  1. Hey,

I have fished Dee Why from 4-10 and had some great results. You should patrol the whole beach as too look for the gutters. The really good ones may not be in the centre of the beach. AT dusk, the Salmon, Trevally and bream are abundant. I have caught an 80cm Aussie Salmon, and the guys next to me have caught a heap of trevally and a few bream, with 2 salmon.

At night we had a shovelnose shark as well as two jewfish bites. We struck too early however. If you really want to learn how to get really good at it I would suggest going out with Alex Bellissimo. He is a great guide and will help you with techniques and beach fishing skills.

Cheers mate, i'm going to fish the morning rising tide and the start of the run out so hopefully i'll have some success.

  2. Well done on the catch mate! Lots of action by the sounds of it. It's kind of nice to know i'm not the only one who can't quite suss out the SP's.

Been craving a feed of Whiting which i'm going to try and bag on Saturday, as some of us still have to work! Wish the holidays were longer!!! Will be heading to Dee Why to try off the beach, by the sounds of it i'll have to sneak up to the lake for a bit as well.

  3. Hi Mark

I live at Dee Why and have just come back from getting some beach worms on Narrabeen Beach - straight down from the little car park on the right just north of the fire station (across the road from the servo). There are heaps there, but it takes a little time (I am not the best at it!!).

Haven't tried at Dee Why Beach.

    Cheers

    Mike

Cheers for the tip Mike, i might just head up Narra to get my worms then. Although you'd think if they were at Narra that they'd be at Dee Why. I might give Dee Why a go too and let you know how i go.

    Cheers,

  4. G'day Mark.

Try the centre of Dee Why beach at night for jewies. Use squid strips or mullet fillets on a falling tide and

    you should get amongst 'em.

Also heard good reports of whiting during the day using blood worms.

Haven't been down for a while myself, just 2nd hand info.

    Good fishing.

    Pete.

Thanks mate, i mainly want to chase Whiting for a feed, don't have a heavy outfit for Jewies at the moment.

  6. Hi guy's.

I'm heading to Dee Why on Saturday for a beach fish. Can anyone tell me if the good old drag a piece of rotten meat over the worm holes and grab them as they come up method would work on that beach? Are there alot of beach worms on Dee Why beach or any of the northern beaches?

    Cheers.

  7. My worst trip was about 8 years ago.

The old man had just purchased a new half cabin. We took it down the Lane Cove River for a run when suddenly the outboard shatt itself. Pulled up on the sandbar under the Figtree Bridge to check it out. Standing in waste high water with the cover off the outboard having a look in when i feel something brush past me and a bit of a stir in the water. I look back :1yikes: it's a shark! Turned on me again! Not sure what type just saw the fin and tail but i estimated it to be anywhere between 3-4m. Jumped back in the boat like an Olympic Gymnist. Still scares the living you know what out of me to think it could have had my leg if it wanted. Got the outboard going again but in this time the tide had dropped and we were stranded on the bar. Had to wait 4 hours for the tide to come back in. Only good thing was in that time we caught about 4 keeper flathead off the bar :biggrin2:

  8. If you're going to use braid for trolling, Id be using a very large mono leader.

As i do, i have trialing using 50lb Braid with about 2 meters of 80lb mono just to save from switching rigs between jigging & trolling ( i know, lazy) but to my surprise i've had no issues to date, havn't dropped many fish at all.

  9. Dan -after a bust up I need counselling for a couple of days and I can tell ya no matter how many kings you have landed, it still hurts everytime you lose one. But being busted off is par for the course. It is rarer now but still happens. By the way I think I would have more leader on than just 1meter. This length is OK for fishing at anchor but not for trolling. I have several meters of fluorocarbon tied with an albright on a doubled piece of braid.

As I have put on Shane's post, I am getting alot of second hand fish lately as a lot of fish i get already have hooks in them!! Cheers kelvin

Kelvin that'll do me mate! Their probably ones you've caught before, i'm sure you've caught every Kingie in the harbour so it doesn't surprise me your starting to double over :074:

  10. Hi Raiders.

Just after some info on weather conditions to lookout for when heading offshore (Sydney Heads, Barrenjoey) I run a 16ft Carribean that's geared up to head out, but i'm wondering what conditions such as wind direction, etc should you take notice of in the predicted forecast. Also what is the recommended radio frequency to use when checking in and out when heading offshore. I have been researching but me and computers

  11. I have not looked into that yet so I can not help unfortunately.

But some one will pop up with the right info soon I am sure.

    Robbie.

Appreciate your help mate. I've been in the help desk and it's given me absolutely nothing!

    Cheers,
