  1. I had a 429 rampage with a yamaha cv30. Plenty of power. I towed tubes, fished, cruzed. But yeah it was thirsty and noisy and was a shit to start most of the time. Surely a 40hp 4 banger with the right prop would be adequate. Or go for an etec 30hp? Maintenamce on a 2stroke is dead simple and cheap. 4 stroke a bit more in depth for the average dude. My boat was stable as can be and i would carry 4 fat dudes no probs with 30hp of two stroke fury.
  2. On my Seafarer venus, i had to use bigger screws drilled into fresh holes. No problems now.
  3. Thats a ripper day! Top effort. What was your most successful rig?
  4. smoke level and smell is same as brp xd50. I can not pick any fifference in performance between the two. I even checked a plug and found the same carbon build up as xd50. At $25 for 3.8L thats pretty good.
  5. At one point i tried running caltex vortex 98 and BRP xd100 synthetic two stroke oil. Ran smooth and smoke free. Too expensive tho at a $riddiculous for fuel and $80 for oil.
  6. Which oil do you use? It should idle ok but yes an older tech 2 stroke outboard will have the occassional shudder and cough. A bit of smoke on the muffs is normal. You can see it easier as there is no lake/sea water covering up the smoke.
  7. I guess thats why its the old one. What did you upgrade to?
  8. Compression check- What PSI would be an ideal reading from the cylinders on my 1998 Johnson Oceanrunner 90hp? The motor has 360hrs of normal recreational use.
  9. Pretty sure it is a US import. Synthetic blend.
  10. Hi there, Whitworths is selling 3.8L of Starbrite Super Premium TCW3 2 stroke oil for $25. Does anyone have any experience with this oil? Smokiness, carbon build up etc
  11. Hi there, Whitworths is selling 3.8L of Starbrite Super Premium TCW3 2 stroke oil for $25. Bargain for a synthetic blend. Does anyone have any experience with this oil? Smokiness, build up etc
  12. These are all great inputs thankyou. How do the DI compare pricewise to the 4 strokes?
  13. Hi Robsrock, yeah the old OMC 90s are up there in cc's for the horse power. V4 vs 3 cylinder for other brands.
  14. This is for a 5m Seafarer Venus. Fairly heavy boat.
  15. Hi there fishraiders, I would like your suggestions for a 1998 90hp Johnson Ocean Runner replacement. The old girl has treated me reasonably well, it has 360hrs on it. But I am considering a repower. I am thinking of going another carbed 2 stroke as I have a feeling the initial purchase and running costs will prob never meet the purchase cost of a new DI or new 4 stroke. What are your thoughts and why? Make model pros and cons. Cheers Please noone suggest parsun
  16. Thanks for the reply Fab1, so is 82 cooler than 78? Or are the numbers broken down further? Also why do you recommend NGK?
  17. Hi there, Can anyone shed some light on the difference between a Champion QL78YC and a QL82C? I want to find out if they are similar or totally different. Cheers
  18. Hi there, Does anyone know if kurnell boat ramp at Bonna point is able to be used later this week? I am guessing it copped some damage last weekend.
