  7. Love that post! Stupid question - what is the deal with blue swimmers do they move in/out of the river system on different tides/seasons? Gonna have a crack this Sunday. Cheers Andy
  8. Awesome fish mate and even better doing it solo style Cheers
  9. Sounds like it would be right up their alley! Do you end up trying out any of the perfumes?!?! At least the place would smell nice... We get all our Thai food supplies from "Thai town" which is pretty much the asian food shops on Campbell St directly opposite the Campbell St Theater in Sydney (not far from China town/Central).. Reckon you could probably get it from most Asian grocers though... If you are having trouble finding it just use normal soy sauce. The real key to making anything smoked taste really good is brown sugar. More is better than less I reckon. Cheers mate Andy
  10. Great report and good to hear the kingies are still around up there.. Brave man putting your fingers in that gob I would have snipped him off! Great shot of the eye you must have some neat camera gear. Ahhh not fishing today is killing me I seriously dont think I am going to be able to make it from Monday to Friday ........
  11. hey Jewgaffer you are right about the oysters being too good for guests - best to make double what you think you will need coz they always get destroyed from smoker - table.. hot oysters right off the smoking rack is what dreams are made of! the peach woodchips actually smell like peach when you mix a little water through them - maybe the woodchip rissoles could become mainstream?!
  12. hey raiders, Bit bored this arvo after fishing cancelled today due to a sick 3yo... Going through some of my pics and I found these taken back in September. Smoked Oysters. Buy 2-3 dozen large pacific oysters (larger the better as they shrink when smoked) brown sugar thai fermented sauce cooking salt I take all the oysters out of the shells and put them in a plastic tub with lots of brown sugar, salt and a couple tablespoons of the fermented sauce. Dont have to leave it in there too long maybe half an hour just to get some flavour in. Then dampen your woodchips and get the smoker ready. Sprinkle woodchips through the bottom of the smoker and get your flame underneath. Oysters laid out on racks and 20 minutes later you have a very tasty entree to serve your guests! Enjoy! Andy
  13. thats awesome - well done on a great day on the water! nothing more satisfying than putting the boys onto a fish!!
  14. Sounds like quite a few fish - well done fellas!!! The colours in those Snapper are awesome!
  15. Awesome fish mate! Must be good to get back into Sydney fishing after a trip like that haha!!
  16. Like the look of those pontoons - and nice fish!
  17. Nice work Slink I am scared to pick up a fly rod for fear of the petrol it would pour on the fishing tackle addiction that I am already struggling to deal with! At this stage ignorance is bliss... Impressive considering the wind and the lack of success of those around you ;-) Nice one mate Andy
  18. Well done mate thats a great little session! Hoping we can get out to terrigal tomorrow but if not will be working pittwater and hope to have a day like yours!
  19. Haha seeing that picture brings back memories - down at Currarong a few years ago and a mate was washing his fingers in a rockpool (they were covered in pilchards as he had just baited his hook) and suddenly lets out this almighty scream (just like a girl in a horror movie haha) .... one of these eels had bitten his finger to the bone! When we dangled a pillie in there x3 evil little heads came out and savaged it! The best bit by far was the scream though hahaha still makes me smile today :D :D It was a nasty cut and we were worried about infection but he healed up ok after some TLC from the girls We did take one for the table but by the time we got home it stank and no-one wanted to eat it. Horrible creatures I reckon best to leave them be!
  20. Nice pics Warnie - I remember a similar encounter near Seal rocks.. the baby was practically trying to scratch its back on the hull while the mother sat submerged a few meters off ... a bit of a worry as the mothers can be quite protective.. We werent carrying 100kg of burley but still wouldnt want to be in the water so far from land!
  21. Nice work finding the fish and getting into them. Did you lose many jigs to jackets?
  22. mate I wouldnt have thought you need to go as far as broughton (Think its around 20km from memory) - there is good fishing on the islands just out of the heads (watch the marine park) - the washy areas are good for spinning metals or floating baits down the walls for snapper. Like Greg says I have seen some pretty horrible weather and had some very slow runs back from Broughton once that Southerly picks up and we are in a 24 foot boat... turns into a bit of a washing machine in the shallow water with waves rebounding off the islands. wouldnt want to be in it in a 5m quinny.
