  1. I'll be giving it another crack tomorrow morning and on Sunday... Best of luck people!
  2. With the wind and temps is it worth going for a prawning session tonight at windang? New moon tonight!! Not sure if it is worth the treck! Cheers, Dale
  3. Yea, I'm considering heading to windang tonight or giving it a go closer, just not sure if it will be worth it'" haha. Cheers, Dale
  4. Hey fishingguy, Cheers mate, I appreciate the help. I went down with a mate to kurnell on Tuesday night and scooped a few small prawns. They were small and I only grabbed a few, so I just released them, I managed to grab a few garfish to (released) and saw a few massive (2m) manta rays! The prawns weren't running but we had fun. Does the rain and weather affect their run much? Cheers for the help! Dale91
  5. Thanks howsy. Bummer I'm going away in a few weeks until feb, going to miss out!
  6. J Thanks guys, yea I've had a few run ins with numb rays in the past, actually stepped on a big one last night. Luckily I had old shoes on! Gonefishing, I mean along the main part of kurnell, not around in quibray bay. Cheers for the heads up though. I definitely don't want to be breaking any laws. They were pretty small Yowie, looking at them you wouldn't think they could fall through but they wiggled their way out. This Friday is actually new moon, am I just being to ambitious? Should I not even bother? Plus what effect will the rain and weather at the moment have in the prawns? Thanks for all your help guys!
  7. Hey guys, I know it's early in the season, but on Monday night I attempted my first ever prawning session. I went down to kurnell a bit after dark and started with my net and light around the west side of silver beach. While I was doing this, my mate was flicking a squid jig around. A few odd prawn were around, however they were pretty small and they kept slipping through my net. My mate failed to grab any squid however their were tonnes of little whiting and stuff. I even managed to scoop up a few garfish which were constantly swimming into our legs. Everything was released as there wasn't enough for a feed or to freeze. So, why did I fail? Was it my experience/technique? Was if the conditions? Was it my location? Cheers for the help guys!
  8. This week is meant to be one of the first of the season for prawning with the waining moon. I know it's still early days, but I'm going away on the 10th of nov for 3 months and don't want to miss out. I have a prawning handheld net and a j shaped underwater light. I'm from cronulla area and was wandering if anyone could advise me where to attempt to catch my first prawn? I've heard you can catch them at kurnell in the opening of the king George's river, not sure about the port hacking. Thanks for the advice guys, really appreciate it!
  9. Ah okay cool I thought it would have been too light. What weight line would you be using?
  10. 2500 reel? That's not too light? I actually have a sienna 2500
  11. Ah k cool, so if I were to use it of the land more should I go for a longer rod paired with the thunnus?
  12. Why can't it cast lures? I'm pretty new to all this, especially heavy gear. Will it limit me to only big stuff like smallish kings or will It give me opportunity to get a wide variety of fish if I'm fishing from land?
  13. Stick to something a bit cheaper It's the thunnus 8000
  14. Roughly* sorry my phone is playing up Should I jump on it or should I dt
  15. I've found a place that's closing down and I can get a thunnus 20% off eg
  16. Sweet thanks bundy, still figuring out my budget so it's really appreciated. Thanks mate
  17. So much help guys and just standard good fishing chat. Im thinking more and more that something between 5000 and 6500 is the go and I have a shimano sienna and love it and their customer service so maybe the sustain is the way to go. Cheers guys!! Really appreciate it !
  18. Haha I'll just have to keep working on it Linc, I consistently get squid, occasionally flattys n bream. She will normally taste it but that's it and will never have it as a meal. Ah well, more for me haha
  19. Paikea I feel for you mate, first time I've cooked them up and now know what I've been missing. The mrs doesn't mind sea food but she has something against eating stuff that I catch, don't get why because It can't get any more fresh
