  1. A wet hand would be better in my opinion. Some fish have a protective slime and if you are going to let them go it needs to be preserved. Also, most gills are one way. I feel like screaming at Worstling when he pushes fish back and forward roughly 'swimming' them. F'ing idiot! I also think its really cruel to just stick fish in a bucket or box to suffocate slowly. In an ideal world it should be a quick death, put in an ice slurry to induce a coma or released quickly. Someone in Fisheries should take some initiate and make some tv ads and YouTube clips about fish handling and killing. I always used to grap fish by the gills 10 years ago coz that's what my old man did. Even grab some by the eyes!!! Tv shows are doing a good job, but it isn't their job to educate.
  2. Saw these on online shop and followed a link on their packaging. I've already spent too much on soft plastics, but I am interested in some blades. Especially for chasing winter fish. I came across these Scumline Fishing I don't like the name, but the stuff is CHEAP as! Interested if anyone has used them before? How was the service etc? I am NOT affiliated at all with this website. If someone from Scumline wants to affiliate with me please feel free to contact me. If I can catch fish with your gear, anyone could!!
  3. Where exactly did you fish? I have begun fishing The Entrance and not having much luck. Any help appreciated!
  4. Looks like I got sucked in! Bought a bottle of the Reel Deal by Pirtek. I want to look after my gear but don't want chemical stuff all over everything!
  5. I see on most YouTube clips and descriptions that people just spray their whole reel with Innox or the like, braid included! I was always careful not to touch bait/lures with hands that have suncream etc all over them. What's your take on this? My current routine is to remove the spool and spray the reel and spray a little into the drag washers and avoid coating my line with lube! Do you think it affects catching fish?

    Small fish ID

Thanks Ray. Googled Easter Pomfred and it matches the little one I got. Are they any good for anything?

    Small fish ID

    Caught while fishing for yakkas
  8. I wish I did! Seems like it will be small seas and no wind early Sunday so heading outside could be on the cards from either Ettalong to Swansea. Still undecided! I also figure there will be LOTS of people out on the lake on this day. Don't like crowds!
  9. Fished all day there on Sunday and got a 10cm bream, beginning to think I am cursed! Done well from the land there though... maybe it's the boat.
  10. Hi raiders, Have entered the Pirtek Fishing Challenge for this Sunday (15/4/12) Will be fishing from a 4.8mtr Baymaster boat and am torn between Brisbane Water or Lake Macquarie. Anyone have an opinion either way. Chasing the bread and butter fish (bream, flatties, whiting etc.)Have had 4 outings so far in the lake and got zero each time! SO confidence is low there! Also never crossed a bar before, let alone that bar! So going outside is a bit daunting. Where as Ettalong 'bar' I have been across. Would LOVE to get a bonito or salmon or something though.
  11. I was there lat Sunday and landed 2 40cm flatties, let them go. Went today and the outgoing tide was charging! No fish in the mouth of the channel, only some dumb swimmers! I am keen to try the boat approach on Monday. Anyone got some spots they care to share?
  12. Noob question everyone. When manufacturers state, for example, 9kg of drag. Does that mean if I weighted up the reel with 9.5kg of weight it would give? Anything less than 9 it would hold if asked to do so? Same goes for rods, I bought a2 -4kg rod. That related to line class right? So if I caught a 5kg fish with it should I expect it to break? To me it doesn't make sense. If you talk about brake pressure on motor cars you use an actual unit of force or pressure. Not kg.
  13. Thanks so much for all the replies, very much appreciated. I have a compound pharmacy close by and a sister in law who is a pharmacist and with everyones suggestions I should be able to find something that works.
  14. I can help specifically but you might get some more answers on Sydney angler forum.
  15. As the title suggests. What do you use to stop sea sickness? Have heard of people taking one the night before, then another half in the am before heading out.

    Worm prices

Just called the local tackle store to see if they will be open when I go past Sat morning and also to find out how much worms where and blood and beach were 10 for $20. Is this an average price?

    JB and Ettalong bars

Read the marine charts again and I do notice: As for JB bar. I have been holidaying there for 30 years as I said and I haven't ever seen anything greater than 8 foot waves in the bay. Not the sort of day to go out in a boat. I accept it is a bar, but it's gotta be one of the safest around.

    JB and Ettalong bars

Have only been out there once as a skipper and I think I saw a sign on land where the last marker is.
