  1. Well you know Roberta, its dry runs like this that keep the whole thing interesting. It would get boring if you brained them every time you went out!

When you get back into them with a vengeance it will be all the more thrilling.

BTW, if there's no weed around, how about pumping some nippers and throwing a few unweighted where you think the luderick should be. Quite a thrill catching them this way.

  2. Thanks for the replies guys. I will try 7 mile next time!

It didn't matter too much I was fishless. That part of the coast is drop dead gorgeous, with the rolling green pastures right up to the waters' edge. And we had some damn fine sausages and chops on the BBQ!

    I will return!

  3. Just had an enjoyable couple of days with family at Gerroa. Managed to pull some worms on Seven Mile Beach and had a cast at Werri Beach yesterday arvo and this morning. Some bites with no hookups yesterday and not even a bite this morning, which was surprising using live beachworms. Werri Beach has a deep drop-off at the waters edge.

Have not fished there before, any locals know it? It looks prime beach jew locale.

What has happened to whiting fishing on the East Coast? When I was a kid, even on the crowded Sydney beaches, if you had live worms you could keep catching whiting until you got sick of them. Now 3 or 4 is big catch. Very disappointing.

  4. Hi guys

A bit of advice required here. Used to take the 4WD many years ago onto Wanda Beach via Boat Harbour track.

Planning to do an evening fish there soon. Do the national park people shut the gates so you have to stay until the morning to get out of there?

  5. G'day fishos

Wondering if anyone could give me some info on beaches in the SE QLD/NE NSW that have a steep slope/bank with shorey waves?

I'm new to the area and just got my lure box sent up from SA...time to hit some gutters!

Figured you guys would know best

    Appreciate any help I get

    Thanks

Dude, I no longer live there, but The beaches to the north of Coffs Harbour (Korora, Sapphire) drop off into deep water. When I lived there I didn't really chase the jewies that hard but caught a few small ones of 2 - 3 kg. But many others made a regular habit of pulling some truly large jew of the beaches there. One weekend I caught a bucket of beachworms and gave them to my friend who used them over the weekend (I went away). He caught 10 jew over 10kg in 3 nights (returning most of them). This was of course one of those rare golden weekends (lucky if he ever repeated that effort), but if you want deep drop-off beaches, then north of Coffs is your go.

  6. Hear hear, an absolute monster trip of a lifetime you've had there mate. Loved the description of your jaw hurting from laughter. Thanks for sharing the pics and memories.

I hope between work and family I get there one day too. One thing's for sure, when you look back one day when it's time to check out, you won't be regretting doing this trip. Splendid.

  7. Great report, Roberta.

Just a thought about the dropped fish - small hooks as used for luderick pull through easily. Do you think if you tried a mono trace with a bit of stretch in it it might go better than the fireline? Of course there are some days when you just seem to drop a lot of fish and it makes you wonder what you're doing wrong, and maybe there's no reason.

  8. its a pity when location and details are missed in these fishing reports. Myself and many others

are starting out, few helpful hints would always be appreciated.

    regards ilk

He did say the Harbour. No offence, but it really is up to the person whether they want to share their exact spot with hundreds of people, even if they are raiders.

  9. Roberta, what kind of reel do you use for blackfish? I thought being a blackfish specialist you'd be using a centrepin like an Avon or Steelite, but you mentioned you had drag on when you lost that big fish. Just curious.

Also, how do you cook them? I used to fish for them all the time (almost always of the Sydney Eastern Suburbs rocks). I agree if you kill, fillet, skin and remove the blood line they are fine to eat, but I could never get them to taste like bream and whiting.
