  1. I'm heading down there Sunday night for a fish too. A mate of mine needs a driver as he has a leg injury and as we know, wetting a line is the best cure for anything. We should share intel and get into some big kings.
  2. Hi raiders, Spent Thursday night and Friday between Brooklyn and west head, it was too windy to anchor in our favourite spot do we found a little cove that was about 2.5m deep. We set some rods with some fresh tailor and pillies and tried to get some sleep. Although the resident lizards had other ideas, we pulled in a dozen or so all of which were between 38 and 46cm (perfect) kept a few for a feed and had fun with the rest on light gear. Also pulled in a really nice bream about 45cm. As the sun broke the horizon there were bust ups everywhere. So I thought I'd try and catch my first fish on a blade. And with 6 casts pulled in 5 tailor. Woohoo! All undersized but fun all the same. Headed down to flint and steel and howly moley there would have been over a dozen boats there! Public holidays!! Now it was time to crack my first Jew. Sent down some squid and within 10 minutes it was getting some interest and then bang! Felt really heavy and strong and silly me doing my victory dance before the fish was at the boat... You guessed it, pop. Gone. Not a happy chappy. Another Jew (maybe) lost and another lesson learnt. Anyone else have any luck so far for the Easter weekend in the hawksbury.
  3. Hey raiders, watching the moon tonight just made my brain screem jewfish. Think I'm gunna head to the hawksbury tomorrow and stay out on the water till Saturday morning before work to hunt the elusive mulloway. I'm curious how far up the river some squid can be found and if anyone is willing to share a spot or two for a fellow raider to try and crack my first Jew. I'd keep any spot closely guarded if someone wants to pm me. If not, I'm sure the bridges and flint n steel will keep me occupied.
  4. Culburra beach had heaps of pipis years ago when I was last down there. I can't see why they wouldn't be there now. There's a lot of sand down there. The lake next to the beach had heaps of prawns too but the moon doesn't look right for Easter. Hope you have a great Easter weekend!
  5. Interesting story's guys, I'm heading out onto the bay tomorrow night, I will post any success story's.
  6. Just a quick report. Was down at wingdang landbased on dusk and a runout tide with a whole pilly under a float and I could see flathead busting the surface chasing baitfish. I've heard about it but it was the first time I've seen it with my own eyes. As they were active they couldn't resist my pilly and landed one perfect dinner size, 50cm. Not huge, however not bad for a 20 min fish.
  7. Great report, this is what fishraider is about. Years can be spent learning only a little about the elusive kingfish. The best thing to do is practice, practice, practice and fresh bait. At 75cm it would have been a great fight too! The water temp charts on the bom site is getting me exited and thinking that the really big kings are a real possibility if not now, in the near future. Good luck with getting your next king and here's to hoping it pushes the 1m mark! We're you inside or outside the harbour?
  8. That is molli in the background, that's where the livey was chomped. The flatty was caught (elsewhere), in about 15-20 feet of water, about an hour after low tide. It was definitely the calmest I have ever seen the bay. You couldn't get a smoother boat ride even in the nepean river!
  9. Fished the bay last night from about 8pm. As soon as we launched the boat, it started to rain so we hid under captn cook to stay dry, with not a bight for an hour and it starting to clear we headed out for a drift. Got an occy while chasin squid and that was about it. The conditions on the bay were perfect it was like glass the whole way across. With everything calm I put down a whole unweighted pilly and was very surprised to get my pb lizard, with spirits high I threw out a slimy to see who was hungry. After an hour soak I wanted to check his condition and he had been cleanly bitten in half. It was on a bait runner that didn't drag any line and you could get as good a cut from a meat cleaver . I think with teeth that sharp it could only have been a big shark. All up it was a great night on the bay and I can't wait to do a bit more night fishing.
  10. Hey Raiders, Wetting a new boat on Monday and wanted some ideas on spots/markers outside Botany, I dont really want to go as far as Browns, a kingy ground would be great. Did well on the lizards inside the bay last week, want some bigger things this time with the bigger boat. Also has anyone heard about the water condition of the bay lately? Cheers
  11. Clifton Gardens is a great spot for the kids, guaranteed catch with the possibility of something big.
  12. Yeah, the lighthouse is the one opposite the breakwall. I got my record salmon and jackets from the ocean side off the ledge. I was down wollongong today with the handbreak, the water looked great! I wished i took a rod with me. Hopefully the weather will be the same tomorrow. Heading to culburra for the day. Will post a report tomorrow with the results.
