  1. Hi Jim,

We are based at Callala Beach too, so be sure to yell out if you see us. I will be there right through to 2nd week of january before I have to go back to miserable work.

    Guys,

I'll be at JB from boxing day onwards for two weeks.

I have a 4.6m quintex just like yours

I'll like to team up with some one to go outside the heads, if interested send PM

    Mike

  2. Hi Tom, the wires coming from under the flywheel will be your stator or trigger wires and without these the engine will not have spark and that is why your plugs will be wet fouled. Remove the plugs and crank the engine over and check for sprak and I think you will find you do not have any.

Not a big job to repair and the easiest way is to rejoin the wires if you do not want to replace the faulty part and see how that goes. If you troll alot with your old Tech engine make sure you are reaching operating temp at ilde and run a good quality oil with the best being XD-100 and with this you will not see any smoke.

Let us know the outcome and if you have any questions just ask,

    Cheers,

    Huey.

Huey you arethe greatest. That's exactly what has happened. :1prop:

We rejoined the wires and then I got a yearly service a bit earl;ier that usual.

Thank you for your informed comments  cheers

  3. To all,

My Mercury 50HP 2 stroke, I used it on Fri, Sat and Sun and this is what happened on Monday morning.

Started the Engine on Monday morning no problems, trolled for about 20 - 30 minutes and then anchored up and turned off the engine.

When I went to start the engine I turned the keys 3 times and I noticed their was no power to turn on the engine.

I then saw the kill switch activated, so I de activated it and squeezed the fuel pump twice.

Put the coke up and tried to start again, the engine now had power but would not click over. It tried approx 12 times.

We then though it might be flooded so we waited 30 minutes and tried to start it again, with no luck.

Then we where towed back to shore

Took the spark plugs out and all 3 plugs where fouled up, dark and black

Placed the plugs in kerosene and lightly sanded the plugs and washed them in Kerosene again.

When dry, placed the plugs in and tried to start the engine with no luck

At this point, I noticed burnt out corroded wires coming from the flywheel going down to the batery charger and some other spot.

Can wire being burnt activate the kill switch?

Why are the spark plugs fauled eg black and dirty? Is it normal in a two stroke?

  4. Hi all

Another secret to cooking occy (well this is what I do to baby occy from the seafood shop) is to clean it, boil it for 20 minutes in water, let it cool in the water for a couple of hours, then marinate it overnight in oil, garlic, soy, chilli maybe some lemon and white wine, then hot bbq grill for a few minutes till crispy on the edges.

    mmmmmmmmmmmm

    Pedro

pgb sounds great but my favourite is a Occy Summer Salad !!

Clean it, boil it for 20 minutes in water, let it cool in the water for a couple of hours. Chop it up into bit size pices, boiled potates, add olive oil, red wine vinger, garlic, chopped onions, salt and Pepper.

    Wow!!!

  5. My condolences to both families.

There are a lot of hoons on the water no matter how big or small a boat they have.

Flying through a bridge at night or dusk is just wrong.

    Incident

I saw these guys heading west past Como bridge in a 150 HP speed boat. The sun was setting and rendered you blind with the reflection off the water. It didn't stop these guys ......... well not for long they ended up beached about 10m from the waters edge on sand ....it was low tide I forgot to mention. They looked embarressed as all the other boaters they passed went by.

No amount of policing can stop unthinking behaviour.

  6. One crab pot may not be enough. Get yourself the limit of five.

I haven't set any this year but if you run five in a row over a decent distance and move them around a bit you will find where and at what depth the crabs are. I would go to places like Towra, the sticks near Kurnell, the edge of the channel opposite St George sailing club and outside St george motor boat club. except for the motor boat club, which is all deepish, start with your first trap in about six foot and set the rest out to deeper water.

If you keep doing that you will know where they are by the time they are really fired up in a month or so.

    Dave

Thank you for the locations and how to position the trap.

I thought the legal limit for Square crabs traps was one?

I placed the trap near Kernel and didn't cath anything, bait used a old trvalley and pichards.

    Note

You wouldn't belive it but there was know one on that side of the bay and suddenly a boat comes up and achors no more that 2m from the trap. I just couldn't belive it and I told them so and had to remove it from the water and place it in another location.

  7. Nice fish there mate....

Hey i noticed that your boat is about the same size as mine, though i wouldn't have considered taking it that far out into the open water.... Does the boat handle the swell well or do you only go out when the seas are very calm???

    Great fishing guys & Meee tooo ..... I have a 460 Quintrex aswell :1prop:

  8. Hi Fishos

Just moved in the oatley area and have a little 420 dory.

wondering if anyone could help me out with what spots i should be fishing in for bream, falthead and even some kings and jews as i've herd around the traps.

    any advice would be appreciated

Hi I'm from Oatley as well.

Anything east of Captian cook bridge you can eat, so start there and work your way East into the bay.

For three eyed fish - bream and flathead just go around Como bridge and further down West to Lugarno etc

  9. I was at the carpak at Molx Pt .... got there just before high tide and caught nothing, not a bite!

Went to Bowen island and caul 4x PJ sharksn and 1x Trev.

Weather was great up until 2pm then the wind and swel came right on que.

