  1. nice fish there squid boy! I saw you guys anchor up at yellow marker and fish otta jump on that dive boat, I wonderd what was going on! how lucky to firstly hook the lost line and then find some divers to help out, should buy a lottery ticket! brett
  2. congrats on the kings, i probably did three laps of the harbour today trying to find some surface activity! every time I went left they must have gone right! I saw you guys over at the wave bouy at quarentine, i was in the white and red half cabin, I had no luck there but spoke to another boat that I saw there back at the ramp and those boys got a couple of legals , smoked a couple of times and hooked up to a big shark, the guy that hooked it had to jump on to no no nos boat and chase! lots of big boys with teeth around! Brett.
  3. I spent a fair bit of time in the harbour just after the western cake fell, they had bouys out around it and a barge there recovering it, and then a couple days later there was only a temporary port marker in its place, so i guess its gone! there where plans to replace them both in early 07 anyway, just a note the eastern one was erected in c1906 and western in about 1924 so they have had a good life! even survived midget japanese subs! brett

    Wahooo.

Ewan, congrats on your first wahoo! I 've been surprised by the number of reports of wahoo coming in. are you fishing out of Sydney or are you further north? Brett
  5. There was a slight sea running but apart from the rain it was really good out there, no where near 3mtrs don't know what site put that up? Brett
  6. Went out this mourning for a quick fish before the family head over for dinner, left botany at about 6 and headed north looking for some surface activity, didn't see much until little bay where i found a small school of rats, cast trolled trough them for zip pulled and cast sluggos at them for nothing switched to a small slice and had the whole school on its tail! hooked up to one that started really taking line thinking it might be a decent fish and only fishing 4kg line I went to tighten the drag a touch only to have the rod snap in my hands! the fish was still on but being braid I wanted to keep all of my fingers attached and so decided against hand lineing the fish in! reached for a glove but he was off bythe time I got it! Headed to coogee and threw the pick heaps on the sounder and after hooking a few wrase and parrot fish, I hooked another rat king, some of his mates followed him up and i had a number of small kings at the back of the boat that i was chucking squid to. made my way back to botany keeping an eye out for some activity found a small school at maroubra had a few casts and hooked what felt like a nice fish worked him to the boat looked over the side to see a nice king that was foul hooked! In my hast I grabbed the leader instead of netting him only to watch the hooks pull and the fish swim off! Just another day on the water Brett
  7. good effort there Kelvin, Its true dedication to go out in this weather went out on tuesday in much the same conditions, its hard to even keep the boat straight when downrigging with the wind blowing you around! brett
  8. mate I also headed out from tunks at about the same time on sat mourning headed straight to balmoral for yakkas and scored plenty in about half an hour, burlied up using chook pelets always seems to work for me! however didn't seem to matter as me and a mate where trolling the harbour with a live yakka on one downrigger and squid on the other and the squid was the only one that got a look in. better luck next time brett
  9. went out wed night and picked a likely looking spot to try for squid around bare island spent the night there with jigs and squid spikes out all night tried a few spots but only managed one squid, allthough he was huge and so i decided he would be for dinner instead of bait. I really need to get a better handle on catching squid! started early this mourning downrigging the head from botany bay, north with a plan to head up to wedding cake island. got sick of the slow going after about an hour and so threw out a couple of small skirts to speed things up, didn't have to wait long scored a rat king just out from little bay. continued trolling untill i got to the southern head land off maroubra, came across some surface activity which i thought was a school of salmon threw a small slice at them hooked up and after a nice little battle I was expecting to see a healthy aussie salmon, but to my surprise it was another rat king. turned out they were all kings landed about four more and then headed off to try and find some larger adversaries. got to coogee and started to drift over some bait showing on the sounder with squid head got another two rats but nothing with size. the long night was taking its toll so started back towards botany had acouple more casts at the school on my way back through landed a couple more one was actually legal but only just! I needed something for my efforts so into the ice he went. back out on sat mourn hopefully have as much activity but a bit more size!! brett Has anyone had some reliable reports about the dollies turning up yet
  10. mate, I,m not a local from up there but my family are and I ' ve been going there for about 22 years, so here's what I've learn't. Head to north entrance beach any where from the mouth to where the old tip was find yourself a nice looking gutter and fish that if you try to fish the incoming tide right up untill its full and from dusk into the night will be your best chance of scoring. There have been some good jews taken from last reports also a few salmon arond the edge of the breakers try using good quality or fresh squid is even better for the jews and pilllies for the salmon good luck brett
  11. nice wobby there mate! wobbies are great eating some say 5 star, they are supposed to be becoming pretty rare around the nsw coast though so best that you put him back! brett

