Hey moonlite, i may be a little biased, but the hawkesbury classic is the ORIGINAL hawkesbury river comp. It was started 15 years ago with the aim to help charity. Since then, there are many clubs/groups organisations that have not only tried to duplicate it, but they have actually reprinted HAWKESBURY CLASSIC entry forms using their wording/format etc. Since its inception 100% and i mean 100% of proceeds goes to charity. Not some or half or a percentage. The hawkesbury classic is also the biggest dedicated estuary comp in OZ. There is no bigger. So, to be crowned winner of the hawkesbury classic is a very great honour. Regardless of who runs it or who does the MC job on the day etc. FOr those who have fished it for a long time, you may remember that We did have the HI TIDE crew doing the MC job but sort of fell thru when we had a MAJOR SPONSOR change. As you know, Alan blake works on 2ky so our chances of having them do the MC job was not that great. Anyways, thats a little bit of history..............lol Good luck to Riverstone(they have some great characters in their club) and i hope the day went well and that they raised heaps for a good cause. Bring on November i say!! changa

    Dioxin Jew

Nice fish my fine friend. I have heard the harbour has been smokin for jews of late. I must dust off my jew stick seeing as though the marlin have eluded me for the past 2 outings. Then again, there is my trusty golf clubs that need a well deserved run Maybe i should meet you at the secret harbour spot. changa
  21. When in Cairns this year we had dinner at a small bowling club that we vist a couple times a year. My brother ordered half a dozen oysters killpat%%%%% and a steak as he had not eaten there before. I told him he would not eat it and he is a BIG eater. Well, the oysters came and 6 of them filled a large dinner plate. He proceeded to eat them and gave me one which had to be eaten with 2 bites(mouthfulls). Needless to say he didnt eat all of his steak and on our return trip thru the town guess what we all ordered.......... No main meal just a dozen oysters each The oysters were biggest i have ever seen and as oyster/seafood lovers of all types, i know a good oyster and we all debated the PACIFIC;/other oyster debate but these were so tasty it really made us think. Still dont know where they get them from but they are the best i have ever had FULLSTOP. I had a fresh one also that had that real SEA taste..YUM changa
  22. Bung, you mean even Julian didnt I.D the fish from the pics? sheeez!! must be difficult when they are that small. Still, its a billfish, and a cute one.... changa
  23. Bung, interesting pics. I have seen the sails on juvenile marlin, but not with the long pevic fins(if you can call them that) like in that link. Now you got me thinking. ANyone heard from Dr Pepperell? Wish i had caught the little blighter. its an awesome fish. I once caught a port jackson shark that i could sit on the palm of my hand. it was so cute. I saw it swimming and netted it, took a couple pics and released it. changa
  24. Port is going off with bills as we speak. Im sure they will hang around for another week or so. If anyone is interested in entering a great fun comp where all proceeds go to charity, please let me know asap as time is running out. changa
  25. Phar cue, Great report mate and some top pics. I think that althoough tiny marlin also have a sail instead of a defined dorsal fin, the giveaway i think would be the pelvic fins. Nice little sail id say, but, you never know I will be back up at SWR for a few days from the 12th. cant wait! changa
