  1. Hi everyone, my name's Malcolm, just thought i'd say hi. Been into fishing since I was little, however living in outer western sydney, I've only really fished while on holidays (never fished freshwater). I've recently bought a boat and kitted it out so that has opened up enough opportunities to make a few worthwhile (hopefully) day trips
  2. Hi everyone, first post on this forum after being a long time lurker, seems to be a wealth of knowledge here. I'm heading down to Windang over the June long weekend, the plan is to drag the boat down and have a fish around the Windang inlet and offshore weather permitting. I've never fished in the winter, so does anyone have any hunches on which species are about in the Illawarra area? Also as far as offshore goes are there any reefs just off Windang Island? I've also about Snapper off Bellambi? Does anyone know the location of the reef?
  3. Nice haul of squid. Is the swell normally as big as it was around Bare at 7 this morning? Not knowing the area it caught me off guard, so we spent the day bottom fishing for under size.
  4. I've read the call sign topic above, how do people get their call signs? Is it made up, and how do you know someone else isn't using it? I've read you can be assigned a call sign by coast guard for check in purposes. I emailed coast guard for some info and got no response.
  5. Ok it's taken a while for me to get a result with this. It is intermittent whether the anchor light is affected. However I went out on the bay today and called for a radio check on 88, all clear. So the equipment is working correctly. I've also noticed heavy static through the radio when cranking the engine, it's some sort of feedback issue, all the wiring is new, soldered and heat shrinked. Maybe I should put a diode somewhere?
  6. The radio is just a run of the mill GME 27 meg marine radio. Could it possibly be because I'm powering the radio from my main switch panel, which controls all the lights. Would I be better to run a dedicated power cable from the radio to the battery?
  7. Hi guys, The title pretty much says it all. I've just installed my UHF radio, and when I hold the transmit button, the anchor light turns on. Also the switch on the dash for the anchor light illuminates (on). I seem to be getting pretty poor signal on CB frequencies, haven't tried the marine frequencies.
