  1. Also, is that a tide apparel shirt you're wearing?
  2. Hollllyyy crap! Incredible catch! I'm changing the hardware on my poppers and trying this weekend! Simply amazing
  3. I honesty wouldn't bother fishing the hawkesbury for a few weeks at least. Very very rarely does it produce in the colder months. Some people might disagree but it's certainly an overwhelming occurance. Our boat is moored in Brooklyn so we are restricted to the hawkesbury area. We ALWAYS go to the inshore reefs out from barrenjoey now. Waste of fuel and time otherwise. Probably out of the question if you're in a tinny. Big jewies is probably the only thing id try and target if I was fishing the river. Weathers starting to warm up so things will hopefully start improving
  4. I did hear from a charter boat skipper in Lord Howe that if you bang them the little fracture can explode under pressure. Obviously that would be the case more most rods but tcurves are apparently more sensitive. Must be just lucky with mine so far. Probably jinxed it now though...
  5. never had sashimi trevally before. how does it rate compared to kingfish?
  6. I've been doing a bit of research but still dont know which grease to get. I will be servicing a few 2500 and 4000 size spin reels before my trip to NZ. I know the purple grease is meant for smaller reels but can it also be used on the drag? Or will the tan grease work for both? cheers
  7. I tried soaking it in various things but nothing seems to work. Ended up calling shimano and the guy said to put the screw in a tiny bit then lock the bail arm in a vice. Then just lightly tap the screw until the pin pops out the other side. Worked perfectly. This Ace2 greece you mentioned, where would i get that? I've got the replacement bearing ready but dont want the same thing to happen again. Would it be ok to use normal reel or drag grease instead? thanks
  8. nice haul! those winter hoodlums are sneaky buggers. They dont come out to play unless youre using your lightest outfit. next time!
  9. Thinking of heading to Broken Bay wide this weekend. I've heard it can be an OK place for jigging and live baiting kings sometimes. However there are hardly ever reports or much talk at all about the area. Has anyone been there lately? Or know if its even worth heading out that way? Closest I've been to there was about 10km south of where the BBW fad is meant to be but only found jackets and a small mako. Any info would be greatly appreciated cheers
  10. Headed out in the boat with dad to have a quick fish before uni. Couldnt get out early enough to escape the wind which made things difficult. Failed to christen the new plastics rod on a snapper but caught a feed of flatties bottom bashing in 50m. Tried putting down some squid jigs over reefs on a paternoster like setup thinking this would be the best way, but it failed to produce. Hopefully get out early saturday morning to try for a snapper again. Flatties were caught east of avalon beach anyone else get out today?
  11. you guys are absolutely killing it. I saw in the last video you posted the fish grabbed the plastic when the rod was in the holder. Is that how you normally get them? Going out on saturday to try and get my first snapper on plastic so just curious. Would you recommend drifting the plastics or working them like you would for jewfish/flathead? meaning a double twitch or something after a long pause. I'm guessing ill just have to put in some long hours and hard work like you guys have done and figure out what works
  12. awesome cheers for the replies! ill give it a go in the morning
  13. The roller bearing on my stradic hasnt moved in about 3 months so i finally got a replacement. However when i go to take the bearing out it wont move. Ive looked at my newer stradic FA and the bearing and roller pop straight out when unscrewed. This is driving me crazy. Id rather not have to go to the tackle shop and pay $50 bucks to replace a bearing but it seems I may have no other choice. Does anyone have a solution?
  14. On the BOM website it says for today (saturday 9/8/14) there are deceptively powerful surf conditions. However when i look at willy weather, it says 1.1-1.3m seas and a period of roughly 13 seconds. I would have thought this would result in fairly calm seas. My theory now is that with a higher period in the waves, the more water volume the waves have, resulting in a more powerful wave when it hits the rocks? Is this true? or is it something else. Just curious...
  15. My dad was catching a few jewies around Spencer a week ago. Fresh hawkesbury prawns on the tide change did the trick. However there were many fishless trips before and after. Drifting for flatties off palm beach (ocean side) has been producing consistently if you can head out that way.
  16. As MCheng said the hawkesbury is very slow in the winter so i pretty much dont bother fishing it. On wednesday caught 4 nice flatties and a baby mako drifting in 50m straight out from barenjoey. If you can make it out that far you're in with a good chance. Happy fishing
  17. After the recent dolphin fish bonanza this summer, my mind has been fixated on blue water pelagics. So with tuna season approaching I thought id give it a go. Our boat is moored in the hawkesbury however and therefore i will not be able to launch from botany bay etc to reach places like the peak / browns. So i was wondering if it is worth trolling within a 25km radius of barrenjoey head? Is the water deep enough to hold tuna? Or should I not bother wasting the petrol? Ps: the boat our boat is only 18ft long with about a 120L tank Thanks in advance
  18. Went out in pittwater on monday to lose 1 slow trolled slimie bitten clean off and another sitting at a mooring near Careel bay. Maybe there are more than 1 around!
  19. amazing! I'll definitely be fishing pittwater tomorrow!
  20. live mullet if you can get them are always worth throwing in, but lots of people catch them on butterflied yakkas or just fillets, which is obviously easier to get. Kissing point whalf produces fairly regular fish. Woolwich is also worth a look. good luck!
  21. looking to replace the bimini on my 18ft yalta craft as its falling to pieces. Was wondering if anyone knows a company that could make a new one? Also keen to install some rocket launches onto the boat. if anyone has any advice on which one to get and how to install it that would be great cheers
  22. Fished the Hawkesbury and pittwater fairly solidly for the past 3 days, however only today did I actually catch a feed. 9/12/13 Pittwater - nothing Patonga - few small whiting Dangar Island - 1 flathead 45cm 10/12/13 Pittwater - jigged a few nice squid but no kingies around Barrenjoey headland - lost a bonnie at the boat 11/12/13 Bar point - nothing but bloody catfish!!! Pumpkin point - My first jewie! only 50cm but still cheering! Overweight bream and a nice 52cm flatty Hawkesbury prawns from the fishmarkets caught all the fish!
  23. Looks like I may as well head down to long reef. Cheers for the replies guys
