  1. Lee, i wasnt going to jump in and say anything before, but seeing as though you have the ok, i thought i would add a little. I have used their bait and it dont come any fresher(of course unless you catch your own) Their prawns are direct from the trawler and their squid is great. Of course, they have all your other favourites too thats fresh as can be. I really got sick of buying rubbish bait but now, i dont even bother about catching my own most times, i ust duck into windsor. well worth the trip. See you all at the classic, hopefully we can all catch up for a beer. changa
  2. What goodies you handing out Lee ? changa
  3. Well, i just got back(last friday nite) from Cairns and fishing the ribbon reefs for big black marlin for a week and i am heading back up there sunday for another week. When i return i will try and post a report and some pics. Its awesome fishing up there in your own trailerboat. changa
  4. I have actually heard of some good captures from some of the regualrs to the jew haunts and a hell of a lot changes with the November new moon. So, dont believe everything you hear or want to believe. Some years a 10kg may win it, another it may be a 20kg+. Either way, everyone has the same chances, and as Bashir stated, you only gotta enter to be in with a chance to win a boat worth approx$15,000.00. The best thing about the lucky door prize is, you HAVE to be at the weigh in on sunday which even increases your chances more. If anyone wants an entry form, please PM me and i will send some to you. changa
  5. Harold, those bite offs are very common for TAILOR and the fish dont have to be big to bite off whole baits and they ALWAYS seem to miss the hook As for rigging , I think Rodd is on the money. Twin hook rig, either snelled(sliding) or a simple keeper hook off a tag line. Only thing i do different for the bottom hook is feed it thru the HOOD of the squid 'internally' and come out at the head so no line is visible or able to be caught up etc. changa
  6. Red, you make me laugh mate I had posted this exactly before erasing in my previous post. "Very nice fish, looks all of 18kg, but hard to tell in pics" maybe we are both way off......either way, damn nice fish changa ps. I know its been a long time Red, but i may just have to have a jew bash this season
  7. Simon, i know of a couple of blokes with 140 4st pushing 6m + boats and they can all do a 10-12hr day in under 100lt. If you are worried, take a jerry, but you definately wont need it with a 4st. good luck guys. changa ps. bluecod, i have been here since the site started virtually, just dont post a million times a day. always willing to lend a hand tho as everyone has to start somewhere
  8. Some good traps here and they do work a treat when deployed correctly. If you know here the poddies hand, then you are in an even better position. Dont put the trap where there is current. Look for and eddy and place it in the shallows. I use a 3 litre coke bottle cut the end off and reverse(make opening bigger) and wire or zip tie ( i will attach pic if i can find one) I use bread chunks in the trap, wet them so they can seep out. Large snapper lead in the trap and some line attached to the shore. I then scatter a small amount of crumbs near the trap, sometimes this take a few times to get them on the chew but once they do they go off. By leaving the large chunks of wet bread in the trap, as one enters and starts to feed, it lets more out and the fish really go into a frenzy. I have had coke bottles so full of poddies that there was no room for anymore in there. cheers changa
  9. Bluecod, where we are heading next week is still home to some beauties. Some over the 100lb mark. Id be more than happy with a 50lb'er but the bigger the better Cant wait. changa
  10. ok bluecod, let us have it changa
  11. I think you should have that sorted out in a couple weeks time Red BRING IT ON !!! changa
  12. We always called them soapies to 2-3kg(and you can taste it when you catch one of each size and compare them) Then schoolies up to about 10kg. For me, the over 15kg taste the best.....YUMMO!!! changa
  13. My main goal is to catch Massive marlin from my trailerboat. This will be realised in 2 weeks time when we take her out of cooktown to live on the ribbons and lizard Is for 2 x 8 day stints. I would dearly love to catch a grander(still aint got one over 800 odd lb last 3 years) but you never know, we just may crack it this year, and all the more fun/dangerous/adrenelin pumping in a trailerboat Also like to catch a big Dog tooth whilst up there. Something over 50lb that wants to drill us would be nice. A big queenie and a crackin GT would be a bonus if bigger than my PB but they are not the main target. Hope all your dreams come true people. BUENNA PESCA !!! changa