  13. Hi raiders, One of my favourate places for a fish is culburra, ( boat ramp and near the lighthouse,) I havnt been down there for years now. Anyone fished there lately? From memory, it was always worth the drive from sydney. Any fresh reports would be appreciated. Cheers.
  14. Yeah, was protecting the ol fella with the cotm item even tho im not eligible yet as a fresh member. Just showing my enthusiasm of my new fav website. I think I remember hearing something about port jacksons being on the release only list, altho i have been wrong before. I really enjoy eating what i catch but i dont think i could bring myself to kill one of them. And i dont feel that way about many fish, iv bled out salmon with my bare hands, there is just something about the jackson.
  15. Pic of the Port Jackson. I Think these guys are protected. Anybody know for sure? Great looking fish!
  16. Hi raiders, Spent the day in the harbour today. The sounder started going nuts at clifton gardens so we anchored and burleyd up. Heaps of small stuff for a while and then BANG. Now im guessing it was a king. Not much else feels like that. Played it for a few mins, got back a bit of line and then had a leader failure! Grrr. 1 min later, on again, this time got it to the side of the boat but then spat the hook! Estimating a metre. Altho i know if you dont weight, dont Say it, so lets just say it was big and wouldv been my record. After that they went cold so we headed about a k outside to see what was doing out there. Dropped my last livey down and it diddnt get to the bottom and he got hit. Pulled up a 70cm waist of a livey sergent baker. pulled up a few small things for an hour or so, then my 4 kg gar got really heavy. Not a huge fight but HEAVY for light line. It took me 20 mins or so to get a glimpse of a great port Jackson shark, 115cm. got a few pics and then sent him back home. 5 mins later we were on again and another port jackson came up. That was it for today, nothing for dinner, however a great day out on the water. Happy Fishing.
  17. Sounds good, looks like the weather will be fine aswell. Boat should be in the water by 6 so should be fishing the rising tide for the first half of the day. Any cracker spots for squid?
  18. Thanks guys, Is sow and pigs the reef that pops up at low tide in between Clifton gardens and the heads?
  19. I usualy fish botany however for a change of scenery we are taking the boat to the harbour tomorrow. I havnt fished there for ages, we would usually hang around clifton gardens, channel markers and outside and south along the cliffs. Anyone had success lately and would be kind enough to share some hot spots that are firing at the moment? Iv always got a livey out if possible and would really like to catch my first jew. Altho i would target snapper, flattys, kings that dont mind it cold, whatever! Any tips would be appreciated cheers!
  20. No secrets? Id love to know your spot that was full of those squid! Id even keep your secret you can pm me the details if you dont want it to go public. I know im being a bit cheeky however iv never done well when searching for them i have the good jap jigs i just dont know where they are. Cheers.
  21. Hi cdol9, I was out on monday last week and landed 3 whiting an 2 trevally while drifting the channel just before the georges opens into the bay. Then we headed out the heads and trawled the headland and were catching bonito for a few hours. We even had a few double hook ups, so it was an awsome day. Unfortunatly today diddnt provide a single fish. Big swell and more importantly strong wind. Thats Fishing!! Hopefully we will have better luck next week!
  22. Hi raiders, Spent the day in botany today, the wind was a bit strong early on so we hung around captain cook bridge. Nothing dong there and the wind backed off s we trolled some lures and a skip bait past the heads and south. The skip got smashes and had a wire trace bitten in half in about 5 secconds. The only other bit.of exitment was some curious wales 500m of shore. All in all a slow day ib the bay.
  23. Hi guys, im heading in to botany tomorrow 6am. Had great day last week with a few whiting and trevally inside. Then as the weather improved, we trawled some deep divers outside and we were on the bonito big time! It lasted about 3 hours and only finnished cos light was against us. If they show up tomorrow Id like to put one out as a livey. Anyone know what is around at the moment that might like a live bonnie?
  24. I am still waiting on a big jew. Just not my lucky fish!
  25. Thanks guys, He was 82cm. Its ro record, however it definitly made my day, and i willl always be talking about the monster flatty that took a live tailor (35cm).
