  1. Raiders, I have looked on Maratime's website and didn't find the answer so am hoping someonere here will help. 1. Currambene Creek entrance to Jervis Bay- is it a bar? Do you wear your PDF's? Have fished there all my life (30 years) and have swum across the mouth of the creek, paddled boards across etc. Never considered it a bar as such. Certainly not like some I see on YouTube. 2. Brisbane water at Ettalong where it meets the ocean- is that considered a bar?

    Family fishing

Had a disaster today. Went off terrigal to get some yakkas. Dad did say the seas were up, didn't listen! Mrs HAD to have another coffee before we set off so we were 15 mins late and already pissed with each other. Got the boat in, after it hit the ramp and scratched the carp out of the hull. Mrs was sea sick 5 mins in and wanted to swim ashore (about 500mtrs off the beach) so dad suggested to just take a trip. Had to turn around coz the mrs was heaving! Boat ram was a p$&-k to put the boat back on. Didn't even wet a line! Many lessons learned, the biggest one being leave the mrs at home next time! Will hit Lake Mac or Bris water next time to avoid the swell. Thanks for the tips so far.
  3. Dear fishraiders, My old man bought a brand new Stacer Baymaster a few months ago which was a great excuse to get my license, go cruising, spend time with my dad and gets the kids into fishing and boating. My kids are 3 and 22 months. Daughter (eldest) LOVES fish and is dead keen to go fishing. Watches ifish with me, reads fishing books (looks at photos) and my son is a boat fan. Wife is 50/50 on the whole thing. Would appreciate some advice for those who have been there and done that. My current plan of getting my daughter to tell my wife she really wants to go fishing isn't baring fruit. My other thought was to take them all with the old man out off Terrigal boat ramp to get some yakkas and/or squid. Something that is almost a guaranteed catch to get them excited. Suggestions welcome!
  4. I've gotta put a limit on it somewhere and it has to be around the $130 mark. The Shimano outfi t mentioned earlier seems to be good price wise. I have heard good deals can be had from overseas also so that's something I will be checking out.
  5. Didn't think they would. Will go check out some tackle stores this arvo. My local small one isnt very big.
  6. Thanks guys. I guessed the 1000 was a smaller reel than a 4000 etc. But what exactly do the numbers mean? Or is it just something given to reel ranges to help customers? Don't suppose they would supply to me given I have an ABN?
  7. I would like a rod and reel combo as a do it all type thing. Mainly boat fishing for flatheads, squid, yakkas and smileys and I would like* to chase some Bonito and the like. Got a $39 ***** job at the moment. It's ok. Would prefer under the $100 mark. What are these 1000, 2000 etc ratings on reals? Do I need a special rod for braid? I have heard braid can cut groves into guides. Ball bearings, how many is good for my needs? I see some places written 4+1. Do some brands have a. Better name than others. Also to put my fishing into context I still have the same Jarvis Walker reel I got given when I was about 12. And apart from some scratches it still performs as it did when it was new. So I am not an every weekend fisherman.
