  1. Hi all,

Thought I'd share a great days fishing that my better half and I shared. Started off early this morning with the low tide just before 9am. I was on my lonesome and didn't have to wait long before I pulled in a 70cm salmon. It was a long, fun fight and I seemed to lose track of the school so I headed back home for some breakfast.

My partner decided that it was a quality day and some tanning down on the beach was in order, so off we went again, around the 11 o'clock mark. Of course, I took the surf rod down again and it was only a short wait before we hooked up and Chantell landed her very first salmon and her biggest ever fish :)

Not to be outdone I rebated and caught myself another salmon shortly after. But we weren't done there... Fresh bait and we cast out again. Noticed a tap on the rod, so I struck and we were back in. Started to wind but knew it was chantells turn to bring in a fish, so she took over and was in for a bigger fight than either of us realized.

We worked together and finally beached our biggest ever catch each and a first port Jackson shark!!

  2. Haven't tried davistown for blackies, if it's the Amy st I'm thinking of at the boat ramp the current can get pretty wild. A bit of a drive from there though at hardy's bay I've seen some big school of them hanging out right under the warf. Also know you can get some whiting, bream and pinkies if you cast out a bit. Good spot for nippers on a run out.

Good luck let us know how you get on :)

  3. Since this is a beach thread, you guys might know how to pick a good spot in the dark to cast into?? Trying for my first Jew off the beach the last few days, been working the tides but nothing. Would be happy with any result if it isn't a Jew strait away...

  4. Haven't heard anything mate but would love to hear some good results from yourself. I've been tryin the beaches on the coast lately without a lot of luck. I'll put it down to inexperience... Good luck!!

  5. I must try them! We caught over half a dozen on the weekend so I think I know where to find them now ;)

Any thoughts on six spined leatherjacket? I've tried the more common variety before but not sure about the six spined. Pretty to look at regardless :)

  6. Hey guys!

Just thought I'd ask around as I'm not sure how it all works. Looking to see if there's anyone in the area that needs regular help out on the water. I don't have a great deal of experience but im eagar to learn. Work 830-5 mon-fri and am happy to pitch in for costs...

Been getting right into the fishing since living on the coast so would love the opportunity to learn more and get some more experience off shore.

  7. G'day everyone!

Just having a browse online for some of the multiple species we pulled up from a fun session on the rocks at avoca on the weekend. Only one that I found on the fisheries website was a red scorpion fish. Every fish we caught went back (except the yakkas) as they looked too dangerous to touch let alone eat haha.

Noticed there was a bag limit of 5 with no size limit on the scorpion fish though? If they're eatable they'd want to be brilliant to compensate for those nasty spikes!

  8. Hello again guys and girls,

I caught myself a handful of yellow tail the other day and have read on this forum that they are a terrific bait. Sadly couldn't get out the same day to use them as live baits but have them tucked in the freezer for a later date. All of them are 20-25cm in length and to me this seems a little big to use the whole fish.

Wondering what the thoughts are out there for the best way to bait them in the surf for... Well anything, sharks, salmon, Taylor...dare I say a nice Jew?

    Thanks everyone

  9. Had a few mates up this way today and decided to take advantage of the great weather. Found ourselves on the rocks and hardly at to wait for the bait to hit the bottom before the bites would come.

Every cast seemed to be a different species, catching all kinds of fish we have never seen before! Great fun day with plenty of fish.

Found a school of yellow tail at the end of the afternoon which have come home to be bait for tonight Jew session
