  1. yeh i have already thought of how i will land it and what outfit i will use
  2. yeh there was no way i was gonna stop one that size with 4pd and such heavy structure
  3. Decided to head out with a mate to a local marina in hunters hill this arvo to find some breambos. Working the boardwalk with 2.5inch zman grubz we had many follows and timid bites but no hook ups. was fishing a section of the boardwalk when we both heard a splash from under the boardwalk. We didnt think much of it at first but after realizing that it could be a fish we went over to take a look. Surely enough it was a fish. In fact there were many fish. There was about a pod of 20 kingfish smashing whitebait on the surface. I had only seen a kingfish in the flesh once and still have not landed a king of any size. These kingies were not just rats which seem to be in abundance west of the bridge... Some of these fish were over 1m.. I knew it would end in devastation but of course i had to through down my little grub on 4pd.. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz under the pontoon. Gone. After a frantic 10mins of retying a heavier leader and rigging up another lure whilst trying to keep the pod in view, they went deep and were not seen again. This has got to be the most bizarre experience i have had in the harbour.
  4. half pilly mut 6ounce scnapper lead 100lb mono leader with a 30,000 stella mut works a treat!
  5. AH Ocean blue! Great bunch of guys. Was there for half a day and managed some wahoo and a few small tuna. They know their stuff
  6. Went out on a house boat from wisemans ferry over this Australia Day weekend... Over the 3 days of fishing we caught about 20 eel, 30 catfish, a flounder and a few legal flatties. I also managed to get a couple of micro Jews around the 30cm mark :/ I have been trying to improve my pb jewy which at the moment stands at a pathetic 47cm... And on the Sunday night I though I had... We had anchored up around spencer which is a good hour up river from Brooklyn bridge... We had found a channel about 20metres deep... I had managed to grab a few yellowtail during the day and had kept them live for that night. As the night wore on the faith along with the number of "livies" decreased and I was left with one DEAD yakka at about 1 in the morning... I pinned the yakka through the shoulder and casted him out on my baitrunner 8000D into the slack top of the tide... It didn't take long.... Zzzzzzzzzzzz went the drag. I struck. I hooked up and it was on.. The fish had a surprisingly strong first run and at this stage I thought it had to be the elusive big Jew. As the fight entered its 5th minute the fish tires and surfaces not far from the boat... Expecting to see silver I was met with an almighty estuary stingray... My shoulders dropped.. The things head was about 800mm wide and the tail was gigantic. I cut my leader and he swam off unharmed What an anti climax But I am getting closer to the metre Jew Persistence Is key
  7. where abouts did u catch this cracker mate?!
  8. going up with some mates to wisemans ferry this coming saturday.. We start at wisemans but we can go as far as fliny and steel... any good spots to try whilst on a boat?? (first time fishing the hawko not landbased...) is it worth trekking to spots like juno and flint and steel or is there spots holding jews and sharkies near wisemans?? have seen some pretty deep channels in between wisemans and the bridges.. Any help would be much appreciated
  9. Yeh mate my brother has the fool tacklebox up the coast
  10. Went down for a quick flick with some plastics on my wharf around lunch time.. Using the 100mm bloodworm wriggler I managed to get some interest in what Definantly was flatties... But couldn't manage to get the hook in As I was working in a retrieve a decent size tailor(30-35cm) flung into the air literally 5m from where I was standing.. I quickly picked up my heavier outfit being the sustain 3000 with a 100mm fish and had a few cast around where the fish had jumped.. No luck.. I then noticed some birds hovering around and a few boils further away... I ran back up to the house and grabbed the baitrunner 8000 and quickly pinned a whole squid on a single hook and a big float ... The bait had been in the water for 5 mins when I saw a tailor about the same size jump off to the left up against the rocks.. Luckily at the time I was wearing Polaroids because just below the tailor in about 1m of water was a very good size king( around 80cm).. It was total mayhem I scrambled for the baitrunner and cast it other to where the king was... I grabbed the sustain and started some quick retrieves.. At the time I didn't have my whole tacklebox with me which contained metals and poppers the Kingy didn't corn back and at this moment I still have the whole squid out hoping for it to return.... This has been one of the many experiences I have had with kings just off my wharf and by the end if summer I hope I can manage to get one
  11. i was thinking of heading down to the reserve under figtree bridge tomorrow for the morning run in... Never fished it before but have heard of some quality fish being caught down there.. probably going to fish pillies, squid and sps... Does anyone know if there are jews under there?? heard of some rumors of quality jews under there... any tips and help would be much appreciated
  12. i am 100% in favor of the mighty mulloway.. it has taken me abit under 2 years to land my first jew... even though it was not a big fish coming in at just over legal... It was 11 at night and when that line started peeling off the baitrunner,,(the moment that had took 20months to happen) was truly awesome.. It is about the hunt and the effort put into catching fish and when the ghost of the estuary was finally in my grasp it was amazing. With kingies u could be super lucky and find a school of them at any time of the day and all u have to do is drop something down like a plastic or yakka and ur almost certain u will bang into a few.. So a 1 metre jew would out do any 1m king
  13. went out on my tinny with a couple of mates last Saturday.. whilst i were waiting for them to arrive, i started throwing around some sp's on the wharf in front of my house. Ended up with 2 decent tailor ranging from 29 to 33cm. After that we were off on the tinny and tired up to a buoy around ferry st wharf, hunters hill. There, i used a 100mm lava wriggler and came up with another smaller tailor and my mate, with an undersized flatty. We then decided to relocate and we found ourselves in tarban creek. We got another undersized flatty as soon as we got there. With things looking grim, i changed to a bloodworm wriggler and it payed off.. I casted out into the channel and let in sink... As i went to jig up i was met with an almighty weight. At first i was reeling it in with relative ease thinking it was just weed but then the fish decided to go deep and the battle was on!! About 4 minutes later and 3 failed attempts of netting the fish, i had a 60cm flathead in the boat!! After that we went back to my wharf and decided to fillet the tailor for bait. we put a fillet of tailor on a baitrunner 8000D and let it drift in the channel. As i was gutting the flatty my brothers baitrunner sprung to life. He caught two snapper around the 30cm mark in the space of 5 minutes. Ended up with 7 taylor, 3 flathead and 2 snapper.
  14. Thanks wriggler1 Yeh might try a few next time