    Water temp around 17c

It was just good to be out there. :1fishing1:

  10. Calling on the brains trust here...........

I have 50HP Mercury Oilo injected, 2 stroke, 3 cylinder, electric egnition, 93kg, sitting on a 4.6m Quintrex.

Q1 Is it able to be started manually, if I get stuck out there?

    Q2 Could you install a 75 HP (138 Kg) on a 4.6m Coast runner?

  11. In the $10 to $12k market approx 3 to 4m boat, say 3 years old, there is little diff in price from old to new.

So buy a new one, look at stacer dealer around Granville in NSW.

If you looking at a older boat (3- 4yrs plus) then second hand is the way to go, you should be able to get a good deal for that money.

  12. Last two outing where leather jacket city!!

    Three of us went out.

    Near Bowan Isalnd

    25/5 2pm, 1 hr before high tide.

No Wind, no swell just sunshine!!! :1prop:

    Started catching undersize pinkies.

    Then started catching 30cm snappers and 5 cast6s in a row 40cm!!! :1prop:

Then what's this...... thumping arm wrentching whale on the line...it's a travally 35cm

    What's this another travally.

    Total 15 snapper, 9 travally, 2 flathead

    What an afternoon :05:

This has newed my faith in going out!!

By the way all caught on 6lb line, No4 hooks, small sinker as there was no current.

Why bother going outsuide the heads.

It does not get better than this, giot hionme at 6pm fish cleaned aand waiting for the :wife: to cook them.

  13. Sorry guys not pictures.

Went out on Tuesday 15th at around 7am from Port Hacking down the coast to Stanwell Park.

We were looking for flathead but insetad got swamped with leather jackets...Thereyre carzy, they followed us everywhere.

Water was clear and tyou can see them taking the bait.

I placd a large sinker on to avoid them, but the ended up cutting the main line, can you belive it!!

    :05:

There where two of us and caught around 20 good size ones, threw about 10 back!

Anyway, we skined them at the warf and where home by 2pm.

They did taste great that night.

I hope the travelly will be around soon.

  14. Yes, Ive fished there.

100m north of the point is a sancturay now.

The swell is just scary at the point or Bowen island. I'm sure there some major fish there, I'm just to scared to go there if it's rough.

Once you go out of the heads there are just cliffs. Now where to go in case of an emergency so I don't go out too often, only when its calm.

By boat Murrys beach is the quickest.

  15. Well on Saturday im taking out a king virgin to get his first feel for these things...hje has been busting my balls for 2 month so this saturday it is, If the weather is good im hoping to also get out on Sunday...

I gotta go fishing as often as i can before the baby arrives because once it comes i may be grounded for a while

Hey I'm in the same boat :1prop: .....my wife is due in 3 weeks.

I'm going to BB on Saturday and will enjoy every second

  16. Johnno,

These are new boats. the 40VWHTOL adds several grand to the price of a 30 (about a grand to the cost of a 40VMHTL, man start and pre mix) and my option with the side rails (ala topender) adds about 6-700 to the basic Dory too.

Im swaying towards the dory plus extruded side rails, bimini, transducer bracket and the 40VWHTOL for approx $12K, then have a local metal fab guy make the anchor well (with a lid), bow rails and bow roller, rear step and side rails and the side storage box's for me. Its sure to cost less than the $900 quintrex want for those options. Plus I save approx $900 quintrex want for the accessory pack, which is nav lights, auto bilge pump, battery box, battery isolator, switch panel all pre installed.

My wife keeps telling me to get the bigger motor, she says "I dont wanna hear you whingeing and whining later, that you should have got the bigger motor, just get it now and get the other nice things later." What a gem of a wife I have.

I agree with the Mrs, go the 40hp !!!!

  17. Thanks for the replies guys.

    1. Only 4.8m Quintrex have underfloor storage.!!!! This is something you find out after you buy the boat!!!

    2. Sammy/DarrenG , Two smaller 56L = L565 W400 H410 Ice Kool boxes are an option. I will then need to fix them so they don't move. I'll check out the new freedom sport.

    3. Still looking for the ultimate solution a custom made ICE BOX that fits perfectly under the seat, still allowing access to the back where the batteryand fuel pump is located. I live in Sydneyand would like a name and details of someone who makes them.

Guys this Cooler thing is critical the Mrs has given me a window of opportunity to spend the money, I need to get a good nights sleep and it won't happen until this is solved .

Arron, The ladder issue was solved with a little back yard modifications, it works perfectly now, I'm glad I bought the $200 ladder with the wide runs, its easier for the kids and the Mrs.

  18. Ice_Box_Dimension.pdfThere must be other Quintrex/Stacer boat owners with the same issue, where to place the ICE BOX?

I would liek to place it under the seat, worst case senario is to get rid of the seat and place two ice boxes and use them as seats.

Looking for the ideal sized ICE BOX W=40, L=1100, H=32

Please find attached a drawing of the space I have available any suggestions would be appreciated.

Who could make one uip for me?

It is frustrating as Quintrex has not given any thought to it, and secondly the ICE BOX manufacturers make them too high. From the floor to the top of the boat is 51cm.

    Help?