  14. Gaff, i love patonga, but more for relaxing than anything else........lol Ok, bait is one of the keys to patonga success. Look at the map and you will see # 3 which is just inside the creek and on the northern side(caravan park side) on the incoming tide you will see a big eddy here. Great place for your poddie traps(we get heaps usually). The flats here also have heaps of nippers, so take your pump. I dont know it well upstream but have caught some flatties on SP's up there. We fish the inlet but not when the tide is ripping and have got some good whiting(on nippers) and flatties (on poddies) there. You can see the drop offs etc , so picking the channel is no probs. I sometimes wade over to the centre sand bar and toss SP's or nippers at the moored boats and wharves with some success on bream. changa
  15. Moonlite, if it wasnt me doin it, someone else would mate. Anyways, its nothing without the likes of you guys entering and making it all worthwhile come weigh in time. Darryl, who says you need to weigh in to win a boat and have many beers on a sunday Ben, enjoy your beers on the boat, but just be sure to get a driver to take you on sunday as the party atmosphere is much better and you just need to keep thgem fluids up on a warm day Look forward to meeting you guys there. changa
  16. coach, if you are trailering, you would be better to launch from sydney or botany to go to browns. Browns from botany is less than 20kn(about 37km) Browns from sydney is not a great deal further, just a few mile in it. Browns from the Joey is over 35nm(65km) and is a long haul in a smallish boat. good luck fellas, hope you get into some fin. changa
  17. Ben, great stuff mate, love to see the look on some kids faces when you tell them that you got attacked by a great white in the very beach they just come out of........lol (im just kidding there......lol) As for the classic mate, its a great fun comp, friendly atmosphere and some great prizes. Many a first timer has come away with great prizes. Sheeeeez, just by entering you have a chance to win a boat as a lucky door prize(and you HAVE to be present on the day to win it so chances are very good) In the past our lucky door prize boat has been about $6000.00 worth. this year its a real beauty at approx $15,000.00 worth so someone is going to be VERY VERY happy on the day. Moonlite creeper, thats tops that your mate won the boat. hope he put it to good use. Have to catch up for a beer this year. changa
  18. Dan, hope you dont mind me poking in here. Entry is $20 Entries are available at most tackle stores thoughout sydney metro. Dan, My son took out the 'other species' category last year, he was wrapped as we only had a couple hours to fish due to work and classic committments. Ben, you dont have to be a great fisho to have a good time and 100% of proceeds go to charity. changa ps Moonlite creeper, cant recall meeting you there? have we met?
  19. PML Hey Red, i have some Salter scales, i mightjust start using them.... In all seriousness, Certified scales make a HUGE difference sometimes. I dont trust them spring scales. Only scales i have seen that are close to accurate when weighing fish are the digi ones from berkley(like boga grips) We tested many sets our club purchased against our quality certified scales and they are pretty good. changa
  20. You are spot on there Pete. One thing a camera does not truly show is its BULK. Just another reason why fish measuring in comps should not determin weights (thats prolly another thread ) I will say it again, any jew is a nice Jew, especially when you start getting them over 15kg... YUMMO!!!!!!!! changa
  21. You are right Pete, they are a good indicator. A scale is a scale and they are all pretty close , its only accuracy that costs the big bucks and when social fishin, who cares. I release all my marlin without weighing them so its all the same i reckon. Wether somones Jew is 30kg and i say its 10, or i catch one that i say weighed 20 and you say its 8 dont really matter, they are all good fish and i would NEVER make a bet on weight by lookin at pics but come time in the flesh, and i am usually within a kg or 2. all Jews are good changa
  22. EXACTLY Pete. them scales are NEVER accurate and even worse when kept in such tip top condition like darryls Still, any Jew bigger than a soapy is good chewin, and a good catch. Red, Those that know me know i dont bull@*. I say it like it is, and yep, it even gets me into strife now and again Dont have many jew pics on file here, i will see what i can dig up. changa
  23. Nice Jew Darryl, id say 9-10kg. I like guessing comps. JUst as a matter of interest Pete, what type of scales did you use to weigh the fish? changa
  24. Its an awesome fish, Congratulations mate!! I also believe that big jews eat better than schoolies or soapies. The flanks are LUSH on the BBQ changa
