  1. Thanks for the help guys. I think now i need to get out there and start exploring. Bring on the long summer days!
  2. can squid be eaten from the harbour?
  3. Mate, I am going to go put a tenner on them for the premiership. They actually looked like a real Rugby league team the other night! (I am a Roosters/ Carlton supporter.. Its been a long couple of years, so any sniff of a win is something I get excited about!!!)
  4. So, is it legal to fish from Balmoral wharf? Maybe its worth taking a stroll around the harbour this arvo to scope them out. Is there a cluster of wharves that I could use as a starting place? And at this stage, the decision of eating fish or not is not one that I will have to make.. in my 6 or 7 attempts of fishing in sydney, i'm yet to reel in a fish - let alone one for the table! Hence the reason why i am now trying to find more relaxing ways of "fishing" until i can get a bit of confidence back...
  5. With this cool weather, and early sunsets, I was thinking about exploring some wharves around the harbour. Can anyone tell me about the rules regarding fishing from wharves? Which wharves are the best? I'm just looking for somewhere relaxing that i can catch a bus to, drop a line in for a couple of hours, and hopefully pick up some dinner. Cheers
  6. Has anyone been fishing landbased in this area lately? Will be going down there sunday, just wondering where my best chance is, and what bait to use? (and time of day/tide etc..) Also a mate of mine is keen to play with a few lures. I've fished around the area a number of times without any success, so all I am after is a table-sized bream, and I will be the happiest fisherman in sydney. I'm open for other suggestions for locations too, as long as they are easily accessible by publlic transport from kensington/kingsford. Also, any tips for squidding in the area? i have a couple of 4 dollar squid jigs, once again, they have been flicked around in Lapa without any success.. Thanks guys Jaz
  7. Just wondering if anyone has tried making their own pudding baits for catching bream? The reason i ask is having to take public tranport, it is hard enough to get to the beach itself, let alone try to source some fresh bait as well. So how do these puddings compare? And what recipes to people use?
  8. cheers guys.. looking forward to learning a lot Jarrod
  9. haha.. my goals are much more simple... being relatively new to this, i just want to catch an eatable bream from the beach..
  10. This reminds me... And i am sure that this topic has been well covered somewhere on these forums, but I cant find it at the moment, so my apologies. There has been so much press about poisonous fish around sydney. As someone new to the area who is hoping to do a bit of beach fishing and hopefully take home a bit of a feed aswell, is there anything that I need to be worried about? Cheers Jarrod
  11. Are there any regulations that I should be careful of in this area? for example, some parts are IPA's and even though i have read what that means, i still dont completely understand what this means exactly.. I am aching to get out there.. even just to have a look at some of these places and find which ones might be suitable/safe enough for me... but it is pissing down right now, and i don;t think it will clear up by tomorrow morning. :-/ ......
  12. Yeah, thanks for the advice guys.. I think i will skip uni and take a bus to maroubra tomorrow morning and just take a bit of a look, and see if i can find some of these places, and then hopefully get back down there on saturday (or maybe friday!) for a bit of a fish.... probably from the north corner.. green prawn meat from the supermarket good enough for a beginer? we'll see how that goes and take it from there. I will keep in touch and hopefully soon i can graduate to rocks for proper! Also, how would i go just fishing from the shore? is it worth a try or are rocks the go? cheers guys
  13. Sounds like a lot of fun... I might head to one of those places in the next couple of days most likely maroubra. What is the best way to yellow rock? I have a 6'6'' rod at the moment, so hopefully that is enough to get me started. Are there usually many fishermen around that area i might be able to watch to get a bit of an idea of how it is done? Thanks for the help Cant wait to get out there
  14. to give you a bit of an idea, I grew up in the country, going fishing a few times a year in lake hume for redfin. So i am neither very experienced, nor well equiped. I am prepared to buy some gear.. possibly spending up to about 200 bucks.. I am happy to fish for just about anything.. just hoping to learn. So, yeah.. i am basically looking for a few pointers on a solid, safe place to fish and what gear i should get to do so successfully. nothing too fancy.. And Mondo, i may have to take you up on the offer sometime - will PM you when I have some gear.
  15. Hi guys, Just wondering if anyone can help me out with some land based fishing spots around the eastern suburbs. I have only ever fished on lakes before, but am now living in Kingsford with no car or boat, and hoping that there is somewhere I can still fish - particularly as summer rolls around. I dont mind walking as far as coogee or maroubra, or somewhere like that. Thanks for the help
