  1. Went out both days.On Friday I landed two rats and and was blown away down deep by a bruiser. My 25lb leader had no chance. Today was excellent. Both days I saw very big fish.Today I landed an 82cm and a 78 cm king on fly. The bigger king went back and I kept the smaller one.The pic is of the smaller king. Mark

    Salmon Action

The schools are variable and weather/tide dependent

    Salmon Action

I return all salmon to swim away.I keep the odd kingie only. Mark.
  4. Good salmon action in Sydney in the last few a days on fly.During the recent wild weather I'd be hooked up in close with a 4m wave on my tail! it's good that weather has abated. Plenty of hook ups on fly and some of the sambos are around 70cm and fat. I also hooked up a good king on16lb salmon leader-no chance. Mark

    Salmon 20/8/10

Dan, Once you get the hang of it,it's as easy as jigging or downrigging-and very productive. And you are always doing something. It's not what I'd call static fishing! Mark

    Salmon 20/8/10

I think it works due to the bend in the 'long wand' and the reel at the end of the rod, rather than 1 ft away from the end. Mark
  7. Went out today and found good schools of cooperative salmon-boated a few on fly. Mark
  8. Dan, I've been getting a few salmon lately, and a couple of kings in the harbour of late. The kings are there as you have demonstrated (and the sounder goes berserk at times)-but getting them to bite is another story! I fool them with the fly on occasion. Mark
  9. Well done-I've fished next to Dan and Greg on occasion with the fly,and I am always impressed with their results. They always do well. Mark
  10. Went out on 30/6 and 2/7 and found some very nervous schools of salmon.I do not know why-they haven't seen a boat/fly/or lure for 8 months! I hooked up a few on fly both days, rewarding because as usual they are hard to catch. Mark
  11. Rob, Thanks,I'll take that advice onboard. Luke, Unfortunately no video-but a video of those big queenies;GTs smashing the poppers;flies would have been good. Regards, Mark
  12. I have caught Black Bass in PNG-I had a world record,as the category had just begun, and I got a big one to the boat on fly ;landed it only to find I had 30lb leader on-all WRs on fly are only allowed 20lb leader! I got another big one later in the week to the boat on 20lb-and lost it-these are the breaks. I've tried to upload the pic of the big one I landed but it has too many bytes. I'll try again. Cheers Mark
  13. Finally hooked up on fly.
  14. Here are some of the GTs;Fingermark and Spaniards. They came around the boats repeatedly and could be caught on fly;jigs;lures etc. Mark
  15. Just got back after spending two weeks on a mothership which had 2 jet dories. We went between Kunnunara and Broome. We went to 'secret' reefs 40 miles offshore, and inshore.I used mainly fly and landed GTs;Spaniards;Queenies and enormous Fingermark-those things pull like Black Bass! I also used the jig on occasion-the takes were electric. Mark
  16. Great to see you guys handle those kings.I hooked up a few and landed an 80cm king and a smaller one-and lost 4 big ones, all on fly.One of those was at the boat.If I had known what was going to happen,I would have brought the big flygear and used 60lb leader instead of 25lb.It all bodes well for the future. Cheers Mark.
  17. The last couple of days in the Harbour have been unprecedented-I've never seen kings of such size.Today I caught an 80cm and a 67cm king on fly.I had a metre job to the boat, and lost it at the net.I also lost 3 more big kings down deep-one of which nearly fractured my hand as I tried to stop it by palming the flyreel. Great sessions! I can't upload the pics as my camera uses too many bytes-I'll go back to my old camera in future.I was using 25lb leader-I needed 60lb on those fish! Cheers Mark
