  4. Hey raiders, got one spare spot available tommorrow for a day out off Sydney, a bit of experience would be preferable as I'm taking a newbie out for his first time. Will be splitting bait and fuel costs so it will work out 55-60 dollars each for the 3 of us. Will be launching around 630 at wharf rd ermington(near putt putt) but can pick you up from Any wharfs in the river or harbour if that would be easier, cheers Mitch
  5. Hi Muzza, Scored a couple of Kingys on Monday at Sow and Pigs . Was burlying up Slimies and they turned up in the trail. I had live squid, slimies, yellowtail, sluggos and Poppers but they wouldnt touch anything other then unweighted 4lb hand lines and my bait jigs . Ended up putting on a slightly bigger/heavier bait jig cut in half which resulted in a couple of rats on seperate drops , both undersize around 55cm but still fun . Mitch
  6. Hi mate, When chasing Dollies we try and grab a few Livies on the way out ,it can usually entice the bigger Dollies from the school.Upon arrival at the FAD we troll a mix of Lures usually a small Lumo skirt , a Rapala or similar diving lure and a larger skirt incase something bigger decides to play. After trolling we usually set up camps and drift down current from the FAD and set up a consistent burley trail without going nuts. A big mistake is that alot of blokes basically sit right on top of the fad, we have even seen an idiot or two tie off the Bouy #*%$@# , which is a big NO NO. Then start chucking mass amounts of burley in the water. Instead of Dollies all it attracts are the smallest kingys you are ever likely to see (fish around 30cm) , and it sends the dollies down deeper. When fishing with baits, fish as light as you can get away with and little or even no sinker if conditions suit. A general running sinker rig with about a metre trace of 20/30lb flurocarbon will be enough for your standard FAD dollies , all the way down to a set of hang hooks or a single hook whether it be a suicide or Live bait hook. Let your baits float down naturally as possible with your burley trail as you would when your cubing for yellowfin or floating baits for snapper. Some days Dollies will hit anything thrown at them, ranging from a bare hook to a peeled prawn. But over the last few years ive found that these days are few and far between as more and more people fish the FADS and the dollies are begining to wise up. So fish for them light and you should manage to snare a few If you have anymore question feel free to pop me a PM Mitch
  7. thanks so much mate great stuff!! kind regards Mitch
  8. try Balmoral for both mate. Last weekend we found a few schools of Slimies just off Middle head
  9. Gday Raiders, Heading down to lake Illawara for a week with a mate for the first time. We'll be mainly fishing in the actual lake itself chasing flatties with a mix of Hardbodys, blades and plastics but if the weather allows we'd like to jump outside and have ago. Just wondering what the bar is like and if its even navigable? Have tried to do a bit of research on google but havent found anything. cheers in advanced, Mitch
  10. Gday Mero . Nambucca heads mmmm what a great place! I'd take Narooma or SWR combined with a strong Nor easter over that bar anyday, We've been stupid enough to cross that bar twice, mind you the first time crossing was ok, but the 2nd time well...... never again. A few locals and trawlers still do use it (including an old family friend- he heads out but is back before 10 am. This bloke has also crossed the Manning river Bar at Taree and the Bellinger river , all 3 are defiantely the worst in NSW and are considered hardly passable, so in other words he has a death wish lol . As for the fishing mate the reefs fish very well for big snapper at this time of the year so you should be in for a great time. I'd be happy to give you marks so send me a PM if youd like Cheers Mitch
  11. Top work brettmann. Ive had a fair bit of success on those Octo jigs over the last year, even found them to be out fishing the lucanus jigs. Squidboy the Valiants a well known Wreck off Barenjoey Headland. It usually holds baitfish and reef species like small Snapper, Mowies, Sweep etc . In summer Kingfish are often caught there to on livebaits and weighted soft plastics. The GPS mark- 33 34 795 151 20 655 Hope this helps, Mitch