  15. good to hear of the dollies coming in can't wait till they really fire up!
  16. went out at sun up this mourning, got some good sized livies at balmoral and headed out to north head to troll them around no takers on the way to bluefish point or on the return leg but there where huge schools of salmon boiling it looked to good to go past so in came the live baits and out went the slices, had a ball hooked up to heaps, landed a few all on light gear so they gave a good account of themselves weren't even very boat shy for a change which is promising. headed back in to see if we could score a kingy or two around MH but to no avail i'll have to get lessons from kelvin he's slaying them! or maybe just stalk him around the harbour. still great day on the water brett
  17. it gets the blood going hearing tales of big kings in the harbour hopefully there will be plenty more, as for how long to fight a fish there is an old saying that you'll lose a fish when the fisherman loses his patience, if you want to see big kings get played in the harbour watch xxxxxxxxxx fishing those guys hook up on some big kings on 50 and 80 pound gear and can't stop them! at least you got a look at him!!
  18. it was a center console trailcraft i have seen the same two guys out in it before doing the same thing!
  19. headed out before first light this mourning, put in at rose bay and headed to balmoral to try and score a few livies and hopefully some squid. plenty of yakkas but they were pretty big and no squid as the sun came up there was a large school of tailor feeding close to us so had a go at them with a few slices and came up trumps got a couple just over 40cm, decided to take the yakkas out and slow troll them off north head but nothing was interested there was a large school of salmon out there but they where pretty flighty and the fact that some tosser trying to catch them on fly was continually driving straight through the middle of the school didn't help me or the other boats having a go at them! WHAT IS IT WITH SOME PEOPLE! then went to the northern wedding cake and burlied up, brought a few trevs around heaps of bait fish and squire as well, my mate bought a rod off sammy0884 last night absolutely great outfit he tried to christen it today to no avail, he had one really solid hook up that started peeling line but then dropped it, i thought he had been busted off but when he got the line in the knot had just slipped!!! hard way to learn to tie your connections properly!
  20. Hi guys, first post but been following the site for a while. All of the YFT reports got me keen so went out with Predator charters from Kiama on the 26th of last month with a few mates one of whom is also a raider. Headed out about 8am hoping to let the wind drop, it didn't but went anyway. Bumpy ride out there but well worth it, cubed for about an hour before we scored our first fin about 30kgs then the flood gates opened and it wasn't only rain, we scored another 7 fin in the next couple of hours all 30-40kgs with fin swimming freely right up to the boat to basicaly take the cubes right out my hand, double hook ups where common. Decided to troll for a while because we where running out of pillies and the skipper wanted to save some for the arvo, but really we where hoping for a bit of a break because we where all stretched allready, any there was no rest for the wicked, lures in the water for no more then 2 minutes and we had a tripple hookup, for the next couple of hours double, tripple and quadruple hookups where the norm! in the end we landed 18 dropped 6 at the boat and had countless other strikes. Headed home with them still smashing bait all over the place, couldn't lift our arms any more. One of the best days fishing of my life! The other boys have the photos ill have to get them and post them also have some vid try to post that to.
