  1. New boats are overpriced bigtime, would never buy one. Best to buy one 1-2yrs old with low hrs if possible, depreciation is pretty high in this time with most brands.
  2. Well done on hooking a mako, nettic, next to the boat is as good as landing it, it's a pity it chewed up valuable fishing time as most sharks do; anyway a good workout on the gear. Personaly if i hook a shark i just lock up and usually bust off , better off letting them go anyway. Looked as flat as back outhere hoping it stays that way till tuesday.
  3. Good effort on the salmon, i think they are always in that area in the cooler months, it just depends on the boat traffic whether there woking or not.I think there was show on about 10 years ago called wildfish which had a peice on live baiting 2kg salmon by ballon into some really rough country, using marlin gear. the kingies were 20-30kg plus; amazing stuff, i'm pretty sure it was in N.Z.???
  4. Crazyfisher i was near the pool on tuesday morn, couldn't get any yakkas but there was heaps of trevally . I'm sure there would be dory around, if you could catch anything small enough put it out.
  5. sorry guys no photos, i like a splash of red in my shots, but they just were'nt there today. The water temp was 18.5 pretty unusual for this time of year, the kingies just did a hit and run on me and were gone in 10mins.
  6. G'day raiders. Headed out from rosie ramp 6am, straight to balmoral for livies, no yakkas but heaps of blurders about a 1lb, kept 2 for strip bait. Went over to the island managed 1 squid. Anchored of bluefish in about 40mtrs, very weak current pushing south, wind was sw at about 10knots,pretty slow morning with wrasse and more blurders in bursts. Caught 4 squid on a jig rigged on a paternoster, even fresh squid could'nt entice a redi, however a school of kings came through at about 10 causing absolute mayhem. Managed to land 2 65-70cms even on 8kg line they stretch the arms.On the way home saw a school of salmon between bluefish and north head in that littie bay ,good to see no - one harrassing them for a change. still a top day on the water.
  7. Thanks Mako, good to hear the current has slowed a bit , it was screeming a couple of weeks ago. Was'nt sure where those toothless, small mouthed, bait pinching, hard to hook ( on 6'os ), vermin sat in the food chain, now i know, thanks.
  8. Great effort; i can smell that fresh sweet jewie aroma from here.
  9. Nice mix of winter fish,im hoping to go outside on tuesday, is the current still pushing hard from the north ? and were you anchored or drifting ? P.S. those newcastle bream are a pain in the ---s this time of the year, still have'nt worked out what there good for ???
  10. G'day tomtom; I think its very hard to pinpoint good results on one thing. The runup on both moons ( 2 days ) is usually pretty good, but never on the fullmoon day ( usually crap ). Also a few days after both phases is also good, however you need at least one of other options to be right, tide, current, wind direction, and most importantly barometric pressure, rising, if you can have all of these coinciding at the same time you generally clean up. This is very rare, my thoughts are mainly based on outside fishing.
  11. AND IT DIDN'T; Headed out wednesday morn, the flat boat battery at the ramp should have been a sign.Caught good size livies at balmoral and headed out to favourite spot.Again wind and current were bum about but continued fishing. Within 1hr the wind had changed directions 3 times and had to re-pick twice, rain was relentless.Every sea bird between me and N.Z. was behind the boat playing with my floating baits and the bottom was barren, by 9.30 i'd had enough; Mothernature was protecting the redis[.The 3 fish traps set in area may have something to do with it??]Any way it still beats the alternative; ANYTHINGELSE. What a diference 7 days makes . P.S.I will be away for 2wks with the fam, looking forward to better fishing when i get back

Boys, I generally fish in about 40-45meters of water, bait usually takes 10-15mins to get in the zone and is around 100meters behind the boat with standard current. As for eating fish my 5kids and missus dont really like it,the neighbours and outlaws love me.

Hi raiders, after looking at this site for about 6 months i finally have a fish worth sharing.Launched from Roseville headed out at 6am caught 12 yellowtail (took about 1 hr), trolled for fresh bait unsuccesfully. finally started fishing about 8:30 am off harboard wide, very quiet 2 trevally 1 flathead wind and current going in opposite direction (never a good sign when fishing for snapper). About 11:30 am wind died down. Finally my floated split yellowtail bait could drift down the south pushing current. By 12:30 pm i had landed 1 samson fish (about 2 kg) 3 reds between 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 kg also got smoked by a much larger fish on 5 kg fluro carbon line. About 1:10 pm got a similiar run on my 7.5 kg line managed to turn and land the fish after about 10 mins. A beautiful 6.5 kg Snapper was in the boat. Had to leave them biting (pick children up from school) but was very satisfied. i go out only on weekdays every week. look forward to keeping fellow raiders up to date on Snapper fishing as this is the only fish i target.
