    Clovelly

Sure was flattie, I have a GoPro which I take with me snorkeling and scuba diving. I'm often at Clovelly and this fish stood out because on most days it is the same old fish. I was at Gordons bay yesterday though and I saw a whole school of these things. However, this time thanks to Jewhunter I knew what they were !

Thanks Jewhunter, I've never seen it in the waters before.

    Clovelly

Came across this little guy at clovelly beach, seemed quite unusual.
  4. nicely done, you may have seen me and my girl. We were down there yesterday fishing off the pier!
  5. As the title says, it was my first time out on a boat fishing. My girlfriend bought us two spots on a fishing charter that was touring port hacking, I managed to get myself a Maori Wrasse & another silvery looking thing, the name eludes me right now. Woops! Also while trolling from spot to spot a Kingfish & Bonito were hooked. Woulda been great to get a pic and claim it ! While I was stoked at getting the two fish, it didn't seem like I did anything other than drop a hook into the ocean and wait for a bite. The captain just took us to where the fish were and we all went at it.
  6. Came across this post on a GoPro forum while I was trying to unravel the mysteries of my terrible battery!

One step ahead of you mate, I hopped out of the bay and dried myself off as best I could, took the battery out and back in and still no dice. Once i got home and plugged it into the computer it was completely drained. (I was just pleased that the hero3 turned on) Perhaps i have a faulty battery.
  8. Could you PM me as well mrs swordie? I ordered my hero3 batterypack online and now they've told me that theyre out of stocks so they have to wait for new ones to come in. Gah!! I reckon I'll be waiting at least 5 weeks before it gets here
  9. Congratulations mate, but can you post up a clearer picture of the fish? It is hard to see what is bigger, the kingfish or that massive grin on your face (jokes) Keep up the good work

Nah mate, the wifi was off. I ran a test after reading this thread and left my gopro recording. I do however use the setting which takes photos in intervals while recording so perhaps that uses a little more power too. When I woke up the video was 45minutes long. Curious to know whether the quality/frame rate etc will affect the battery usage because when I'm diving I'm going to be using the wifi unless I just use a wrist strap rather than have it mounted.

I'm using iMovie to edit mine at the moment and I'm finding it very simple and straight forward to use, on Windows I'd previously use Sony Vegas. The battery life you are getting is amazing for recording non stop. I don't think mine has gone 90mins + Also I've been finding something is draining the battery, the other day I had it charged to full and then I unplugged it. To my surprise when I took it in the water for a snorkel, the damn thing wouldn't turn on! So somehow in the process of sitting on my table, the battery got nuked down to zero
  12. I tried two full sessions of soft plastic fishing and came up empty, but I did get a lot of bites! Just no hooks. I'm finding it rather difficult to jig my line with the rod I'm using but I'm going to try it more because I'd rather not shell out for some more gear immediately. I bought a little plastic thing the other day so I'm going to try that
  13. Thanks LungFai. That's cleared things up a little for me Today I spent a few hours working some plastic lures, lots of bites and no catches. Back to the drawing board
  14. Thanks, and yeah not joking. Still have loads to learn and it's been a fun journey so far.
  15. Now that sounds like fun. I went down to the wharf this morning and caught nothing but three tiny bream, then the scorching sun popped out from behind the clouds and I scurried off home to hide inside. I told the guy who helped me choose the rod, that I wanted to go rock fishing, and when I said I wanted to do pier fishing as well he said that I could use that set up as well. I'm really keen to try what you suggested.
  16. Used my brand new rod I bought over Christmas. It's a Mojiko 2.7m, 8-12kg line rod. I still don't know what is what when it comes to equipment, so I just asked the guy at the store and he mouthed of all this technical sounding stuff. I just smiled and nodded as he pointed me in the direction of the sales. I caught the mullet using raw prawns, and on rather large octopus hooks. I bought the hooks because they were bigger and bigger is better right? then when I got home I discovered they were actually octopus hooks!! But I've still caught a few fish with them so I am happy
  17. love the second picture. Great post and nice job with the catches
  18. love it!! I had a look at the links at the top to try to get some info on the tides and moon position, but it just linked to another site. I didn't actually see the link marked 'articles', going to print some of it off and put it in my evernote to get some great reading material for the next year or so
  19. 80kg, 2meters?? Keep at it mate
  20. Whiting. My favorite fish (so far), well done mate. Hopefully I'll be posting some whiting catches soon
  21. Quick responses there, safe to say I caught myself a mullet. My girlfriend measured it and it was at or very close to 30cm, it became dinner for us last night but it wasn't very tasty. I'm keen to fish using live bait though, I'll have to look into that. Thanks again everyone
  22. Your name: Phil Your Location: Randwick, Eastern Suburbs Sydney. Fishing technique: Standard bait-fishing. Availability: Very flexible with the exception of Thursdays. Preferred location: N/A Provide your own gear? Yes Provide your own boat? No ---------------------------------- My girlfriend and I are looking to meet some other fisherfolk, hopefully some that wouldn't mind showing us a technique or two. More than happy to chip in for bait/fuel/etc, throw some beers and some pleasant conversation in as well. We mainly fish around the eastern suburbs but we have a car and are happy to drive.
  23. I've been trying to get into plastics but I have absolutely no luck with them. There is mention of techniques... is it safe to assume the cast and wait approach I use with bait isn't what you are supposed to do?
