  1. Thanks for the tip! Who would have thought hot water was the answer. Cheers.
  2. This is a little offf the topic, but I thought I'd share it with you anyhow. What does "boat" stand for?????? Better Organise Another Thousand How true it is! NJSCONST
  3. Hey, Deano it beats working! Did you end up with a feed? Check out the report by Mrs Swordfish (Ross Hunter)...... Run in from Browns at night can be very rough to say the least. NJSCONST
  4. I'll have to see if I am working.... but if not and the weather is good I'll be heading out. I'll keep ya posted. NJSCONST
  5. Thanks again, Love the diagrams. Problem is solved. I've been sitting here tying knots in front of the tele for hours! Cheers
  6. Thanks guys. You have solved hours of headaches for me. Much appreciated.
  7. I have got a nice little baitcaster fitted with 4lb briad for soft plastics. I have a problem though? Does anybody know how to tie the briad directly onto the mono leader. Everything I try just slips and comes apart . I don't want to use a swivel. Is there a website or link that shows me how to tie it correctly? NJSCONT.

    Tune Ups

Avoid Menai Marine!!!!!! I gave him my engine(Yamaha V4 115hp) to fix an over heating problem...... He stung me $600! Took the boat out and was still overheating..... gave it back to him...... he stung me another $200! Took boat out again...... still overheating! Told Menai Marine to F*&K OFF!!!!!! Took boat to Kroboats in Corrimal..... problem fixed first go. Don BANNING and his son fix the problem in about 4 hours, they knew exactly what it would be (reasonably priced - accredited Yamaha repairer/dealer). My advice is to give your business to someone who knows what they are doing, not the back yard boys like Menai Marine! I learnt the hard way. Hope this helps you avoid being ripped off. NJSCONT.
  9. Didn't try bottom bouncing..... tooooo deep and I don't have the right reel for that (big enough ratio). I had the baits out for anything. You would think with the amount of cubes in the water out there that the mako's would have been about. I'm pretty sure nothing was caught out there yesterday in the way of YFT & Mako's. Soon as this wind drops I'll be trying again.
  10. Launched the boat at 6am in Botany Bay and then headed to my usual live bait groud near the container wall. Tried to pick up so livies but they weren't about. Usually when you put some bread crumbs in the water their as thick as theives! At about 7am headed out through the heads and pointed the bow towards Browns. Water was flat and relatively calm. Arrived at Browns at about 8.30am and was met by about dozen other boats working the area (including "Tun O Fun"). The majority of the boats were stationary so I guesss they were cubing or bottom bashing. Cut the engine and started to cube.... weather was getting better. After about two hours and five blocks of pillies later the only action I saw was a huge seal swimming by . There was no chatter on the 27meg or VHF so I guess the other boats were doing it tough as well. I even heard some local pro fisherman talking about the lack of fish about. At 11am decided to give trolling a go. Set four skirts and the Pakula witichdoctor out the back and trolled back to the Plonk Hole. Not even a hit! . Enough was enough...... head back to the Bay as I had to start work! As they say your worst day on the water, is better then your best day at work!
  11. Well I made the trip out to Browns today (16/8). The weather was perfect!!!! The day just got better. I saw "Tun O Fun" out there. Fishing was slow to say the least. Off to work now... I'll post a full report tomorrow. NJSCONST.
  12. NETIC, We still intend heading out tomorrow...... whether we get there will depend entirely on the weather. I hope we do because I now have 12 blocks of pillies in the freezer. If the finds them you will all hear about it. I had to clear out the Sara Lee cakes and kids ice blocks to make room! If its is no good we will just hit the Peak or Plonk Hole. I'll be on channel 96 (27meg) and channel 16 (VHF). I'll be on the water at 6am all going to plan.
  13. You fellas still planning to make the trip out? Here is the BOM's lastest weather forecast - issued at 4pm today. Wednesday: Wind:Variable 5 knots, increasing to N/NE 20/25 knots in afternoon and evening. Sea:less than 1 metre rising to 2 to 2.5 metres in the afternoon and evening. Swell:SE 1 to 1.5 metres.
  14. NETIC, I am heading out to Browns tomorrow (16/8) with another boat. Leaving from Botany bay at about 6am. Weather looks good. 8-13knots from the N/E in the arvo, on <1mtr swell. I'll be in a 5.5m Seafarer with navy blue bimini.
  15. I've got the Furuno LS6100 and its a great sounder. Gives good range in both shallow and deep water. I also have a Furuno GPS and I am more than satisfied with their performance and reliability. I've used mine in 300mts of water and still get a good bottom picture (Dual Freq). Just remember the sounder is only as good as the transducer! Make sure it is mounted correctly, otherwise your sounder is not worth a pinch of *%#@.

