  1. I'm currently sitting in my car while watching other blackies fishos (including @stapo) standing under cover. The storm has popped up after a morning of calm but rainy weather. The wind is strong so it is game over. One hour of fishing for me and there I'm making a report for last weekend...

Anyway, with blackies season beginning I have joined The Entrance Crew by the wall.

Saturday, I got there at around 11:15 and been told I was two hours late and the fish had just stopped bitting... [emoji33]

Anyway, I stayed and took my chance and it was slow but by 5pm I caught 7 nice fish and Tim gave me two.f077b3844e67461d762db19baf5eb08e.jpg

Back home I tried some blackfish sashimi and it was good:

Additionally my wife prepared some steamed one3826135fb1c58ea3b28a11fba442fcde.jpg

Sunday morning, with my mate Dom we got there at 7am, not wanting to miss the fun like yesterday. Steve and Tim were catching fish after fish while Dom and I were there still wondering what was wrong with us... Then master Steve came and taught us the art of baiting the weed on the hook and that made a whole world of difference. I finally started to have some downs.

After casting close and far, left and right I started to see where they were and also started to get some good bites. Norm arrived a bit later and also encountered few problems. Then I lost my float due to line twist with my Alvey blackies side cast reel. I love alvey reels but line twist is a pain. I will make my own SpinDoctor twin removal sinkers... I recover the float luckily, and another fisho came and said it was his float he lost earlier [emoji15] yeah right and his float must have had swam against the current... Anyway... I resumed fishing.

At around 1 or 2pm we called it a day. Dom caught one blackfish, he is starting with these picky fish and still has a lot of experience to get. I managed to get 8. Steve gave us 3, Marvin gave us 3.

I kept 5 and gave Dom the rest so he can share them with his folks.

I think tomorrow will be bad too... Oh well...

  2. Forget it Joe. There's too much water for prawning. Too deep. Maybe next weekend.

    +1

Not worth it with that much water. Went yesterday and did fish instead. Had a look in few buckets and the most I saw at midnight was 15 prawns...

  3. Well at least you got something Huy. I went home and watched the cricket in comfort ha.

I've never seen so many gizmos in your prawning float. Little pliers and landing nets they all had a place. But you forgot your bait and SOCKS.

Don't forget to wash them. Lol

    See ya next week.

  4. I arrived yesterday at 8.15pm and met the Stapon and Papafish at the steps. What a chock when I saw the level of water! And the water was so murky. The current was confusing, it was running in AND out at the same time! Due to the tide and also the excess of fresh water.

It did not started well for me. My plan was to fish a bit before the actual run out time. But I forgot my bait at home. Then I could not find my socks (for the wader), so I stole Steve's and went in the water. And Papafish gave me a bit of frozen prawns he just bought.

Papafish and I started walking along the wall trying to find a shallow path that leads to the center of the lake. After a while we separated, papafish went along the shore and I continued to the middle where I know there is a deep hole and produces at night.

As I progressed I discovered it was a but tricky to get out there as some parts are deeper and on top of my 1.60m I could go under if not careful. So I used my handheld gps and loaded a track I created before and which I know is shallow. Then got to the hole and started fishing with the water a bit above the waist.

First cast behind the hole on the shallows gave me an undersize whiting. Fourth cast into the hole this time and I hooked up with something decent. The way it slowly but heavily pulled told me it was a flathead and I was right. Then more undersize whitings were caught and released until I got a second smaller flatty.

A bit of water got into my wader making it very uncomfortable. After a while I also started to get cold so decided to call it a night. I will prawn next week and hopefully the water will be cleaner.

At the steps I usually clean my fish on one of the rocks but the water was too high so my tried doing it on the floating prawning platform and it was great.

  5. My favorite bait for yakkas is minced beef. It does not stay long but you catch yakkas quick so it does bot matter. Also as the fish picks the bait it also acts as burley. You can mix with flour to make it sticky and stay better on the hook.

Best is a handline with a swivel that is enough weight so no need for sinker. Or I would use a small rod with a very light line and a splitshot.

  6. Nice catch! I saw some squadron of big whiting last week.

Might go tonight for some whitings. Have some frozen prawns left and would bring live compost worms (red wigglers).

  7. I'd say Stealth are top choice for offshore, they are very fast and easy to paddle even on rough water. But if like me you have two left hands and often fish near oyster beds then plastic is better I think. I would love to try the Kraken as I see it as great fishing yak but not being a big guy I bought a RTM Tempo as it is very light at 26kg
