Went out on the weekend and picked up Kings & Salmon on fly. I think Summer has begun! Mark Hooked up

We need some sustained good weather & the Kings will fire up.
-
I was using a 12wt. I was under severe pressure. The Kingies know where the reef is, and head there at light speed-true Hoodlums.
-
Scratchie You were too quick-I corrected the mistake two minutes after posting!

Went out last week and found a few Kings. The biggest went 82cm.The fly rod had a serious bend on the big Kingies.

We got belted by the doggies in shallow water.I had 10/0 hooks straightened out on fly and one of the guys melted a 20000 reel. These fish were up to 60 + kg! My fly gear was under extreme pressure. This is a 16 wt on a GT. Another guy took pics of the Spaniards on fly on his camera and file was too big to upload.

Went out to Ashmore reef last week.Flew to Cairns/Horn Island/Yorke Island Then went a further 110 km out on a mothership. We fished out of dories/CCs.I fished mainly fly. Big White Tip Oceanic Whalers everywhere-not the place to fall in. Big packs of GTs;Dogtooth Tuna;Spaniards and many more. We went to a place called the Bluehole.A 'lake' inside there reef with a sandy bottom, mommies and big fish.We dived there-beautiful. Mark Bluehole

I had a week Kingie fishing in NZ. We did OK this year. The Kings co-operated for the most part. We had a few double hook ups.My mate used jigs. Not all smooth sailing-I lost a few fly lines and broke a rod.Inevitable with such big fish. All were released. Mark Hooked up & in trouble! A few kings

The first run was awesome and generally the sea was flat. The lit up fish at the boat was spectacular. Mark

Last week I went to Rompin (Malaysia) to flyfish for Sailfish. We stayed in a house with good food and a good boat crew. The sails are difficult on fly.Not easy to tease to the boat,Small boney mouths and with the acrobatics-they are adept at throwing the hooks! There was a one second window to cast the fly;hook up if the planets were aligned; and then hang on to try to survive to wild jumps! But they are very rewarding when you do hook up.The first run at lightspeed is 150 meters-they are the fastest fish in the ocean! All were released of course. I snared a few. The wharf. Cheers Mark

Roberta, The guys don't berley for kings there. We fished the haunts and the snapper was a good but delicious bycatch! Mark

Just got back from NZ.The kings were a bit more wary this year, but we did OK.On fly I got salmon, snapper and some hoodlums. I lost some gear (a flyline) to the rampaging kings, but the trip was enjoyable. On fly this year the kings would not touch any fly on >30lb leader. It made fighting hoodlums in bad shallow country interesting! The weather was good and we ate well-a good trip. Mark Hooked up!

Kings are a bit like Barra-lazy creatures until hooked up-then they go crazy! Therefore I use a standard retrieve mostly-sometimes a quicker retrieve is required. Mark
-
Rob, It took about 5 minutes. With kings I find if you give no quarter, you get them in quickly- if not they normally get you! Mark

I'm not in your league-you blokes are the experts whose results we try to emulate. Mark

The kings are about -but wary and elusive, after all the hardware thrown at them over the summer! I caught up with a few of them today. The biggest went 83cm-a solid tussle on a 12wt in bad country. Mark