    Vhf Radio

I just got myself a VHF marine radio. Can anyone post what channels are used for what? All I know is the Channels 16 & 67 are the emergency/distress channels. Thanks in Advance. NJSCONST
  17. Well done. It's a good sign to see those kingies still around, even if they are on the small side. Can only get better when the water warms up!
  18. Thanks NETIC, My boat is a 5.5m Seafarer, also with a 115hp Yamaha (2 stroke) on the back. It has a 120 litre S/S underfloor tank. I have a plastic 40ltr tank which I put spare fuel in up the front, for those longer trips. From what you've told me...... sounds like I am worried about nothing. Keep me posted. If the weather is kind to us on the weekend I'll be interested to tag along. Thanks NJSCONT. Thanks NETIC, My boat is a 5.5m Seafarer also with a 115hp Yamaha (2-Stroke) on the back. It is fitted with a 110ltr S/S underfloor tank. I have a spare 40ltr plastic fuel tank which I put up the front for those longer trips. From what your boat is burning I am guessing it is also a 2-Stroke? From the info your given me sounds like my boat is more than capable of making the trip out to Browns. Hope I can have only half the luck that you've had! Can you confirm I have the right mark for Browns - 34 02 200S 151 39 500E Keep me posted.... if the weather is kind on the weekend I'll be keen to make a trip out. NJSCONT.
  19. Great flatty. At least you got a feed. The last trip I had on Botany Bay the wind came up and I couldn't even loose a bait. Well done..... on platsics even better! NJSCONST
  20. Netic, My boat is similar in size. What HP/Motor have you got on the back of your Stacer? How much fuel did it burn going out to Browns and back? Sorry about all the questions, but I'm just trying to gauge it for my own boat. I live in South West Sydney as well. I would love to tag along with you guys for a trip out.......just to build my confidence! I regularly hit the FADS of Sydney and Port Stephens, but never gone that bit further to the shelf. Your reports have made me very keen to get out there! NJSCONST
  21. Great report NETIC! How long does it take to get out to Browns?
  22. Looking at the motor, the shape and graphics used by Mariner for that model...... It would be a 1975 - 1980 model. The boat is probably of the same vintage. Thats my guess! Any other thoughts out there? NJSCONST.
  23. Can you take a digital photo of the your boat and post it on the forum? It will help greatly and I am sure some keen boating enthusiast will be able to help you straight away. Just a thought NJSCONT.
  24. Fished Botany Bay today (20/6/06) and found the water temp had dropped dramatically down to an average of 15'C in the bay. Fishing was very tough indeed, only lost one bait and that was to a stingray. Spent the best part of the morning moving about within the bay itself with no luck. Tried Watts Reef, 3rd Runway, Towra and Hotwater outlet all withou even loosing a bait or turning a reel. With low tide at 9.30am I gave up on the Bay and moved down the river to the mouth of the Woronora River and fished the run-up tide on the western side of Como Bridge. Once the tide started to run the bites were fast and furious. Using live blood worms I snared three good whiting.... one thumper at 42cm! Unfortunataly ran out of live worms and they would not touch any thing else that I offered them, so a I called it a day. At least I got a feed for the family! Happy hunting.
