  1. I was feeling a little deflated..... cos my trev was so small....
  2. Hi All - just a quickie to say Sat morning was quiet on the salmon front - but provided loads of bus sized Yakkas and even some Trevors on Soft plastics. I am just posting this to show the difference a pose can make in presenting the "true" size of the fish! Picture1 - the fish as it is: Now the fish as it should be: See - thats how to make a picture lie!! And who said I can tell a lie with a straight face!!! Chewy ps - sorry for not disguising the background... but I dont care, and also - by the amount of boats around the WR bouy - the secrets already out!!!
  3. Makes me Jealous that you are on the Kingeys so early!! I need to get me one of those downrigger thingys!! Nice fish! ! Chewy
  4. Wow!! Awesome fish!! Nice to see that this humble city of Sydney can produce some not so humble fish!! That should feed the family for a while!! Chewy
  5. Went out on an early one on Sunday morning for fish. After doing to the 5 am swim out to the boat - thanks Polly - we went straight for the livies off Balmoral... NONE to be found!! No prob - we headed out and looked for bird life ... Not a problem at all - you'd have to have been blind not to find any!! There were Salmon a plenty working the north head all the way to the Waverider Buoy. Anyhow - small slices / white 3" soft plastics were the go!! The fly guys were cleaning up as usual - so my old trick of a small barrel sinker with a fly (or plain hook) trailing it netted my Girlfriend the first of her Salmon... Salmon after salmon were on the surface – Trevors were picking off the slower retrieved plastics underneath. We cahsed for about 4 hours and I must say - it was nice to see little Dee out-fish her boy!! Made me feel like she actually listens to me sometimes!! The only drawback to the day - were the Yobs that incessantly would cut a swath through the middle of the school driving them down. Now I must admit - a 4am wakeup call had made Chewy a little ratty - ratty enough to hurl some constructive abuse at a cubby boat of four that was repeat offending! Now blow me away if they actually got the message and started to approach the school from the sides and not through the middle. Lesson learnt: 1 - Constructive advice can actually work some times 2 - Well done to those blokes for listening to me and learning how to become better fisherfolk! (PS - sorry I yelled!) So – a good day was had out by all – sorry no photos – as we were all too enthralled by the voracious schools to take any photos!! Chewy
  6. Went out on Uncle Mervs loooovely Triumph .... wow - all boats should be that kewl!!! Headed for the fad at 6am. Someone please tell uncle Merv - the live bait well is for LIVE bait and not a block of pilchards!!! Ever seen what happens to a block - after its spent a few hours in a washing machine? It was rough stuff - not a single intact pilchard in sight!!! And even worse it took us half an hour to get the suckers out of the outlet pipe!! Anyhow - to the details - got to the fad... and yes!! My first dollie... and then my lovely dee's first dollie, and then Unc mervs first one ..... and many more to come!!! So if you ever go Dollie hunting - get the skankiest old washed out pilles you can - and this is the result: Lost a beauty thinking I didnt need the gaff.... wont make that mistake again!!! Anyhow great day - thanks Merv!! about 15 fish in all - lots released -and some in my tummy!!! Heres lovely Dee and hers (and mines) first Dollie collection! Can wait to get out again!! Chewy
  7. Well- we have probably all seen this photo - but here's a gentle reminder to say there is always something bigger out there to catch: Cheers Chewy
  8. Spot the Fish!! The crock was 3-4 m..... look hard and you might spot the catfish!!! Imagine that on an 8 pound fireline bream stick! I used to catch em in my youth (not on bream sticks!) - but I must say - I would have relished one this big!!! The photo was taken last week near the Kruger national park in south africa. Enjoy Chewy
  9. Heres the old Seargeant baker - caught by Merv...... Chewy
  10. Glad I listened to the posts and gave Browns a wide berth. Early Sat morn - hit the waters by 6:30 and went a looking. Finally invited my girlie to somewhere other that the rocks - and finally she got that fish. Anyhow final tally for the day between four of us from longreef and Avalon reefs was couple of nice reddies, two kingies - 55cm and 61cm yay I broke my 07 kingie drought), the regular Monster PJ that was intent on getting to know me better. I on the other hand did not want his little love bites. Loads of wrasses, a few drummer, a sergeant baker Little Dee got a nice trevor and a few Slimeys. Glad her new tackle is finally broken in. Here she is..... happy as! Thanks to the gang on board - I learnt a few things from Upu - the PNGian handline fisho that taught me a thing or two about handlines....... although I am going to have to witness first hand a Marlin catch on handline beofore I will believe it.... Anyhow - great day out. THanks Merv for the invite to be your deckie........anytime!! Chewy
