  1. I do the majority of my fishing in the hawkesberry and broken bay area but only manage good snapper and kingfish if I journey all the way down to long reef. In fishing books and various websites they say that East and West reef fish well, however whenever I've been there I've only manages garbage fish. Is this place dead from the trawlers? Or am I fishing it wrong?
  2. haha no ramp, boat is moored in Brooklyn. loonngg drive to long reef
  3. headed to Long reef at about 8am with a few live squid in the well. Arrived at 830 after heading down from pittwater to find only 2 boats on the reef. Fished for about 20 mins before landing the first king, undersized so he went back. Anchored and set a burley trail in about 14m. 70cm king in the boat soon after, on a slice of mack tuna instead of a live squid right down next to it. Few more rats before moving spot. Drifted down the wall with the remaining live squid for another legal king and 2 massive bust offs. It was as if the fish knew to head straight for cover before they even took the bait. One last stop at a secret location for a few nice dollies and rat kings. Then followed by a nice pod of dolphins on the way home. A great day overall!
  4. thanks for your replies guys. I think i might take it back to the shop and let them have a good look at it
  5. I've had this saltist for a while now and i have been noticing that it doesnt pull nearly as much drag as it should be. Did a test with some fish scales and only pulled 2kg. Should i upgrade the drag washers? or is there something wrong with the reel? Any information would be greatly appreciated Cheers
  6. long reef was absolutely full of rats on wednesday. we pulled in around 20 just on frozen pillies. Little buggers unfortunately munched all our hard earned live squid as well. Where abouts do the bigger ones lurk?
  7. there may be a good trip here and there but im finding there is a lot of nothing inbetween
  8. been out 4 times in the past two weeks. Ive noticed at least 8 different trawlers doing runs all around bar point and surrounds starting at sunrise and finishing aroun 12-1. I dont think there's a lot left to be honest
  9. when you guys burley up, do you anchor or just drift? how deep do you normally fish?
  10. I've fished that bay regularly for 15 years or so. Best spot is off the rocks closer towards the back of the bay. Lots of flatties here if youre flicking a few plastics. Another good spot is Bedlam point which is just a quick 2 minute walk from the whalf. There is a large sandstone box kind of looking thing that is hard to miss. burley with bread and you can catch LOTS of good bream. happy fishing!
  11. Started out off avalon this morning. Just a few reefies and the odd XL yellowtail. hardly any surface action, and when there was they spooked just as quickly as they appeared. headed out a bit wider and got nothing. Saw the odd whale though which was pretty cool. This has been maybe the 10th trip for no fish (apart from the odd flathead) and it looks like a lot of people are having similar problems. What is going on?! where are the fish?! It seems as though the fishing has got a lot worse over the past 2 years in the area. Anyone else noticed this? or am i just losing all my luck and talent?
  12. Hmm no replies yet, I guess everyone is asking the same question. not having much luck in broken bay recently
