  1. So we have decided to go to Cowan Creek to chase hairtail this evening. Originally my mate was to meet me at cottage point and we would paddle/pedal to various bays between there and Jerusalem bay. But plan changed because my family wanted to come and enjoy the sunday arvo with me. So we headed to Apple Tree bay instead. Arrived at 2pm I tried to catch those big mullets but they did not want to touch the bread. Then I tried to see if bream would want some pillies but no sign of them. Then I saw two strange fish on the bottom and after few minutes I worked out they were cuttlefish. Took the jig and one hooked up but managed to spit out the lure. Then my mate arrived around 5pm so we headed not really knowing where we were going as none of us did our homework for that part of the creek. So we used the sounder to try find some bait fish but nothing, we tried three bays, burleyed the area, dropped our pillies and garfish but nothing. After 2 hours we decided to head back. At the ramp a boat also came back and reported donut as well. Maybe we were too early as the high tide was at 9:40pm. Maybe its not cold enough, maybe its the end of the season... Maybe we should come back again and get better prepared. Anyway it was a lovely relaxing arvo with the family and a great evening on the water with a mate. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. With inflatable yaks you get the above plus spend 20 mins to inflate with an electric pump. Better buy a cheap yak (chinese) 2.7m for around $350 or the one described above. As for the roof rack there are soft roof racks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Maybe not the answer you were looking for but have you considered vinyl planks? At our place we have removed all the old carpet and replaced with vinyl planks. They look good and are easier to keep clean and are quite durable depending on the brand. If memory serves they costs from $35 to $75 per square meter, but you need to do your homework and find a good provider. As for the installation it's easy, they come in planks, you apply some never drying glue on the floor and put the plank on it. Some planks have rubber with wave patterns underneath so on tile floor they might be enough without glue. The planks that have more texture (as opposed to ones that are more flat/glossy are warmer to the feet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Nice guys. Do you think it would be a challenge fishing the Rip Bridge from a kayak? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  9. Cheers buddy You've read my mind with the hatch and fish bag :-D. Problem is with the cost of the pieces and bits from our hardware shops I already reach budget limit. So I was thinking of buying those cheap Aldi cooler bag, dismantle them and hand sew them back into a bigger bag that will go in the hull thru the hatch. Hahaha re your scattered fish. I did think of that but seeing that when I put my stuff in the hull they end up anywhere in the yak I thought "hmmm fish bag!". Another idea although more difficult to make is a built-in custom esky. Would need to be built straight from inside of the yak from the front hatch then with some kind of extension tube that will go to the seat hatch allowing to slide the fish into the built-in esky... Madness huh? For the bait tank you could replace it with a large PVC tube about 1m long and drill holes in it. Put your livies inside and suspend the tube in the water. That might not work in all situations though as would slow down the yak. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Thanks for the tip buddy. I already exchanged the sand anchor for a small Cooper Anchor and using a 2.5mm braided line. I also added a homemade anchor trolley. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Evening all. Just finish modifying my Tempo kayak. Here is how the final result looks like: The milk crate: I just re-used my existing yak milk crate but cut a hole in the front wall so I can access the storage place under the esky. This is where I would put the anchor and keeper net. Attached to its back a PVC tube where I can slide in the light and red flag. One PVC tube in each flushed rod holder to elevate the reels off the water level. Adding a 10" hatch near the seat so I can access the hull content or slide in a fish. Some pool noodle to help with floatation if the yak ever drinks water too much. Anchor's anchor :-D The console: I got inspired by the Kontiki aka Poor man kayak. My previous console was good but was sometimes annoying as it blocks my feet: So I built a new one off a plastic toolbox sitting on a piece of styrofoam to level it up. It is kept in place by one chock cord on each side. The transducer goes to the left. At the front some thin chock cord in zigzag allows placement of sunglasses or can of redbull (gives you fins) :-D The PVC that holds the transducer goes to the back of the toolbox held in place with saddles and terminate with a lever on the right allowing lifting the transducer off the water when needed. The battery and tackle goes inside. Maybe one day I'll put the battery in the hull, remove the tackle and lay some styrofoam planks inside to turn the toolbox into a mini esky for keeping the fish. 13. Cool thanks guys. I'll let the paint get a bit older and see how it goes and then decide Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Hi guys. Thanks for the replies. I'm not looking to repaint it. Also from what I see under the peeled off paint, it seems that the yak has not been sanded off before painting. So all I want is get rid of the existing paint (when it will look messy with too many peeled off paint areas) and leave the natural kayak color: The natural yellow/orange is more visible and that's what I want. I prefer to be visible to other vessels that invisible to both fish and crazy boat drivers. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Hi all I just sold my old El Cheapo 2.7m kayak and bought a second hand RTM Kayak Tempo (aka Scupper Pro) for $300. From all the readings it seems to be an excellent kayak and from my first tests it seems to really is, so I'm really happy with it. Now the previous owner did a great paint job on it converting the orange/yellow original color to a green/black camouflage one. He used acrylic paint. Since it has been done a while ago the paint has started to peel off revealing the real color underneath. So sooner or later I will need to do something to remove the paint off. Having never done it before I was wondering what is the safest and effective solution to remove acrylic paint from the yak without damaging the plastic. At home I currently have some methylated spirit and mineral turpentine. Are they OK? Thank you Huy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Great catch guys. As for the blackies at the entrance wall, you need to be really patient. Was there couple of weeks ago and caught a lot but either I was fishing from midday till sunset snd they would only really start to bite later arvo. Or they would only bite at one specific spot along the wall where there must be something under the water keeping them around. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. There are some fish bags especially made for kayaks. They mounts to the front of the yak and are made of insulated material so you can put ice in there and keep your catch for longer Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Thanks for the advice Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Whatever they are apparently they are good eating as my wife just sent me a SMS saying they are delicious deep fried Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Anyone has an idea of what fish this is? Caught some as bycatch to yakkas initially thinking they were little herrings (was dark and brought no light). Are they good for anything? Thanks Huy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. It’s like when you go rock fishing and stay a bit back because the waves are a bit big and some guy arrive and settled right in front of you between you and the ledge and start casting without looking and cross your line... I sometimes want to have an anti-burley to throw in the water and move to another spot... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I have one of the cheap ones. Great for estuary. They are very stable and even without rudder it’s kinda ok to paddle with. I can also stand on it while fishing top surface lure for bream. Took it to Terrigal once and went a bit out, was small swell so all good. When you have yours try to practice re-entry in case you capsize, not that difficult but if you manage to get back on it a few times then you’ll be more confident. Also sit on the yak and tilt your body to the side until you capsize this is to learn when your yak will let you down. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  24. I'm from NC have fished there when was a teenager. But then moved to Europe for 16 years and now live in Aussie. I only fish NC again last christmas after nearly 20 years. Fishing spots have changed a bit but you still catch good fish in Noumea. In the pic below is a variety of Trevally (Golden or Brassy not really sure). It was caught in the Marina of Port Moselle (at the back of the market with blue roof). I casted a gulp soft plastic (prawn) just 3 meters in front of me a it was swallowed by the fish. If you go there couple of hours before sunset at some point you will see a school of trevallies chasing bait fish and come up close to you. I've never fished outside of Noumea though. 25. The FG knot is an awesome one but so much of a pain to make out there. For braid to leader I prefer the Improved Albright knot that although is bigger than the FG it is much smaller than the double UNI. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
